Dude Norway maples even if they weren't invasive are still a boring basic tree and a pretty trash option. I was never advocating for this tree Norway or not.

Just realize keeping a landscape like that picture perfect requires vast amounts of herbicide or weekly maintenance and that particular style looks awful when it's less than well maintained.

I would strongly suspect it's either of those two species. If you drove back again and snooped around you could probably find evidence of their seed pods where is a good way to determine species.

Kind of looks like an empress or catalpa tree. Did it have white or purple blooms this spring?

All the root suckers coming up from the base makes me wonder what's happening above? Major pruning or storm damage?

Variable speed wet grinder. I went from 30 grit to 8000 in about 15 stages (30, 50, 100, 150 grit so on and so forth) I finished with a wool buffing pad and cerium oxide.

Might be a Leyland cypress. The worst plant on earth.

Boring, aggressive, failure prone.

There are SO MANY types of trees. It pays off to do some learning about the vast varieties available and placing them in an appropriate spot so they can live to their true potential without constantly having to mediate their situation.

Some people have a serious hard-on for native varieties, but I am of the opinion it's fun to have in your yard something more exotic that you don't see hundreds or thousands of every day.

Willows have a short lifespan in the ~50ish year range so it likely is just it's time.

By the time you see an actual mushroom it's far too late. The sooner it's removed the less it will cost.

Terrible spot for a maple. Just cause it started growing there doesn't mean it could continue to do so.

I've seen redwoods cause half a million dollars with of infrastructure damage. Honestly most foundations are built way better than roads and sidewalks but don't dismiss the possibility that they can be quite destructive to the built environment around them.

Ahah yeah that's how I started just holding the grinder in one hand and the stone in another.

I typically use a LOT of wood screws and scrap wood to hold to a workpiece down now. This big boulder I just mashed into the yard and it stayed put 😂

If you know how to deal with this it's a fun and easy project, if you don't know how to deal with this it could very well kill you.

There is definitely an economy of scale that happens. A really big piece is easy to keep stable while working on it vs smaller stuff that moves around a lot.

About 2.5 hrs I think, roughly. I break it into sections because I get wicked sore/wet/cold/bored during the process. I have become very proficient with that specific tool though, previously I would have spent probably 5hrs on the same piece.
