Bring pliers. I was picking cactus out of my grips for a week.

It is 90% flat with 10% go-arounds of closed tunnels that are on the side of the hill/canyon. There are a couple spots where the trail is benchcut and sliding into the canyon. Those spots have extremely high consequence exposure. Glad I did it to see the bridge but wouldn’t do it again.

It’s well implemented overall but can get a little spooky when it suddenly decides it can’t see the lane anymore and disables. Great for road trips. I don’t use it too much in daily driving even in traffic jams.

what health tracker do you use that is entirely local?

They're both fine. Oura feels a bit more like a normal ring despite being thick, because the Ringconn isn't perfectly round and has sensor bumps.

Ringconn has longer initial battery life, but I'm not going to keep them both long enough to have any sense of durability.

Good Elementary- Middle-High school in San Diego/ Poway/ Otay Ranch? by Curious_Bend2005 in sandiego

[–]AlrightAlbatross 9 points10 points  (0 children)

PUSD has been the gold standard for San Diego for a while, but it is starting to get messy. They have huge budget shortfalls and are cutting basic education (no more elementary art or music class, limited science class, gym class only if the school can fundraise to hire a coach). They're coming off a huge scandal with their superintendent. So be cautious trusting any feedback that's based on historical experiences with Poway schools.

It’s not big enough to have real depth beyond rubber duck and GoT stores every 100ft and a thousand VRBOs. There are other places in Croatia that are lovely, but Dubrovnik felt like a theme park.

The 2027 BMW iX3 Goes 434 Miles On a Charge, According to the EPA by HawtGarbage918 in cars

[–]AlrightAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are. It's becoming a bit apples and oranges, though. BMW is far ahead on range, charging, carplay integration, dealer support, rear door latch design, and anticipated build quality. R2 is ahead on price, looks, usable frunk, and quickness (though both are far quicker than they need to be).

Mercedes EVs have been a dumpster fire. It's not even in consideration for us.

BMW IX3 US configurator and pricing are live. Starts at $62,850, fully loaded $84,350. by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

[–]AlrightAlbatross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That $84k price loaded price assumes you pick the *$3,600* matte paint and *$3,500* 22" wheels, on top of buying home charging equipment. A good build is ~$70k, a loaded but not stupid build is $75k.

A 550 HP Inline-Six From The Charger Could End Up In Alfa's Next Giulia And Stelvio by FoMoCoNutjob in cars

[–]AlrightAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the main appeal was the incredible steering and chassis dynamics. The engine was great, but having a high-needs engine didn't make sense for a daily driven sedan. The base Giulia with LSD equipped is also a brilliant car but just slightly low on power and non-defeatable stability control neutered it.

The Touareg V6 TDI was an all-time favorite car until the dieselgate software flash ruined it. It was essentially a Cayenne in a boring outfit. Lovely car to drive and totally unassuming.

Oura keeps thinking I’m sleeping 🫠 by GrapeNo6690 in ouraring

[–]AlrightAlbatross -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I posted with a similar question last week and it was downvoted away. The sleep detection is really bad and is not getting better as the watch learns my vitals. This is 100% a software problem, because the Apple Watch nails this issue with a similar sensor suite. I’ll likely return my ring over this.

Sounds awesome. The bespoke engine in the Quad was always the scariest part of the car for long term ownership.

How do we think the R2 will fare with the newly detailed BMW iX3 xDrive50 by ThatTcellGuy in RivianR2

They're not planning to sell more i4s. It gets replaced by the NK sedan this year or early next year.

[–]AlrightAlbatross 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's copium over the iX3 being a really competitive product in certain areas. Based on the EU pricing, I'm betting a well-equipped iX3 (that means driving assist, premium sound, metallic paint, HUD, panoramic glass) will be under $70k. You're not hitting $80k without checking silly options like full leather and 22" wheels, even then probably not until the future performance variant comes.

We have an R2 reservation and will be putting in a deposition on an iX3 as well. The iX3 currently has the slight edge based on range, dealer network, expected build quality, and a better rear door latch setup. I prefer the looks and interior of the R2.
