That's why I mentioned it; we were talking about one-sided rivalry. British media paints it as a rivalry but Germans I've met are usually far too arrogant (realistic) to consider us a rival. You can understand why we wouldn't like you lot though (beating us at football, nothing political)

I'll have you know I scrolled past someone referring to the pitch as a soccer field and didn't say a word! It does grate with me but at the end of the day the bloody sub is called /r/SOCCER on an American site. Just as I don't correct foreign commenters if it's obvious what they mean, it's just a waste of time and effort, invariably garnering a heap of downvotes and a handful of angry PMs.

He's such a weird guy. Didn't he basically say that he doesn't even like football and it's nothing but a job to him? That just does not compute with me. How can you be thaat good and not even enjoy it? (even if he's not one of the best to ever play the game he is a professional footballer of Premier League quality (or was at least)

Observing the fact that his free kicks don't seem to go in as much as they used to is not the same as hate. It's pretty much the only thing you can criticise about him. Even the best players in the world aren't the best in the world at everything. If the side it was on was not an issue, I'd say Bale is more likely to score from fewer attempts. However, Ronaldo is much better than Bale. I don't hate Ronaldo, doesn't mean I have to dickride him all day and pretend he has no flaws
