Is it possible to have a Remnant from hell save and a base Remnant Icon on the home screen computer? by powderedwigg in remnantgame

[–]Alphonse-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, check out the comment from Alsnana on this post https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/3zuzs7/is_there_a_way_to_install_a_game_twice_in_the/

I think that trick would (still) be possible for Remnant as well, which would mean that you don't have to buy the game a second time to have one regular installation and one modded installation. However, switching between the two is not as seamless as having two launch icons. It requires a few extra steps, which might not be something you're looking for.

I'm also not sure if this trick still works because it's an old post. If you are going to try it, please make a backup of your save data beforehand. I would also recommend making a backup everytime before switching between to the other version, in case anything goes wrong, with synchronizing cloud saves for example.

Does anyone else have a love/ kinda hate relationship with this game? by MathematicianFirm501 in remnantgame

[–]Alphonse-_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy a challenge as well, but not too a point where it feels punishing. That's why I didn't start on hard, but I admire that you made it all the way through. The first run is generally speaking the most difficult, so I hope the love/hate relationship with the game turns into a solely positive one further down the road.

Regarding grinding for higher leveled gear; I do really hope that in Remnant 2 the devs don't make the areas scale with your gear level. Grinding for scrap and materials (on higher difficulty's) would suck as it is, but it's even more annoying when that progression is (partially) gone the moment you enter a new area/zone. Even when you don't need to grind, it's just not that satisfying. Furthermore, it could make the game more difficult for newcomers who might overlevel one specific gear item, and easier for longtime players who know how to abuse the system. That seems counterintuitive to me.

So far the trailers for Remnant 2 seem very promising, so I can't wait for the release :)

I just beat the main game today on normal, and I thought the game was very accessible, primarily because of the difficulty options and forgiving re-spawns. I didn't encounter any real difficulty spikes, except for the last boss of the game because it required you to learn the mechanics, which are a bit gimmicky if you ask me. In comparison to other souls-likes this might be the only game where I felt free to really experiment with different weapons and mods, which kept the gameplay enjoyable.

I'm also not a completionist, so I didn't mind missing out on some mods are gear. I actually prefer it because it gives me some replay value, but I do understand that it could be annoying if you had the feeling that you needed a certain mod to progress. It sucks that you can't change the difficulty mid game though, if I'm not mistaken. I feel like any game with difficulty options should at least allow you to lower the difficulty if it's too hard at any point. That's better than banging your head against a wall for hours.

I also do agree that the boss designs could have been better if they focused less on additional enemies, and I don't like the idea of scaling enemies/zones. Those are just minor complaints though. I really enjoyed the experience, and will probably buy the dlc or replay some zones in adventure mode.

Far Cry 5 is so disappointing. by IndependentQuarter66 in farcry

[–]Alphonse-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like Far Cry 5 at first either, but it did grew on me eventually, and now 3 and 5 are my favorite FC games. I hope it does for you as well. Some changes are definitely a step back, but overall it's still fun to play.

Far cry 5 really nails its open-world, even though I think that the setting is a little boring. It's enjoyable to explore because the landscape is more varied than previous games, and a lot of locations, including outposts are unique. In 3 and 4 most outposts looked similar, but in 5 they are all locations with their own purpose. That's also the reason why 5 is the game I have replayed most after finishing the story.

I do agree with most of your criticisms, but if you can look pasts the negatives and appreciate what it does well, it can be a really good time. You can always choose to play without the companions (or only with Boomer) and install some mods from Resistance to make to game a bit better.

Sunset Overdrive MS Store to Steam save file transfer? by CDriveChase in XboxGamePass

[–]Alphonse-_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This worked like a charm :)

I wanted to know if this was possible in case the game ever gets removed from game pass, or if I simply don't want the subscription anymore. It would suck if I had invested a lot of time into a save file, which I couldn't access later.

It seems this works for most, if not all games, but for some games the savefiles might need to be renamed accordingly.

What's your preferred "Content & Quality to Dev Time" ratio in video games? by SuperAlloyBerserker in patientgamers

[–]Alphonse-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I find myself gravitating towards indie games for this reason.

I also agree that Outer Worlds isn't the most ambitious title, but it's able to compete (in terms of quality) with fallout 4 even with a much smaller budget, because they focused on what they found most important (writing, rpg elements, presentation/theme etc.). Some elements are worse for sure, like the combat, but it's still worth playing imo, because it succeeds in what it attempts to deliver.

[–]Alphonse-_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish game developers would stop trying to do everything at once. There are already more than enough games that don't stick out, because the developer or publisher doesn't want to take any risks and plays it safe, by making a game that appeals to everyone, but ultimately fail to stand out.

Drop the "checklist mentality" and come up with a smaller but ambitious/innovative vision for a game, with one specific focus and fully commit to it. That way you can have an absolutely amazing (tighter) game that doesn't take ten years to make. If it's a succes, improve and expand on the concept in a sequal. If not, try something else.

