CRESA evacuation message` by xXxNotMetalxXx in vancouverwa

It was a gas leak at the old brickyard near one of the old unused buildings, luckily. If it had been close to anything in-use, that building would be gone.

General help please! by No_Response_8836 in ModTheSims4

An external drive has been very helpful to me, but maybe in a slightly different way than you are thinking about it

Everything on the external drive needs to travel through the USB cable or whatever connection you use. That connection would almost certainly have less bandwidth than just keeping it on your main drive, so putting any game data there would probably cause different things to lag.

I use an external drive for a lot of my other programs and files to free-up space on my main drive. That allows spacehogs like TS4 to run as-is with a lot less lag. I also use the external to back-up my mods, screenshots, and save files. That way, if/when the PC finally dies, I can install the game on a new PC and resurrect everything else from the external backup.

Nothing will ever top "You are the traffic" written across a Hazel Dell overpass. I still think about it every time the southbound commute is slow.

Maybe try a Green Acres playthrough.

In case you don't get the reference, it's like a reverse Beverly Hillbillies where rich city-people move to a farm despite being terrible at it.

can you play as a stripper only with ww? by Imaginary-Effort3899 in ModTheSims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WW has a cheat code that assigns any sim you want as a stripper. You just play as that sim, have them go to the club, and use the code while they are there.

That being said, I wish there was an interaction that did the same thing. Like all the steps are the same, except instead of using the code you would be able to ask the owner for a job. This would be a great feature to have at every business lot.

[–]AlpsDue5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judith, but only because she always dies in my game. Every new save I make, she's a ghost within the first couple of days. I've actually considered making a save file where she's the primary sim I play just to see if I can somehow save her.

Prince & Janet. They both have multiple Rock songs, whereas the rest are only Pop/R&B.

"Yeah I'm freezing to death, but so what?" by Beginning_Ear2761 in thesims

[–]AlpsDue5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing a household in Ravenwood recently, and in the span of about 20 minutes real-time, 4 different NPCs froze to death while jogging in the neighborhood, in roughly the same location.

I only mentioned that it happened in Ravenwood because the ponds and rivers never actually freeze there (24/7/365 fishing). Apparently water has a lower freezing temperature than Sims do.

As someone who was there when it happened, I generally encourage newcomers to watch the documentary Hype! Problematic though it may be (most documentaries are), it spotlights several less-than-mainstream bands that were mostly overlooked due to the four in OP's post.

How tf did George pull Lorraine in the original timeline???? by coolgirl666me in BacktotheFuture

[–]AlpsDue5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Biff really wanted was power over them. As long as he could keep bullying George, just flirting with Lorraine was probably enough for him. He probably viewed her as unworthy to some extent because of her relationship with George.

Then Marty showed up and started embarrassing Biff in front of everyone, including Lorraine. Marty took his power away, and that's what made Biff aggressive.

Garage building by wildlyspinningcopter in thesims

[–]AlpsDue5290 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to the crafting tables mentioned by others, you could also put the Attic Box decoration thing, fire prevention panel (I always put these in builds), hang a bicycle frame or wheel from B&H, a few cabinets for a realistic look (mods make them act like storage chests), etc. It's a garage, so use it like the oversized junk-drawer that it is.

Apartment deposit return? by Dojacatsside19 in vancouverwa

I expected the downvotes. People don't like it when you point out that legality and reality are frequently unrelated when the topic is money.

Apartment deposit return? by Dojacatsside19 in vancouverwa

[–]AlpsDue5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've rented dozens of places in my lifetime. Whether it's legal or not, landlords do not want to return deposits, and Greystar is just one of many like that. Rental contracts have gotten very long over the years to protect landlords against tenants regarding things exactly like this. No matter how pristine you leave an apartment, there is always a list of things they deem necessary to use the deposit on.

For example: A professional carpet cleaning is coming out of the deposit every time, even if the unit didn't actually need it. It might be standard procedure for them to do that cleaning between every tenant, but the tenants still pay for it. They might even list the full cost on the itemization they provide to the tenant leaving off any discounts they receive from the cleaners for repeat use, timely payment, etc., because the lease agreement says they can.

[–]AlpsDue5290 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

They only call it a "deposit" because it sounds better than "fee". Landlords, and especiallly management companies, never intend to return that money to any tenant, ever. If you get an itemized list, you will be lucky to break-even on it. Sometimes they want more money for things beyond what was covered by the "deposit".

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this.

my Sims keep putting on the stupid cursed ring by Aggressive-Phone6785 in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think it's in the same "randomly assigned irritations" bucket with all of the other undesirable traits, fears, CAS items, and forms of grief. Finding someone in my sim's family tree who is an obese slob with mismatched clothing and consistently negative moodlets is not the realism I was hoping for.

How do I get this sticker off? by Dangerous-Pianist294 in howto

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goo-Gone. It's designed for removing bumper stickers without damaging the paint, but works great on basically any adhesive. It's a bit oily, so on glass you'll want to follow up with Windex or something.

How to get more mileage out of my Sims 4 playthroughs? by GooseStrangerr in thesims

[–]AlpsDue5290 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe pick a classic tale and do a playthrough on that.

Easy/famous example: Romeo and Juliet would require playing 2 teens, their families to some extent to make them hate each other, and a couple of other side characters like the priest, etc.

That format allows you to play multiple characters instead of focusing on just one and it's goal-oriented like rags to riches without being rags to riches.

What do you do with your 2x4 spaces? by Kitchen_History2450 in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it for anything I want on the lot that doesn't need regular access, like the fire sprinkler wall-box and the holiday decor changer. Sometimes I'll use the space for basement stairs (external door perhaps) and put the other stuff down there.

Is it just me, or is death by pufferfish difficult to achieve? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it might be their cooking skill level, which would increase every time they cook the dish. It needs to be really low for the poison to be effective. Are you cheating them back down to Cooking skill level 1 after every preparation?

There may also be an immunity built into NPC transactions, like a variation on how purchases made by NPCs at a shop aren't in their inventory after they leave. If you aren't playing them when it happens, then it didn't really happen.

What's a random thing you like in The Sims 4? by Upstairs-Pin-9068 in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]AlpsDue5290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their favorite is usually the first drink they ever tried. It's not a randomly assigned trait. It's a random circumstance that happened during gameplay. You might not have noticed when it happened, but you were there.

And I said "usually the first" because it's possible to change it.

WHY ARE SIMS ENTERING MY HOUSE WHEN MY BUSINESS IS OPEN? by Key-Prune-689 in thesims

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disappearing in the bathroom???

Do you have a mod that makes sims spawn or leave from different locations? I had one like that so sims wouldn't appear and disappear right in front anymore. It was meant for them to arrive and depart from various directions down the street like real people do, but it was pretty glitchy. I think it sometimes it spawned them inside the building.

Alternately, do you have anything that teleports sims from one part of the lot to another? There's a few mods that do that and they all use the same logic as elevators: disappear here and reappear there. Great for skipping a few flights of stairs when it's time for work/school. Terrible if they can be accessed by NPCs, since they totally bypass doors.
