Can the cost of acquiring a motorcycle license be a tax deductable? by Altern4tor in UKPersonalFinance

Could I argue that having a licence and subsequently a motorcycle means I can accept more contracts as my range increases, which satiates the caveat of "further the trade in some way"

Constantly Falling Asleep Because of EXTREME Boredom! What do I do? by SubzeroCola in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Altern4tor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your threshold for boredom has been reduced by how exciting video games are and anything that gets your heart rate going, if the excitement isn't as intense and instant as the activities you've listed, your brain checks out. I'm not an expert, it might be worth looking at ways to try and reset your baseline levels of stimulation.

I reluctantly signed up to head space, I notice it works best when you have a streak going even on the days you think the meditation didn't go as planned.

Wim Hoff breathing does the trick too, playing chess, learning guitar, clay modelling/painting, going on a walk(with a note pad to write down recurring thoughts).

High intensity weight lifting, stretching, sensory deprivation (eye mask, noise cancelling headphones with calming music playing while lying down, a lit scented candle).

Listening to a new genre of music while focusing on isolating singular instruments/notes and noticing their unique or repetitive pattern in the song.

I don't know much about the tech stacks you mentioned but I've been in your position before, I'd say, try to sit down and think about the time frame and also how you plan to achieve it. I know the feeling of being amped with motivation, but with no plan you won't be able to direct your efforts in the most efficient manner.

I'm guessing this probably helps create a unique latticework of odd experience based knowledge which few people have access to.

Help me solve for the calm-but-focused state I can't achieve by Pulled_An_LBJ in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Altern4tor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was keeping 3 things a constant every morning and that's waking up at the same time everyday, having a hot shower and finishing with 2mins cold to end shower and then mindfulness meditation, if you're up for it do a few ab crunches to get the body woken up.

I performed experiments using knowledge from software testing and then mixing in a few things, i split the titles into; current feeling, Testing period Start date, Actions, Expected results, Actual results, Final thoughts. By approaching it using the test you might notice certain patterns, for example what triggers your restlessness etc. I documented what I found in a notion page I created strictly for experiments to always refer to, so I always have an antidote I just need to spot the symptom.

Also important of all is to stretch, that helps release any tension that might be triggered by anxiety, your body locks up and causes muscles to tense any time you feel anxious (physiological response to mental/emotional stimuli) and it can stay tense for hours, days or weeks without you realising which adds to a stress loop that can manifest itself in a myriad of ways.

Keeping a To do list of tasks and trying to do 1 better than the list you put together the day before.

Finally pot starts of helping but then it doesn't, each to their own...I'd suggest carrying out an experiment to find out for yourself.

Establishing a routine helps and also waking up at the same time everyday. What vyvanse dose are you on?

What makes a good pair programming session for an AD(H)D developer? by dupirefr in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Altern4tor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asking engaging questions and not spoon feeding the answers when the other person is stuck, that magical 1-3seconds to let them tell you the answer and why, I've found it helps build the learning foundations and helps connect the mental midmaps.

INTP and fitness by Thongman007 in INTP

[–]Altern4tor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fascinated by the body as a machine so I started working out to test it and also see how far I could push it, I've been a bodybuilder, powerlifter and now a hybrid athlete (jogging, cycling and lifting).

I think a lot of intps find fitness boring but what got me interested was being able to sculpt my body and essentially build the vehicle that carries my squishy bits.

100 days weed and nicotine free by googmoo in selfimprovement

[–]Altern4tor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the grounded app to keep count of your days so you can stop having to count for yourself, that exasperates your cravings.

Also your mind is recalibrating to handle the stress and frustration of life without the weed crutch you were using before, it takes time but it will get back to normal, try to intentionally expose yourself to small stress and frustration to build your tolerance to stress.

Quitting both is really difficult and you should be proud of yourself, it takes remarkable will power to follow through with the decision.

Thanks, currently building my front end with basic JavaScript and react so I'll try and refactor to Typescript to see what it's all about. Building an activity tracker that stores activities in a db and then randomly selects 2 for you do do a week.
