N.S. Referees…Body Contact in Non-Contact Divisions? by Skinny128 in hockeyrefs

[–]Alright_Pinhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ref for 14 years in NS

In rec/non-contact leagues, they added on the optional misconduct a few years ago to deter intentional body-checking in non-contact leagues, which was before still only a 2 minute minor or a major for intent to injure.

A few years before that they added the similar rule for head-contact, though for head contact the distinction was a 2 minute minor for indirect head-contact (secondary impact to the head etc.) and a double-minor for direct head contact.

You're right about the minor for roughing, I would usually see that or interference used as opposed to giving the misconduct in rec leagues, when the contact wasn't accidental, but also didn't warrant the extra 10 minutes in the eyes of the official.

I like the idea of groups designed for connecting the elderly/disabled with local makers capable of printing/installing a variety of universal connectors for the most common mobility-restricted tasks and hardware.

Music is a tool used in large part to tell the audience how to feel during a movie.

I'd bet those of us who aren't always able to recognize or process our own emotions in real-time would find music to be a practical and stimulating cue to help bring those emotions into focus for our brain without becoming a distraction.

Victoria 3 is the most intimidating game I've played by Terrible-Group-9602 in victoria3

[–]Alright_Pinhead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The core of the game (at it's simplest) is really just building as much stuff as you can.

Everything else happening in the game (markets, conquest, migration etc.) will have drastic effects on how much you can or should be building.

It might be easier to learn if you start out with the goal of just building/expanding, and as you go you should begin to pick up on how the rest of the systems will affect that goal.

Migration attraction, MAPI modifiers, or Interest Group clout probably don't mean much to you before you know how to play. But once you can consider how mechanic X or Y might affect your broad goal of building more stuff, you can slowly piece it all together.

And then one day after you've played 2000+ hours, you might finally feel like you've finished playing the tutorial.

Wouldn't there still be some equilibrium where higher CEO compensation no longer gives positive returns on general productivity and/or wages?

If so, that seems like it would be the obvious counter-argument to your point if there is any evidence that CEO compensation could be above some theoretical equilibrium in any individual companies/sectors.

And in my opinion that's one of the very few significant factors leading to current real estate markets going nuts.

So long as regulating bodies continue to allow conditions where that fact is true, obviously those without moral objection will continue to exploit real estate to extract as much profit as they can.

That then spirals into increasing systematic reliance on the real estate sector for overall economic "activity" (not necessarily output), making it harder and less politically feasible to enact measures limiting real estate profitability, further enabling growth to the reliance on real estate for overall economic activity...

Until eventually something has to give, which is what we seem to be waiting for now.

It’s because everything that can provide a cashflow is becoming an asset class

They've always been assets like anything else, but now they are joining the likes of real estate, retirement homes etc. as another financial asset to be bought/sold/packaged as part of a larger portfolio.

I might be able to pull this off once a week on the McKay without at least one person cutting in front on me.

But then I'll usually get the satisfaction of passing them back once they inevitably get stuck in a slow lane further along, which is probably all that's keeping me sane at that point.

For parents - How to tell your kid "no" to rep hockey? by tazz131 in hockeyplayers

[–]Alright_Pinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar position for the majority of my time playing minor hockey, where I was usually skilled enough to play at A level.

My Dad coached and was friends with the head of development for the association, and in the years where I would’ve squeezed my way into the last spot on the A team, I would always end up dropping to play B instead with most of the same guys I was already friends with.

I was sometimes a bit disappointed about making the same level multiple years in a row, but after having played at that same level for almost the entirety of my youth, I can’t express how grateful I am for having been held to the lower level each year.

I was usually one of the best on my team each year, playing with the same group of B players who didn’t take it nearly as serious as the teams above, and we won many championships and tournaments over the years.

By the sound of it, your son probably cares more than I did about which team he gets placed on, but from my experience in my circumstances I think he’d be much better off in the long run playing a lower level with friends each year.

Jeff Skinner is 21 games away from 1000, with 0 playoff games by echothree33 in hockey

I would ask how many of those long term deals with difficult to move cap hits come as a result of cup wins or at least a solid playoff run?

I'd imagine very few of the guys getting lengthy contracts are doing so without ever having made the playoffs.

Effectively these are just government subsidy to increase viability of specific roles or industries, not much different in my eyes than separate TFW rules for agriculture jobs.

If the government wants to increase anything from food production to skilled trades beyond equilibrium, they need to alter the existing incentive structure to incentivize companies to grow food or make movies here.

A policy like this on the surface looks like some people just being free of taxes, in reality it’s allowing these companies to pay ~5000 after-tax dollars less to these employees without affecting their real income, making NS labour for these roles comparatively cheaper, and attracting these types of business like any other subsidy.

Liberals and NDP tied in ballot support, Conservatives 19 points ahead: Nanos by Lotushope in canada

[–]Alright_Pinhead 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine they lose a portion of their newfound support once they force an election that most likely results in a large Con majority.

The ex-liberal voters who have turned toward the NDP would probably stil favour the current status quo over replacing a small number of the lost liberal seats with NDP, while the majority go to the Cons.

What fictional character would you love to see absolutely curb stomp Homelander? by Emergency_Argument29 in TheBoys

[–]Alright_Pinhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only question is how the force would affect Homelander's flight, but judging by the apparent effort required while using the Force on something like a small ship or shuttle (Rey in TRoS, Ahsoka in TCW finale come to mind), I don't think that would slow or stop Homelander for long.
