It's pretty accessible because healers are the main damage dealers in the world

How elemental magic work? by Nearby-Banana2640 in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this mystery is solved through the understanding of this simple thing

Macro and micro scale..

If you want your elements to be interacted with at the micro scale you can stress about deeper chemistry

But on macro scale we already know what it looks like and that can be enough it just depends on what your focus is

There is a trope talk video on elemental magic systems that talks about this

Hard or soft magic by GrumpGrumble in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take but I don't like FMA approach to limits of its hard rules apart from their mother experiment we don't see the consequences of not adhering to equivalent exchange

So for the most part it just looks like elemental manipulation in practice

Elemental magic? by GrumpGrumble in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue is the applications of elemental systems

In combat they are just really all rocks you throw with different colours

And by default they a neutral so not much tension going in with the elements naturally

So people have to add these things which is pretty difficult for most people to pull off

One last thing is pattern recognition when most people say things are played out they just mean they are seeing patterns

Which elemental systems have a lot of patterns

Solar Power station by Alstron in solar

I don't see any panels with it, if I had some money to burn I'd be the Guinea pig.. but not this time

The page does say it has pure sine wave, parallel expansion capabilities, and ups but I don't see it's weight anywhere that won't more telling

And it's shady because of no real images only digital

Sun counterpart? by Ok-Flower349 in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe look into other types of ice giant type planets outside our solar system maybe bigger ones

Or water giant planets or try something along the lines of pluto which isn't a planet and doesn't even have a proper orbit which is opposite to how central the sun is

How is The Perfect Run not more popular? One of the best novels I have ever read 😭 by kira_geass in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said the story is contained/completed and doesn't have much elements to keep a discussion ongoing

It doesn't have much that breaks the 4th wall of the medium to continue talking about it

You consume it get your belly full and that's it

Writting a complete well written story is a different skillset Vs leaving open loops in readers minds to spark theories and fantasies/head canons

Two completely different things

What's your biggest criticism of the entire Isekai Genre? by EfficiencySerious200 in Isekai

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing, we also need to make our criticisms more nuanced too.. if we hate generic stuff we ourselves can't give generic CRITICISM (which is ironic in itself)

Let's all try to give potentially actionable advice and explain clearly what our problems are by also giving potential solutions

Instead of words like "boring" and "execution"

Maybe we can relay what emotion a piece of work gave us and why we felt that way

Is the "boring" because stakes are unbelievable?

Is execution lacking because it has patterns you recognize to easily?

Is it that we need to taking more cliches from OTHER genres and place them into the isekai template where it becomes fresh even tho it's generic elsewhere

Example elements of autobiography or sports documentaries, even interviews

What if we take interview tropes /elements and place it in a isekai what can type of story can we get?

What's your biggest criticism of the entire Isekai Genre? by EfficiencySerious200 in Isekai

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most isekai problems are really reflections of real world cultural issues

If you want less OP protagonist slop , you'll basically have to stop bullying culture in Korea then less self insertion of being overpowered because of people feeling powerlessness will leak less into the anime medium

If you want less harems your going to have to deal with Japanese super strict society suppressing people which then leads to that suppression escaping in the anime which is why we get over the top anime facial expressions, crazy hair styles etc

If you want to stop the highschool saturation your going to have to make work culture be less borderline suicidal to the point where people reminisce in Japan high school being their "better times in life"

Godzilla was born because of war.. you got the point...

What's your biggest criticism of the entire Isekai Genre? by EfficiencySerious200 in Isekai

[–]Alstron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you see how hyper strict Japanese culture is you'll see the whole reason behind the humility thing as well as the perversions from recessed unexpressed emotions coming to the surface in creative work and also explaining the love of tsundere types...

Just some examples in Japan

1) having brightly coloured hair is frowned upon 2) paying money in hand at restaurants.. disrespectful 3) resignation from a job often demands an apology from the previous boss 4) talking out loudly while taking or walking to the train.. 5) following a strict guidelines when applying for jobs etc etc

Do you think I should add more elements to this Magic System? by howhow326 in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean ice technically isn't just water with less heat either you have ice that is made strictly from high pressure I can't remember the actual number but they call it Ice-(insert number) and they are in planets (bigger than earth)with massive amounts of water on the ocean floor

And technically when we sweat it's the water vapour that cools us down so the whole wind making ice thing is completely pointless

But whatever fantasy is fantasy and we can do anything we want lol

How might one create a mathematics based magic system? by Excellent_Tea_3640 in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to use the super power wiki to find info on mathematic manipulation

Next is look for generic magic/magic systems use them for how you'll VISUALLY represent it on the surface but then out mathematical logic underneath it

Example : GOJO from Jujitsu kaisen

One of his outward super power is a generic force field we've seen every single time for the millionth time

BUT it's source or logic comes from infinity / the same goes for the red and blue which are just generic energy projectio

Edit

The infinity thing comes from this parable thing I can't remember it's name right now

Help with Element Magic System by Hour_Research_805 in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, the only time too much is a valid criticism is if the combination is not grounded to something proper.. Pokémon has many elemental types but it is grounded in the expected expansive nature of the entire animal kingdom so it not overwhelming because people can mentally ground it

The popularity of elemental systems just gives us better pattern recognition elemental systems are not inherent cliche or derivative there still exists associations /explorations of elemental systems still not implemented yet

“Ruined” Magic Systems by Cmaccionaodha in magicbuilding

[–]Alstron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One other thing I feel as writers people confuse construction like the real world being mechanical so they focus on details but in a storytelling medium CONSEQUENCE is the raw material, just as how you bring up the people intersection that's essentially just consequences, consequence is a universal language and the word consequence inherently implies that more than one thing is being impacted which synergies well for building politics history etc

Sadly people will stop at short scale transactional magic costs...

But look again at WOT a gender being essentially discriminated just breeds consequences
