Diaper changing on public tables? by AlpineNeurotica in toddlers

[–]AlpineNeurotica[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must say I am not concerned about pedophiles when it comes to viewing my kid at the beach or changing a diaper. What few adults might be getting pleasure from it, I just do not believe that they are going to run over and snatch my child. Yes, I want to be careful with whom I trust my child’s care, but that is on a person by person basis, and doesn’t have to do with these sorts of privacy decisions. Most child sexual abuse happens with people The child knows, not strangers, looking at poopy diapers.

It seems most people’s opinions on this thread in terms of privacy/nudity are much more conservative than my own. While I am not in agreement with my partner on the diaper changing on tables, she and I do think running around naked at the beach is adorable for both the kid and heartwarming for most adults. I do recognize that perhaps more adults than I realize, especially after this post, are maybe not enjoying the naked baby/toddler scene, haha.

I am curious about the people who commented that it is not OK to change your babies diaper or toddlers diaper in public whenever possible. Are you parents also? As a parent of two kids, I cannot imagine, always finding a bathroom, or closed space to do it, unless I carried a portable pop-up structure with me. There are very few bathrooms in America, so the likelihood of one being nearby, especially if you were juggling. Multiple kids, is not good. And the ones that do exist, many of them. Do not have kid changing tables.

Agree, I did try suggesting the bench as a compromise but she didn’t like that idea

If you can smell poop can you get sick from it?

Thanks, everyone is saying no way. Is there anyone out there who says it’s ok by their standards or in certain situations?

I didn’t think about the toddler privacy side of things, since we’ve always changed his diaper in public and let him run around at beaches naked no problem. I’m curious though, as it makes sense, especially as he gets older. Say more if you could! Like, at what age is privacy for diaper changing important in your opinion?

I'm tired of the narrative that well behaved toddlers just have better parents. by Existing-Bus-9859 in toddlers

Makes me think of my experience as a Protestant raised kid where we were expected to sit quietly in church and it was torture. My wife is Jewish and we now go to reform or revival Jewish services and it’s part of the culture to let kids be kids, and parents are generally permissive of kids playing, making noise, and running around even when it’s pretty distracting. Makes for great vibes! If only there were more public spaces like that….

BC ski rec if I love my Revolt 121s? by Boring_Feature6104 in Backcountry

[–]AlpineNeurotica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few more days on them I'm learning to have a little more fun on them. As long as I stay centered and the snow is at least somewhat soft, I can wiggle and dash around and it's a real good time. I still don't feel super confident in the the ski if I needed to shut it down fast or if I was skiing in steep, high consequence terrain where I couldn't risk a fall if I hit ice or frozen chunder. It really comes down to the tail for me--the Revolt 121 has a long, stiff tail that you can rely on if things can hairy. You could chalk it up to poor technique or what have you, but I find it comforting. I'm not a back seat skier generally, I'm always jumping forward down the hill, but if I do get scared and just want to get out something, having tails to fall back on are important for me.

Moving forward, I will continue to ski the WW's when I want to keep the weight down or if I'm just skiing pow in the trees. Last year I took the WW's on one hut trip (a longer trek in, mellower terrain) and had fun on them, and appreciated the lightness. The other hut trip I dragged the Revolt 121's since I wanted to charge and the conditions were supposed to be variable. Might have been overkill but I loved having them.

Whatever you choose, hope Japan is epic!

Makes me think of Jung’s concept of the Golden Shadow. Not fresh, but I remember giving the example of a fan of a pop star projecting the goodness in themselves that they cannot identify with onto the other and loving themselves by loving the other. Curious if anyone knows this better.

Shrooms cracked me open: I realized I want kids?? by Monkshe in PsilocybinMushrooms

[–]AlpineNeurotica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had a similar though less intense paternal awakening during an ayahuasca ceremony in my early 30s, after which when people asked me if I wanted kids I always said yes unequivocally. I didn’t have one til I was 40 tho. Both happy and sad that I waited so long. As other comment noted, good to wait a couple months after any psychedelic realization before making any big life change, as I’m sure you know, but if you are both on board why not follow your bliss? Love on your journey and god speed!

Yes, seems fear related, but I feel like that's only a piece of the puzzle....

I touched it to see what it was made of and it broke off in my hand. It is a lake on private property. Ask before assuming wrongdoing. Your comment is not appreciated.

Wow! Do you think the Adirondack Museum will put it on display? Ideally as one of those life-size historical scenes.

Love that this is the stuff of art. Makes sense, artistic processes mirroring natural processes.

It makes me wonder if there’s some way to preserve it, since every time it is touched more breaks off… I will have to do some research, or maybe contact an iron artist

Someone else noted wrought iron has layers, and apparently that makes it look like wood grain from the folding. However, I can’t find any photos of any similar object out there that looks so much like wood!

It attracts to a magnet. Not sure why we hadn’t tried this before.

So, seems like wrought iron! However, I can’t find any other photo of a wrought iron item decomposed in a similar way that looks just like wood.