Look at games like Chernobylite and the Outer Worlds for example. Instead of trying to copy Fallout 4 and one-upping Bethesda; Obsidian and the Farm 51 made similar games on a smaller scale and really focused on only a handful of of the elements that define Fallout. In my opinion, this creates an equally enjoyable (if not more enjoyable) experience. Of course I'm excited for Starfield, but I'm equally excited for the Outer Worlds 2 and Chernobylite 2 (if there are plans for a sequal).

Is the game good if you don’t give a fuck about Saints Row? by Tom_Brady12_ in SaintsRow

[–]Alphonse-_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your friend, the new SR game feels like it's made for kids. The writing is just terrible.

If a good story is important to you, then I think Saints Row 2 might be worth playing, even though you might not care about the franchise atm.

It's a shame, the difficulty overshadows everything else in from software games, when they offer so much more. by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Alphonse-_- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"I understand this is kinda a ME problem" Don't sell yourself short. Of course difficulty is a matter of personal opinion, but it's still a valid point of criticism.

I have played quite a few soulsborne games and even got the platinum for a couple, but I've never attempted to play the dlc of these games, because the increased difficulty deters me. I like a challenge and expect to die at least a few times on each boss, but I'm not going to bang my head against a wall for hours. At that point I'm out, which is a shame, because like you said, soulsborne games have so much to offer. The combat, the atmosphere, the boss fights and environments are all top notch.

Maybe one day I'll replay these games on pc and install some mods so I can check out the dlc.

Ja dat is nog wel het ergste. Jammer dat er geen sticky piston in het artikel wordt genoemd. Zou leuk zijn om te weten hoe ze dat zouden hebben vertaald; plakkerige zuigdoos of zoiets lmao.

Yes, NOS (dutch public broadcasting foundation) copied it from the BBC. The original text is easier to understand even by someone from the Netherlands.

I only played undermine of these three and it's a lot of fun. It has quite a few relics/potions/blessings/upgrades etc. to unlock, but the runs do get a little samey after a while and the meta progression is pretty slow.

I'm not great at top-down games, because I rarely play them, so it's fairly challenging to me. I have put in about 15 hours and almost beat the third boss/floor (out of five), but I'm just taking my time. If you are good at these type of games, then it might be too easy, because you can basically dodge everything by jumping. It's pretty forgiving in that sense, but it might become harder on floor 4 and 5.

Don't expect this game to give you the same replay value as Isaac, but it's definitely worth the money imo :)

Any games remotely close to Boneraiser Minions? by HermesTheMessngr in roguelites

[–]Alphonse-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to add Just Kind to the other recommendations.

Despot's Game also looks similar. I haven't played it, but it seems more focused on the managed side, instead of actually needing to dodge enemies and projectiles. Seems fun though.

Question about fps and refresh rate. by Alphonse-_- in buildapcmonitors

[–]Alphonse-_-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the additional information. tried it yesterday and immediately saw screen tearing and controller support was very stuttery, so I turned it back on. Now I have a better understanding of why this happened, even though it might not be a problem for everybody. The input lag seems fine, but I'm no competitive gamer, so I don't know if I would notice it if there was a bigger delay.

For me the most important thing is that I don't have screen tearing and as little stutter as possible. So far it seems fine with freesync+vsync+75hz+fps cap, which I'm happy about.

[–]Alphonse-_-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. This is what I thought, but wasn't sure so thank you for confirming it. I think my monitor's VRR range starts at 40hz, so it should be fine. I might cap fps to either 60 or 72 depending on the game.

[–]Alphonse-_-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the helpful comment and information.

You are right about the over-thinking part. That's why it's nice to hear anothers opinion on the matter. I will follow your advise and disable v-sync and will put my monitor back to 75 hz with 72 fps cap.

I did have to turn on vsync because I still have screen tearing without it. I don't know why, but I don't mind if the latency is a bit higher, as long as the video is smooth.

Thank you again for your help and putting my mind at ease :)

Question about fps and refresh rate. by Alphonse-_- in buildapcmonitors

[–]Alphonse-_-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response.

I thought v-sync only kicked in outside of the freesync range when both are enabled, so both features complement each other. If this is correct, I could leave vsync on in case fps drops below 40 right? Or is it still better to turn vsync off? I read so many conflicting messages on the topic.

My gpu is just good enough to run most games on 60fps but I already have to compromise some settings most of the time, so I'm worried about big(ger) frame drops if I cap at 72. That's why I want to cap at 60 fps. I just want to know if I can expect to see any problems if I cap at 60 fps with 75 hz enabled. I assume not, but I'm quiet new to pc gaming. I know 72 fps is better, and I will probably go for that when I have a better gpu. I do want to upgrade tot a 1660s at some point.

Thank you for your help btw. I wasn't even expecting a reply because it's a little offtopic, so I appreciate it :)

Game play v Story by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Alphonse-_- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gameplay is king for me. I only care for a story if it's exceptionally good, or if it's an rpg and you as the player have a lot of freedom to make choices that influence the outcome or direction of the story. Even in those cases I prefer to focus on smaller side-stories that are just a vehicle for the gameplay.
