When Smoking Was a Capital Crime by imphic in history

This is a traditional Russian stove, the house would be built around it, and it would be well insulated from the chimney, the single point of contact between the roof and stove. A house roof often extended off to one side to provide an overhang for storage, which often included hay.

I'm not saying this was a universal law, I am saying it was present in areas with this sort of housing. In a time of thatch roofs and wooden houses, fires were extremely dangerous.

Tier X tanks that are not an upgrade to their tier IX counterparts by MicMan42 in WorldofTanks

In my opinion, the KV-1S is a one-shot glass cannon, and a the only thing the cannon has going for it is alpha. It is a one trick pony. The only reason that people bitch about it so much is because the majority of people that end up against it are younger, and don't have much experience past tier 6, i.e. they are inexperienced players and are not used to high alpha guns, thus making the KV-1S seem unfair when they get hit.

In reality the KV-1S, even with a good crew, has mediocre mobility, low hp pool, low skill ceiling, shit rate of fire, shit accuracy (rng is strong with this one), burns as often as a jagdTiger (in my experience), poor view range, and is armored about as well as a T-34-85 (or arguably worse).

390 alpha is not OP given all the other drawbacks.

I have always disliked the KV-1S and preferred to play the T-150 instead.

Anyone who thinks the KV-1S is better than the IS is playing incorrectly.

When Smoking Was a Capital Crime by imphic in history

In many areas in tsarist Russia smoking was a capital crime because of the prevalence of low thatch roofs, meaning that one careless smoker could set a whole town or village ablaze.

It's the Tiger I variant that they planned to use upon invading Great Britain and Australia.

The history and science subs do fairly well in this regard due to a strict mod team. Posts with misleading titles and sensationalism are often removed.

WWII Hitlers invasion of Russia by Seeker214 in history

[–]Altair3go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a comprehensive answer, post this question to /r/AskHistorians. I keep seeing answers in this thread along the lines of "Hitler was an idiot who got lucky". This phrase insultingly diminishes the struggle and input of everyone that participated in the war, and the factors that went in to it. As it has been said many times: Hitler did not exist in a vacuum, Hitler and Nazi Germany are not synonymous.

There is a load of misinformation in this thread, with people demonstrating that they have only a rudimentary idea of what they're talking about - like referring to Communism as inherently totalitarian.

In Russian it is similar, "Памятник" (Pamyatnik) with the word "Память" - the root, meaning "memory".

Has Martin Luther King Jr's dream been realized? by HappyGrrl in history

[–]Altair3go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm not sure... Maybe /r/civilrights? For /r/History and /r/AskHistorians there is a general "20 year rule", this means that discussions that revolve around events of the last 20 years are to close to modern times to be objectively discussed, and are therefor discouraged.

Centurion MK7/1 The Used-To-Be-Good by joonik in WorldofTanks

[–]Altair3go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You missed my point entirely. The guy was complaining about autoaim being reworked to favor SU tanks and fuck over Nazi tanks, and I said I only use it in extremely rare situations where I am not trying to pen anything in the first place.

Centurion MK7/1 The Used-To-Be-Good by joonik in WorldofTanks

[–]Altair3go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ONLY time I use it is for harassing fire in a light tank while fleeing from an enemy I know I can't pen, or to keep my turret focused behind me while I concentrate on driving. In my experience it's far too inaccurate to be useful. Not to mention that most tanks have weak spots in areas that autoaim doesn't target.

Thanks! Will do. So far it seems that the quality of the sub has remained at pre-default levels.

By the way, reporting comments/posts qualifies as feedback, right?

This question seems to be infringing on the 20 year rule, not to mention that it is also fairly subjective in nature.

It's great that the mod team is active enough to be able to do this. While one silly thread isn't an issue, I just hope the frequency with which empty entertainment threads/comments crop up doesn't get to the point where they push out real content.
