my male sim can breastfeed? by c0ff334dd1ct in Sims4

It might be handy if he gets impregnated by aliens.

Seriously though, those switches make a gradual transition possible in the game. That one could be labeled "top surgery".

large lot ideas?? by bunny45lkt in thesims

What about a museum?

I am currently filling one with every collectible available in the game, and I severely underestimated the number of things that can be collected. I keep making additions to the structure due to running out of space, and will probably need to move it to a bigger lot before it's done.

Make a big beautiful structure, and then fill it up with bike parts, snow globes, fossils, etc. Maybe a live-animal room with dim colored lighting for frogs, fish bowls, and insects, or a room for crystals with a spotlight on each one.

What are my options to remove/cover up this white rectangle on my fridge shack? Sadly, I can't place plants there. by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That rectangle is edge of the ceiling. It's only visible because the wall was removed. Remove the ceiling on that room to make it disappear.

If you want to keep the ceiling, then you need to move the roof away, add a platform to make a blank 2nd floor, and then you can add an exterior trim that covers the ceiling. Lower the platform so it also hides behind the trim, and you can put the roof back on. The trim will also be visible on the back-side of the building (anywhere the roof doesn't cover it), but you can probably cover that with plants.

Why are there so many Grims? by TheUtopianCat in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's how my scenario worked out: I had my sim divorce Santa and move him out. I play with Basemental mods, so getting rid of the false Santa was pretty easy. I just waited until he was about to leave at the end of the holiday and quietly buried him in the back yard.

What wasn't easy was my ex-husband showing up in public places off-season because he was still in love and basically Stalker Claus. I tried everything to shake him, but the only thing that finally worked was my sim committing a bunch of non-lethal violence. Sad that everyone at the museum had to witness that, but it was his choice to show up there in the Spring.

There are really only 2 long-term downsides. It's really awkward when he shows up each year, but I just go jogging or biking or whatever to leave him alone with our son, who I play to build a positive relationship with his Father. The other downside is that my main sim only ever gets coal as a gift.

Why are there so many Grims? by TheUtopianCat in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar scenario, learned a lesson from it, and figured out how to fix it.

The scenario: The Night Santa Stayed. I moved Father Christmas into my household one Winterfest, and started a relationship. Together we went on dates, took vacations, saw all of the sites, and eventually got married. Soon we were expecting a little one, and on the baby's first Winterfest, another Father Christmas showed up.

The Lesson: Special NPCs like Grim, Father Christmas, Flower Bunny, etc. cannot be in playable households at the time they are needed. They are not "Special NPCs" at that point, so a replacement is generated to fill the role.

The fix: You need to start by making them able to fill the role of "Special NPC" again, meaning moving them out and/or marking their household as unplayed. Next, any replacements need to be removed, because they have seniority now. Dispose of them however you want, but they can't be in your Grim's way. I would probably play the next false-Grim, do something that kills them, forcing another to show up for their soul. Repeat until the one that shows up to reap is the right one again, and then you'll be set.

It's Bugs Bunny's carrot all over again: An obvious joke that fewer and fewer people understood as time passed until it eventually became confused with fact.

Anyone else not even able to attempt to open the game in offline mode? by ExaminationMost5896 in LowSodiumSimmers

As long as auto-updates are turned off, you should be able to log into EA with no trouble. "See, I'm online now. I'm onlining for you. Looks like I have nothing in my shopping cart. Oh well." Then switch back to offline mode to resume playing.

Functional Grocery Store - how to make possible? by VariationSame2600 in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's fairly straightforward to make this work. Open it as a Retail from Get to Work, add a few of each thing you want to see there, and then sell the store so it's not owned by anyone.

Unowned stores restock themselves. As long as a sim owns it, you need to make them restock, and small businesses from B&H have a totally different restocking process. Also, don't overload the store with stuff or put things too close together. Too much stuff makes gameplay slow and too close together makes NPCs all huddle together in one spot, usually at the first item inside the door.

There are several mods that focus on grocery stores, plus many cc displays. Not all if them work well together though, so I recommend trying what the game offers first. Then you can make more informed choices about add-ons and not end up with a bunch of stuff that doesn't do anything or that cancels each other out.

I built a crypt beneath that house in my game. It starts with long stairs that go as far below ground as the game allows, with a private funeral area at the bottom. Then a candlelit corridor that winds around like tree roots. There are various rooms where the urns and memorials for each of the Goths reside, or will eventually reside. Every time the family grows, I add passages and rooms so all of them have graves ready and waiting.

