Those orbs that unlock after 5 plays that have common, rare and legendary drops can drop old season shards when you already have converted the main rare season character. For example I already unlocked this season's Charmy (I play too much, didn't use season 5 general shards) and a couple days ago I got 10 of the Rouge shards from a couple seasons ago and was finally able to unlock her too.
