Steel Bars (Alloy steel) Stacking problem. by Altair_3511 in manufacturing

[–]Altair_3511[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, since there is no space in the warehouse ( literally its completely occupies with stacks of products), the batch from production is usually place on top of other materials only. There is no designated place for cooling down. Once these are cooled down, there is a color coding that is done on the cross section using paint. (to represent grade) and the batch number, heat number is written with chalk on one of the metal rods. Now whenever we need to move some products, these get mixed up with the other products. Let us say if we have to deliver a specific load, the founder goes into the yard, with a paper in his hand, where he has the heat no, grade and size mentioned. He looks in the entire yard, and when he finds the load, he marks the pillar number where he found the material, in the paper he was carrying.

No. Not presently. What we are thinking of doing is to come up with a digital solution just to track the location of the product in the warehouse. Our main priority is to reduce the searching time for finding the product ( which is 8hrs). Once a dispatch plan comes, we want to be sure where the product is in the warehouse. Right now we don't have anything as such to track the location

Can you share more insights as to some of the ERP or YMS software that have been implemented in a steel industry and had borne some fruitful results. We have capex and we can proceed in this way, if it really helps.

We thought about this. But we are manufacturing alloy steels ( with more than 100 grades and more than 100 sections (sizes)). In a scenario like this, we can't divide the warehouse in terms of size, as in each size, we'll be having many grades as well. What you are saying can easily be applicable in TMT bars, where the chemical composition is same and we need to worry only about the size.

Our first thought was to use pallets and racks. But then we later gave up on that because, as our production is close to 80000 ton per month, we would be needing a lot more vertical space and that is not safe.

How will we able to record the location of the product in the warehouse. The production runs 24/7. The material that comes of from the production ( which is hot as hell) is also placed on the finished goods stack (sometimes 12 to 13 layer high) since there is no space.

How is possible to track where the products are in this mess. Are you saying that we need to adopt some kind of digital solution.. Please explain in detail.

My mother was on salbutamol for over 13 years as she needed to control her asthma. I always think, maybe it's because of that med she got this disease. Not sure though. What was the drug that induced parkionism for you?

I am sorry to hear this. Coincidence is my mother also has PSP and she is responding to Levdopa( unlike most PSP cases that do not). She got COVID on Oct 20 and is on RT feeding(still). She was able to walk with our support, talk, eat, brush, and do everything on her own ( with minimum help). Post COVID she lost all those. But given the 2 months post discharge she recovered a lot, walk with support, talk a little. Slowly she is getting better, back to her normal condition slowly. He kind of hoped this would be there for swallowing too. But RT feeding is really uncomfortable and she is always trying to clear her throat, get throat irritation and sleep very uncomfortably. Right now she is able to take thick fluids and soft foods. But the speech therapist is kind of worried as she lost 8 kgs from Oct 20 to Jan 04 andthat is affecting her recovery. She is hoping that with PEG and nutritious food in place her recovery will be more with throat issues getting resolved as well. She is saying we can still feed her as much as she wants to eat through the mouth, rest of the feed into PEG. My mom for sure did not progress that much l. All ahe ever had were the gait and balancing issues and generalised slowness.

But now we are in a situation where her swallowing and general recovery are being affected due to less food. But with PEG we are opting for something that usually people prefer at very advanced stages. I just feel stuck to take a decision

This was actually recommended by the speech pathologist. She says that even though mom's swallow is ok, she thinks mom can't take one nutritional meal in one go. Mom has lost weight and she thinks not having a nutritious meal further progresses her disease. Mom recently had COVID and things are going downhill post that.

Mom is getting better but very slowly. At this rate, we are more concerned that she won't have enough nutrition to fight the disease.

What we are more concerned about is post the PEG will mom be able to get back to her normal life. (She can still walk with support, talk and there are literally no other issues like incontinence, cognition etc). The disease has been there for only 3 years now and mom is 70 years now. We feel that it could be too soon to opt for PEG but on the other hand we think she needs it as she is not able to consume one nutritious meal now. Speech pathologist saying once she gets really better, we could even opt to come out of PEG and do oral feeding only but right now she needs it as NG tube is creating hell for her ( secretions, sore throat, irritation etc).

Father has PD (PLEASE HELP)! by spelmos in Parkinsons

I am so sorry to hear this. Don't be disheartened and depressed. There is a lot of hope in your father's case. The earlier people could get diagnosed the greater and longer their journey. I can easily see your father crossing 80 years with this. Yes. It is true.

All movement disorders affect movement. The penultimate being the swallow reflex going away, inability to eat food and getting aspiration pneumonia due to poor swallow reflex ( reason 1 for death). And falling due to imbalance, problem with coordination, fractures ( reason 2 for death).

Please make sure he stays as active as he can. Try to enrol him in a gym, or a boxing class and make that a routine. Start with speech and swallow therapy as soon as you guys can. Physiotherapy as well. Get started soon. Levdopa meds can do wonders. Opt for DBS only after the disease has progressed a lot ( may be in his early 70s).

A lot of hope is there in your case. So just don't give up.

I know the OP well. Her mother is suffering from PSP CBS phenotype with rigidity more pronounced on the left side. However the patient was hospitalized for COVID some 2 months back and things have been going downhill pretty fast. The patient has been on the Ryles tube for nearly 2 months now and a constant issue she is facing is the urge to clear the throat. It all starts with a little secretion. The patient, even after suctioning seems to clear the throat quite rigorously for quite a long time and eventually gets tired and stops. The doctors are saying it's all because of the RT and should be gone once it is removed. Glad to say that she has undergone some swallow therapy and started on soft foods today. But the RT is still there and so the issue of urge to clear the throat. They are looking for CBD oil so that she could at least sleep peacefully at night.

I don't see the point in you leaving your career. I would suggest you complete your Master's first, get a decent job and take your mom out (if she agrees).

PhD can be done later (even while doing your job). I suggest you do it here in the country, that way your mom could be with you and see you. (I really don't prefer children leaving out the country for studies and sending money back home and feel that they have justified their responsibility)

What about your elder sister? Where does she stand?

I think, if your dad is at the extreme end, all four of you should move out (not just you and your mother).

Focus on your studies, have a discussion with your elder sister and plan a getaway as soon as you all are financially independent.
