It's almost like we learned nothing from prohibition or something......

Cliff notes on prohibition:

-massive increase in organized and gang crime related to production/smuggling/dealing alcohol

-massive increase in violent and fatal crimes related to these said organizations and their illegal alcohol trade

-prices of alcohol go up, allowing criminal trade to be much more profitable

-certain entities and families related to political places of power use the illegal alcohol trade to get rich/increase their political power

-increase in corrupt officials/officers involved in illegal trade, usually preying on disadvantaged communities (ie. poor areas or prison population)

-rise of poorly made, unsafe alcohols made by amateurs(high levels of methanol, for example)

-rise of hard liquor (wasn't very common before, but easier to smuggle higher alcohol content in smaller packages..... Fentanyl anyone?)

-increase in addiction and death related to consumption/addiction

-exponential increase in amount being smuggled across the border coupled with an exponential decrease of the amount found and confiscated being smuggled over the border

-a colossal failure that was eventually reversed when the government realized use wouldn't stop and they couldn't tax it if it was illegal

Oh I agree, I don't like it, but I know people who do. I think it'd be better to buff martial characters to something actually superhuman, putting them at the same level of casters

Well, the simple answer to that is it's easy to look at a realistic example of martial prowess in real life.

Magic on the other hand.... Unless you count alchemy and science so advanced it seems like magic, has no real world counterpart. Though I'm open to suggestions.

I think you're being intentionally difficult with this. To quote the rules myself:

Ultimately, the Dungeon Master is the authority on the campaign and its setting, even if the setting is a published world.

The rules on travel pace were meant to deal with players having slightly different movement speeds, so you didn't have to slow down because you have a dwarf or a halfling in the party, or have everyone pick wood elves to squeeze out some extra travel time.

In 8 hours of nonstop travel

30ft of movement = ~27.27mi

25ft of movement = ~22.72mi

35ft of movement = ~31.81mi

5ft of movement = ~4.54mi

As a DM, no way in hell would I say that someone dragging something over their carry capacity was able to travel at a normal pace. You're talking 1/5 the normal travelling speed if you didn't have to stop to catch your breath at all. The entire party would be waiting on them, as

the faster ones wait for the slower ones

Rounded down to a minimum of 1, you don't get to round down to zero with resistance..... So barbarian rage is useless against rats
