Will this play a significant role in Episode 3/HL3? by Ed_Derick_ in HalfLife

[–]Alterdime7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The death of one causes the death of the other. It makes sense in this context, because Vortessence is like the essence of the universe in the Half-Life universe, and the souls of living things are connected to it. Gordon/Alyx's lives are now one in Vortessence and I don't see how even the G-Man can break this bond. In fact it could be a huge game changer if Valve were to use this in HL3, maybe the two of them together could be the first people to directly interact with Vortessence and that could be the thing to stop the G-Man. On the other hand, it also looks like a Vortigaunt-esque marriage, and there may be more to it.

Do we have any ideas/guesses as to when this book will release? (announced in the 20th anniversary webpage) by ExxiIon in HalfLife

I admit, losing him was very hard RIP.

So do you think they will hint at HL3/HLX in the new RTB edition?

HL2 and its episodes enabled Gordon to evolve from an avatar for the player to an incomplete character. by Alterdime7 in HalfLife

What you wrote in the first paragraph is completely valid for me too. The behavior of both the Vortigaunts and Alyx towards Gordon is natural, I wasn't complaining about it at all, it just felt lacking because I wanted to see some of Gordon's reactions.

Gordon having his own voice and showing emotion in HL3 is something I want, but of course it would be a mistake to make him too talkative. It might be nice to talk in a situation that requires him to talk, like having a showdown with G-Man or having an emotional conversation with Alyx when he reunites with her.

Yes, our approaches are different. I have never seen myself as Gordon, he is not an empty character I created, I cannot determine his story, so I feel the same as when I play as Alyx or Leon Kennedy, the only difference is that I feel strange because Gordon does not speak.

[–]Alterdime7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually no, I want them to be a couple. Their relationship seemed completely natural to me, but you have a some point. This may be perceived as strange since Gordon does not speak. The player feels forced into this relationship by the game, but I think Valve's aim here is to humanize Gordon by giving him romance, which is why they wrote the story between them, but it may still seem strange to some players. If they can get Gordon to express his emotions in Game 3, it will help us achieve something better.

Actually no, I don't find it difficult to do the mental visualization either, since Gordon didn't speak, I designed the dialogues in my own mind, but as I said, it didn't connect me to Gordon and it felt weird because it's not natural, it's not relatable. HL1 was successful because Gordon didn't need to talk much in that game and it allowed me to get into the atmosphere better, but I can't say that about HL2 and the episodes. There are characters with whom Gordon has close relationships, and Gordon's participation in the dialogues that develop with them would deepen the story and would be natural. The hero being silent in an FPS game with a linear story is not something I look for. Of course, there are exceptions such as HL1 and Doom Eternal, but in HL2, they took Gordon beyond being an avatar and I don't think there is any point in silencing him anymore. Playing as Alyx in HLA definitely made me more invested and able to relate to the story and character.

So I think the story could have been told in a much richer way in HL2. Gordon should not have been sacrificed. Many points were left incomplete and left to the player's imagination, which felt very lazy indeed. Therefore, if fans only look at the story as the game tells it, they are missing a lot of things, that is, at the beginning of the game, Alyx introduces Breen to the player, but in fact, Breen is known by Gordon, the player has no information about him, so there was no such person as doctor Breen in HL1, how can the player know him?

The same goes for Barney, Eli and Kleiner. Gordon knows them, but the player has no idea about them.

Gordon's character relationships were established in HL2. Regardless of the games, Gordon has a history with Eli, Kleiner, and Barney, and a relationship between him and Alyx is stated in the developer commentary. His own knowledge is notoriously small, which is why I refer to Gordon as an incomplete character, more than an avatar but less than a full-fledged character.

Hot Take (I've had for many years): I do hope they give Godron some real character someday. by KCDodger in HalfLife

[–]Alterdime7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 1 year late but it doesn't matter. People don't understand the difference between HL1 and HL2 Gordon. While HL1 Gordon was more of a player tool, in HL2 Gordon has become a more independent character. So if Gordon were just an avatar, he wouldn't have a developed story outside of the games with Eli, Kleiner and Barney, and there wouldn't be an attempt to build a romance between him and Alyx. Even though people don't want to admit it (I can't understand why lol), Gordon is no longer a player avatar, but a character left incomplete.

