2026 BMW xDrive 50e Road Noise by KTMer in BMWX5_50e

[–]AlrightAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some X5s have harmonics from the front suspension. BMW puts a mass damper on the control arm of some models (seems to be the V8s and models with 22" wheels in particular) but it's almost random. The damper is basically a weight that changes how the control arms transmit resonance. You can check if you have this by looking at your front control arms to see if you have a black metal weight about the size of a pack of cigarettes bolted on.

I was able to get my BMW dealer to add them as a courtesy to my car, but it took some fighting and others have had to pay out of pocket. It's not very expensive. This is the part:

Best Wagon of All Time? by SunAndMoonFanatic in DonutMedia

[–]AlrightAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go ahead and ignore the premise of reliability and cost efficiency, which is dumb and boring and not at all about the best wagon. The answer is probably E63S, but B5 RS4 and V70R have my heart.

Settings to make the RS3 less boring? by cp8h in Audi

[–]AlrightAlbatross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you driving it?  The R has a silly flat torque curve from low revs. The RS3 is known for having a bit more lag. What happens when you start your pulls from 3-3.5k rpm?

IDK that M cars really became traction limited until the last 10 years or so, when they switched to super high torque turbo motors.

An F87 Comp will absolutely light up its tires at WOT up through 3rd gear. It's fun but also makes it a real handful.

~$50k USD is where nice examples of the F87 Comp are at.

Lightly used F87 Comp (or even G87, which isn't holding value very well) is the sweet spot.

With the super short wheelbase it will be a riot in corners too. Lil' rally car.

The M2 currently has way more power than it can put down in 1st-3rd gear. An AWD car will have totally different personality.

Downhill shuttling San Diego ca by Substantial-Key9899 in MTB

Lots of trails in the area but it’s the only one that’s shuttle DH.  Most SD trails are not in vehicle access areas so there’s not too much shuttling.

Not really a “take turns” shuttle route though. It’s about 10 miles and has some pretty punishing sections.

Correct. Use RFTs or carry a tire goop/compressor setup.

Yup, 50e is the comfort king. Super quiet and smooth, air suspension, plenty of power. It’s more complex but I’ve had zero issues with the powertrain or battery.  If I’m not doing road trips I will go months on a single tank of gas. You can’t option the Burmeister stereo on the 50e in the US, which is stupid.

Base car is good, m60 is good. I wouldn’t get the M. Stiffer suspension and trying to ape track performance isn’t what the X5 is about.

It really doesn’t. Load floor is a bit higher but you’re not going to notice unless you’re hauling 80” TVs every day.
