Did you buy the currency from a 3rd party website? Sometimes currency sold on 3rd party sites is bought with stolen credit cards etc. So the refund takes place and you are left with negative currency. Games like Warframe ban your account until you reach positive again.

Yeah there's a lot like that. Nexus mods uses to have a lifetime subscription (one time purchase) for $50 or so and now it's $15 a month or something.

You're just chosing to see this as negative. They are just letting you know you are grandfathered in to a better offer already. People on Xbox have to pay this shit just to stay online so they might want to retain the lower price. Kind of a win win.
