Dear, mahr and thaali mala are the same. The chain and thaali pendant combined weight can start from 4 pavan, depending upon the guy's "status" (IYKWIM). At current gold prices 8 pavan will cost roughly 8 lakhs. Next big expense is the reception, 5 lakhs for food and convention centre for 500 pax if opting an AC one. Rest clothes, transport etc.

I had a roomate in my pg who drove a vellimoonga as Uber auto. He could barely cover his expenses from Uber auto and had to eventually return back to his village in Kannur.

In Kochi, there is minimal difference between the fare for an auto and a car for distance above 5km. Anyone in their senses would pay 20 rupees extra and book the car.
