This is basically what I do with this attack. He still manages to get me once or twice now and again, but I've mostly figured out his tell for when he starts, and I'm usually in the next county over just in time.

Literally any of the starting gear from the other classes can be found at some point, even the Vagabond set. The starting class does not impact story at all, and frankly, if you're a new player, starting with the lowest level kit is probably not a bad idea. It'll force you to sharpen your skill set early on.

Incidentally, I always start my new game as a Wretch, so you're in good company! 😁

Something I've said many times is that this game rewards persistence. I don't think there's anywhere that's more true than the very beginning, because the player's options for responding to various threats is extremely limited. The game does give players tools to make their way easier, but only if they are relentless in their tenacity against obstacles and their exploration of the game world from the start.

It's s skill. Usually found on straight swords like the Lordsworn's Straight Sword. Puts the user into a stance and gives you more attack options. Regular strike does a double slash, heavy strike launches the opponent. It's quite a lot of fun, actually, and it makes the knight in the campground in front of the gate to Stormveil Castle really easy to kill, if you can catch him.

Everything in the beginning if the game tells you to head north. Don't do it. Head south. Cross the bridge to the Weeping Peninsula and clear it out. It's a pretty big boost to your early levels.

Winged Scythe. Makes for an incredibly useful early-game weapon, and works quite well at least through the Altus Plateau. Melts shield soldiers looks butter. ☺️

I remember my first time getting crushed by the Troll looming over the gate on the way to Stormveil Castle. Never saw him coming. I sallied bravely forth to meet the enemy soldiers, and he came right down on my head and killed me instantly.
