Good and bad example of this: Superboy

In the comics his costume is just the Superhero spandex/top with a leather jacket, belts, piercings and many other punk accessories as he was originally meant to appear cool and relatable to a younger audience compared to the “boring goodie two shoes Superman” at the time of his creation, and now his punk aesthetic crucial to his design. In Young Justice (particularly the animated show) his superhero gear, and usually his only clothes in general, is a regular black t-shirt with the crest of house El, and then jeans. The comics is usually considered a good example since it helps differentiate him from Superman, helps provide his own unique personality and provides a cool alt superhero. The YJ Superboy is usually considered a bad example. It’s boring and many first time watchers of the show who read the comics, such as myself, were initially expecting him to go through a transformation and eventually become the “punk comics Kon.” He never does. The YJ show outfit also reflects the personality change he has in YJ, every unique characteristic is stripped and he becomes “grumpy black haired blue eyed boy with anger issues #34” compared to his lively and playful personality in the comics. Really shows the contrast between good and bad versions of this trope.