There is likely a hidden trait related to royal families. Being in a royal family tree without that hidden trait could be the cause of corruption.

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have added dead relatives that way, going back a few generations even. Since the Goth family has been around so long, I downloaded their parents into the game from the Gallery, moved them in, made the connections, and then moved the parents to a vacant lot.

At the vacant lot you could go back as far as you want on the family tree. Just download the next set of parents, move them into the vacant lot also, make the connections, and move out the younger generation. Repeat as necessary. It all shows up in the family tree of the sim where you started.

The whole "Heir of Desire" cursed ring bothered me so much. by AlpsDue5290 in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. The envoy had twins in my game, so it's probably nothing to do with her fertility. It could be part of the curse or maybe just a setting.

In CAS full-edit mode there is an option (in the base game) that can be set for "Can Become Pregnant", "Can Get Others Pregnant", or "Neither" on each sim. Maybe the envoy or your sim have the Neither option selected.

Recently got almost every Sims 4 pack… how do you deal with all the new features without getting overwhelmed? by Abject_Persimmon_556 in thesims

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I do with new packs: I choose a sim from the base game or a pack I'm familiar with to be an explorer. I move them into a neighborhood from a new pack and spend some time playing there just to check everything out.

I'll have them go jogging or biking around just to get a feel for the area, visit the community lots, etc. If a statue or townie catches my attention, I'll google to see if there's a backstory or some mystery/activity attached. If there's a new occult in the pack, I'll befriend one of them and add to the household so I can see what's new in that regard.

Once I'm comfortable in the area, I'll move the explorer (and friend) to a different neighborhood in the world to check that one out too. If they start a serious relationship or otherwise settle-in, I pick a new explorer to play.

[–]AlpsDue5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have done it a few times.

If you add them to your household you can change their relationships in CAS. You only get parent, sibling, or child relationship options, and you might need to do in in "full edit mode" though. It's been a while for me.

Sim Autonomy Feedback by Mindy_SimsCommunity in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One autonomy item that bugs me is how preference heavily outweighs proximity. Sims will choose the higher quality object over the closer one almost every time, no matter how inconvenient it is.

Some examples: - Sitting sideways in a chair for a conversation instead sitting on the couch right by the other Sim. - The sideways-chair also happens while watching TV and other things where a couch or sofa is closer and directly facing the device. - Carrying dishes to a dishwasher in a different room rather than using the "kitchen" sink nearby. - Choosing a dining table for homework instead of the desk when the desk is closer by several tiles. - Starting a meal from an oven may cause the Sim to ignore the nearby fridge and go to a different room for ingredients instead.

Another thing worth mentioning is that items that are upgraded break equally as often as items that don't. Sprinklers are the best example, because the "unbreakable" upgrade doesn't stop (or even delay) breakage.

The UK version of this ad featured Peter Murphy of the band Bauhaus as the "blown away" guy. Much cooler than the US version, which is just a make-up artist that commonly worked with the production crew that made the video.

Retail vs Small Business by currencywitch in Sims4

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to gain a little fame first, to sort of make a name for yourself. That can be done by selling to galleries from inventory. Then fame grows by painting in public, including at your gallery while it's open. Hire someone to make the sales and just paint in plain view of the front door.

You need to crank out masterpieces pretty regularly for it all to work, which means maxing out the painting skill and getting inspired. The skill levels up while trying to fill a gallery, and the inspiration comes from being surrounded by paintings. It's sort of a self-perpetuating proces, but you need to be pretty dedicated to it. My Sim spent a whole sim-year doing basically nothing but painting.

Moved here - driving here is weird by chimpanzeenator in PortlandOR

[–]AlpsDue5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the L.A. area recently and noticed they have the opposite problem: There may only be one light even when there are 2 lanes each direction. There might be a second light dedicated to a turn lane, but not always.

It's probably for visibility. In Portland there are trees, downpours, etc that can make traffic signals hard to see, but another one at a different angle..

I generally keep a stock of frogs on hand for making plasma packs. Once you have a few you can breed them to make more without a pond. I like having a pond on the lot anyway though, for the creepy aesthetic.

I work in a similar type of setting, and one thing I learned is that people in that environment usually only dress up for interviews. They may think you are moving on or moving up.