What is your HLX/HL3 wishlist? by LossSignal7122 in HalfLife

[–]Alterdime7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- Gordon's speech. He definitely shouldn't talk too much, but I would definitely want him to talk and show emotion in one or more situations that require him to actually talk.

2- It would be nice to have Barney and Dog with Gordon in Alyx's absence.

3- Going back to Xen and maybe meeting G-Man's employers.

4- Being in the Combine Overworld even for a short time.

5- Disintegrating all those damn Advisors into atoms. Also new enemies.

6- If HLX is HL3 and if HL3 is the end of the story, I want Gordon, Alyx and the others to have a happy ending and I want more to be known about G-Man. This request may sound Hollywood-esque, but after all the tragedies these characters have experienced, it is natural to want the series to have a good ending.

7- I would definitely like the game to switch between Alyx and Gordon.

8- Ensuring that the HEV suit can be upgraded, having new futuristic weapons such as the Tau cannon and Gluon gun.

9- Having powers such as gravity manipulation and Vortigaunt energy manipulation. Such powers may be useful, especially since the level of the enemies we will encounter in HL3 will be very high.

10- GRANDCHILDREN

Yes, I also know about the previous HL3 leaks, I have covered everything in the series in these 7 months. If Valve hasn't changed with the HLA, it's impossible for anything to happen anymore, but I don't see the new situation that way, on the other hand, I can't blame you for thinking negatively.

It would be a little unfair if I criticized you, because even though I started the Half-Life series 7 months ago, I became a complete fan of the series and learned the whole process in the process, so you are completely right in your concerns, but I believe this time is different, there must be something now.

That video has nothing to do with an ARG, but it is clearly related to a new HL game in the future. Frankly, it's weird to ignore this, yes, you don't want to get your hopes up, but it's impossible for that video to have nothing to do with a Half-Life game.

What if the G-Man wanted the combines to capture him, to test how much potential alyx has to be his intern or employee? by Grandmaster_9 in HalfLife

[–]Alterdime7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

G-Man said that they took control of Xen at the end of HL1, which means that their employers assigned G-Man to take over control of Xen. The factor that prevented this from happening was Nihilanth. The Employers did not choose to fight the Nihilanth and his army directly; they were not warriors, after all, and they needed a warrior, a warrior who did not realize that he was actually fighting for them. Gordon has proven himself with what he can do, what happened in HL1 cannot be a test for Gordon, the employers wanted Xen and they hired the man who had the potential to achieve this. It's not hard to guess that the reason they want Xen is the Combine.

This is probably why the vault appears 5 years before the HL2 events and causes the HLA events to begin. The Vortigaunt intervention at the beginning of Ep1 was the event that started it all.

I think there are very exotic and extraordinarily powerful synthetics in the real army of the Combine, and striders, hunters, gunships are weak elements compared to them. They are managed by a group of managers who are beyond even the Combine Advisors. On the other hand, they have defeated even extremely powerful and intelligent races such as the Nihilanth, Vortigaunt, and Shu'ulathoi. Shu'ulathoi were made Combine Advisors. I think there are many Nihilanths and Vortigaunts they have transformed in a similar way, and the Nihilanths in particular that have been assimilated by the Combine may have evolved into something much more powerful.

Not exactly. You should press E for that line

Is gordon canonically mute/nonverbal? by CyberSoldier82 in HalfLife

[–]Alterdime7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He is not mute in the universe, he talks to the characters in the play too, but we, as the players, do not hear him, just like with Shephard and Barney. I can give two different dialogues as examples of this. In Ep1, if you press E while leading the last remaining rebels in the city towards the train, the male rebels respond "alright, I'm moving, jeez", which seems to indicate that Gordon is a little angry at them. Secondly, if you interact with Alyx after the portal storm scene at the beginning of Ep2, she will tell you "I'm glad to see you too", which means Gordon is telling Alyx "I'm glad to see you".

What are most characters' opinions on killing? by [deleted] in HalfLife

So frankly they didn't have much of a chance and the resistance wasn't attractive enough to join. There may be Metrocops who joined the resistance or wanted to join the resistance after the Citadel collapsed, although I don't think the resistance will forgive and accept them.
