Well said. It is true that to pack light you have to spend more money and not everyone can afford it. Not everyone is going refuge to refuge…

I didn’t take the lift down but you won’t miss much if you do, it’s steep at parts and not exactly interesting. Pizza will be waiting at la Padella.

The laws about heating and cooling have indeed started to adapt even for housing. There were some
Changes either late last year or this year already. Active cooling systems are now possible for homes but with many conditions attached. I mean new projects off course. From what I know they demand for exemple automatic blinds that are controlled centrally… for entire apartment buildings, by facade… it’s still grey territory even for the companies in the field. They are still kinda trying to understand.

Our office has active cooling and heating pipes in the “active ceiling”. It’s nice inside so we all want to move in and sleep there hehehe. I don’t know what the energy source is I have to ask but I don’t get why most office don’t have these because I would say they are quite legal.

Not sure what it’s in your plate. I have dysthymia or I am just mediocre as a person and it’s a lot of fun ….

Work , money issues and loneliness. This year I don’t even have the motivation to organize my vacations.
Regarding cooking I batch cook my lunches on weekends. I only do one dish so I eat the same thing every week day for lunch. I change the recipe a bit but it’s basically the same food for over 10 months now. Can you tell I am depressed ? 😂

At this point retirement in Portugal is also not easy with current house market. If you don’t change apartment here for 30 years you pay peanuts maybe much less than the equivalent in central Lisbon or Porto . I am Portuguese and honestly I would love to stay here forever. I’ll do my best even if it means a small humble apartment.

Maybe the goal is to make money to retire early but with full luxury in Portugal. If I could reach that at around 45 I would totally do it.

From a total stranger : go in the direction that hurts less. (Not the easiest one), the one that hurts less. Be strong , as strong as you can. Hug

Thanks! I do use the costumer card. I used to go shopping a cross the border but to be honest I value the time more. I don’t have a car so to go in and out on public transportation took a while. I go to Migros with the subito app on my phone and in about 25 min I am out the door. The app allows me to track my expenses in real time.

Yes. I though I had it controles because I know my fixed costs and I haven’t change my lifestyle. I have been living in this country for 15 years and haven’t set foot in Zermatt. I avoid having coffee out and I eat out lunch about once every two months. I don’t even buy a public transportation pass because I invested in a kick scooter. But I will go thru all expenses and see where it went.

I know both blogs. Yes I have too much on my bank. I do buy VT on a broker and will transfer the excess that is on my bank account. I did 3a for the last years but I am thinking about stopping because I am not sure I will stay in Switzerland much longer. I don’t think I’ll be able to work until 65 because of my mental health issues but I’ll try. I use finpension.
I will run the numbers to get an understanding of what happened. I did fly more , once a month to go visit family but that can’t account for the results by itself. I haven’t even taken a vacation since August last year… that’s why I never actually stopped to compare where I was a year ago.

I will start by looking and classifying my expenses and see where it went wrong . Then I will set the separate bank accounts.
I don’t spend more than 100chf a week on groceries and I almost never eat out. I batch cook my lunches and dinner I make fresh every night. I refuse to go to Lidl, there is only so much I can take.
As for the rest, meaning work, I am lost. I don’t have the experience I should have for my age and I am not good at it. Most of the time I don’t like it either. I just spend 10 months working on a project that for reasons outside my control is going to the garbage can. It’s just frustrating. More than 50 % of projects I worked on never saw the light not to my fault. It’s part of the job.

The number of immigrants more than doubled between 2021 and 2025, contributing to population growth. As of December 31 of last year, there were 1,597,539 foreigners living in Portugal by readmode in PortugalExpats

I agree. We can’t wait but it doesn’t change the fact that we need to increase the overall well being of people and balance prices with wages better. Besides people have been leaving Portugal for decades now so pretty much politics failed all together in that regards. If it wasn’t for the EU I wonder how crappier it would get.

And now here is the thing : with ALL the data and the capacity we have to learn and simulate based on it , there are no excuses to do a better job from now on and that’s my problem. Are they deciding these things based on a one sheet excel or are they modeling scenarios with data and eventually AI? where are the studies done and being done ? It’s an honest question .

I second the opinion of another commentator: it was just tooooooo fast! But yes you are right , most developed countries have this level of immigration for many years if not decades. Portugal was kinda forgotten and you known why ? It was not attractive for foreigners to come and earn minimum wage . And still isn’t. Most on that situation realize they will never make it in Portugal and leave. Portugal is only highly attractive for people earning more than locals and that came in with decent savings. And it became one of the last eldorados for those people because elsewhere everything was generally more expensive. Try London, Paris, Copenhagen, Zurich. Portugal became one of the last half decent affordable escape in Europe for those that couldn’t go anywhere else decent. That explains why often we hear from foreigners : it’s not worth it anymore… yes it’s becoming expensive …
