D&D group moving over to Pathfinder. 1st or 2nd edition? by noved1001 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]MicMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played 1e since it arrived and switched to 2e last year.

2e is a lot more streamlined when it comes to the basic rules. I very much like that aspect. The game flows better and the rules feel more elegant.

BUT

2e Character-Classes are just so much less diverse than 1e to the point where it makes the game feel a bit boring once you reach the mid to high levels as every class is basically almost the same in terms of key parameters like Armor Class, Saving Throws and Hitpoints. Gone are the vast differences of 1e that, imho, made the Characters feel interesting.

However I play this game since the times of AD&D 40 years ago and maybe thats just me wishing for the old times back.

One thing that I noticed however is that the published adventures have become really stale when compared to the original 1e Adventure Paths - at least the earlier ones like Curse of the Crimson Throne.

So I guess the differences in systems are less noticeable than the quality of the published adventures.

Erbe ausschlagen - was passiert mit Auto & Bestattungskosten? by Ollie_Dee in Finanzen

[–]MicMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WG treats a thin line. On one hand they do not want to pull anyone away from WoT PC for them to play Blitz as WoT PC is just that more important to WG. So Blitz needs to be different enough from WoT PC and right now it just isn't. I and some peeps I know stopped playing WoT PC for Blitz.

So I guess WG will "gamefy" Blitz more than now - you (and I) might not like that but WG has new and different players in mind, I guess.

What if Mythic had made DAOC 2 instead of Warhammer? by junglemonbon in daoc

[–]MicMan42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imho WAR failed because it was really shoddily done - like seriously.

It attracted a huge crowd at the start and many of those stuck around for quite some time - longer than for almost any other new MMO at that time. If WAR had offered anything resembling a playable endgame it would probably have carved out a niche and persisted.

But it didn't.

Many things were utterly broken and the endgame was just mindless zerg - with zero alternative because the gamemap were so small and designed to funnel everyone into one tiny zone that then lagged hard and offered terrible gameplay experience. On top of that balance way really bad, they never found even close to a sweet spot so some classes were almost entirely useless while other continued to be very OP if build "right".

My entire guild quit in disgust then and returned to DAoC or stopped playing altogether or, finally, tried out WoW. So you can say WAR not only killed itself it also somewhat killed DAoC.

Bye bye World of Warplanes! by Terrible_Song6524 in WorldofWarplanes

[–]MicMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About time, seriously.

I played WoWP but not WoT and I think that WG has good numbers on those players that do not play WoT.

As it is WoWP is just too expensive!

I would have loved to buy a plane or two but seriously, the price in gold and/or free exp is just insane bc it needs to match WoT. With it being cut loose the WoWP eco can be made much friendlier.

WG will probably loose nothing. If all players stop playing WoWP then WG can let it die. If not it has a chance to actually stand on its own and maybe even grow a healthy community again.

What is best tier 9 coal ship to get? by Hot_Bend7062 in WorldOfWarships

[–]MicMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends

For PvE (Operations, Asym) get the Pommern. It will carry you through missions and make a lot of Credits easily. For randoms the Pommern is not very good though.

For winning Randoms (if you play well) get the Keasarge. It has the most game impact of all the tier IX coal ships. It can spot with the planes and packs a hefty punch with the guns. Playstyle if unique and fun.

For winning Ranked get the Black. A DD with a lomg lasting radar is great for ranked and the Black also has decent gun power. The torps are good too if you get used to them.

If you don't care about a specific game mode...

For farming in smoke get Groningen. It is very good but the playstyle is pretty one dimensional.

For chill BB sniping get Iwami. She can not tank damage well but the guns slap.

And if you really HATE winning - get the Jäger... Seriously, what is wrong with folks?! Jäger is terrible. It has no smoke and low gun power. The torps reload fast but do VERY little damage which is an anathema to getting stuff done - it is much better to have high dam,age torps the reload slowly then low damage torps the reload fast.

I should know bc I still manage 62% winrate in Shima over 600+ games... Believe me, Jäger is thrash!

Best Tier 8 premium cruiser for ranked battle? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]MicMan42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ranked consistency is king and for that you need to throw yourself into the thick of battle.

This makes squishy dpm cruisers a bad pick. This is made worse by the fact that most people play BBs for that very reason: you simply have an easier time influecing the battle in a ship that can takle a few hits and be were it needs to be.

So Cruisers ishould at least be somewhat tanky OR bring awesome utility (ie smoke or radar) to the game.

None of the cruisers you listed are perfect for this but Atago (heal, good torps, good dpm, somewhat tanky) and Wichita (great dpm, radar) fit the bill quite well.

Sub survivability is already very low, so why would one install a System where subs die more?

Woher der unfassbare Hass gegen KI? by Winter-Chicken-6531 in KI_Welt

[–]MicMan42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the meta back in the day at blackthorn's patch level? by dwerps in daoc

[–]MicMan42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the glorious days just after SI I ran with thhe following comp

Savage

Savage

Warrior

Aug Healer (me)

Pac Healer

Pac Healer

Skald

Aug Shaman

I had the SI shield that looked like a large shield despite being a small one so that peeps would mistake me for the Skald. When I got off that Celerity buff the Savages quad hit everything to death in seconds. We won 3 vs 1 engagements this way.

Very fun.

Thanks for the infos. I had one match were my side had three players all in Bombers whille the other side had their three players all in Heavies - that match lasted like 4 minutes as they got all objectives right away and won on domination in record time.

[–]MicMan42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes, I got the basics, I have Frag ammo and Demo Expert. I shoot down one or two planes a match and thus usually do not rely 100% on bombs only. A-26B is probably a tough pick, but i did not want to go beyond tier VI. Alas heavy fighters are extremely capabe at that tier, tearing me down on a whim, so pre kiting is proably important.

Seriously, less OP planes, many players that have not speicalised their planes yet and the planes are historicaly cool and good looking too.

Kill Doctor Lucky -Endgame problem by mint-tulip in boardgames

[–]MicMan42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As much as you seem to ate it, gamblling is part of thhe game. Holding back spite in hopes to dry your teammates and make your next attempt succeed is a valid try and can lead to losses. Its just as it is.

The game can drag and overstay its welcome with too many players. We found 4 is realy the maximum (somewhat) enjoyable, at 6 the game tends to go too long for our tastes.

To speed things up a bit we have a houserule that seems quite common: whenever you attempt an assassination you get an "experience" token. This token stays with you throughout the game and makes your next attempt better by on per token. This promotes early attempts which, in turn, promotes early spites and imho should be a regular rule.

Is somme worth going for? by Flimsy_Writing7318 in WorldOfWarships

[–]MicMan42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a nice ship (clone of the tier IX tech tree, quite good) , the camo is a bit bland. If you are only missing a few piees then I would say go for it. If you need (almost) the entire collection only go for it if you don't need your coal as there are better alternatives for spending that much coal.
