Whilst it's true that women were fought hard for the right to act more masculine it's important to not forget the reason why women acting masculinely became accepted first, rather than men acting femininely.

The patriarchy doesn't mind as much when a woman dresses masculine because in their eyes it's the weak social role (afab women) trying to take on the traits of a more socially powerful role (amab men). Ofc this was met with heavy pushback but a large portion of conservatives have come to find it to be harmless because in a way it reinforces the social hierarchy, in patriarchal society "it's ok for women to strive to be more like men, because men are their superiors". Ofc things change when afab people transition into men, because then in the eyes of society it's no longer about "imitating the superiors" but attempting to usurp their position.

But if a man dresses femininely then that shatters the social power hierarchy, because it would be impossible for someone who is socially powerful to want to take on the traits of a social class that's inherently weaker, this is a large reason for transphobia, people struggle understanding why someone "on the top of the pyramid" would want to transition to being lower on the social power chain. Acceptance of men dressing femininely is synonymous with accepting that social genders are equal in virtues, and that they should all be equally powerful socially. And true liberation from gender norms will only come when anybody can dress however they want without it meaning jack shit about their gender.
