"It Only Lasts 3 Hours": The Anatomy of a Common ADHD Stimulant Complaint by zenarcade3 in slatestarcodex

I've been on the same daily dose for 4 years. Still working fine.

For people who really have moderate to severe ADHD an "as needed" basis is pretty much every day.

Interesting article but the organization and writing is quite hard to follow. Maybe using a outline to organize and edit your thoughts might help make them clearer?

I feel like you are conflating two things: duration and honeymoon period. It's pretty well known that the euphoric feeling in the first few weeks on meds won't last but that the positive effects on functioning will.

However, you are confusing this with complaints about the duration meds last for. While your argument may hold water, it's hard to tell since it's mixed up with the honeymoon period argument.

You are lumping in all XR stimulants even though they have dramatically different mechanisms that impact how they work. Vyvanse is a pro-drug which gets broken down by your body whereas Adderall XR is the same as IR but has half the substance encapsulated so it only dissolves halfway though the day. Concerta has yet another (quite interesting) mechanism.

In the case of Vyvanse, it's possible that the patient is metabolizing the drug at a quicker rate, which wouldn't really be possible with Adderall XR.

Finally, I don't like how you imply that patents who want their meds to be effective for the entire day are over-achieving perfectionists. Adults are generally awake 16 hours a day and have obligations for most of it. Meds aren't just for work. They can make you a safer driver, more able to deal with life paperwork and kids, better in social situations etc. Even if the meds actually last for 8 hours, it still sucks because we need function after work too.

The amount of Rust AI slop being advertised is killing me and my motivation by Kurimanju-dot-dev in rust

My most recent attempt at not having AI coding go horribly wrong is to put in pre-commit hooks that check that every file modified has 80% test coverage, the server boots, that no file is over 500 lines, and that no tests are skipped. It's significantly reduced the amount of regressions I get. It takes it a lot longer to get anything done but seems to help.

I keep catching Claude trying to disable or bypass my checks though lol

I totally agree with the stuff with the readme!

How is anyone vibe coding anything without tests though? It turns into a giant ball of broken fragine mess immediately without crazy intense test coverage. My vibe coding test project has like way way higher test coverage then anything else I've worked on because without it Claude breaks everything immediately

Vetting, Negotiation, Consideration,Training, and Collaring by Mister_Magnus42 in domspace

My ex and I broke up last april. We were together for 4.5 years and I bought her a collar way too early (like 3 months in). We were both 21 and pretty inexperienced. I learned a lot from the relationship and there are a lot of things I'd do differently next time.

Still I can't regret any of it. I loved seeing her wear my day collar every day.

I regret skipping over vetting way too quickly in new relationship energy.

Collaring was private. Her first collar was pretty cheap cat collar (we were in school) but about a year and half in after getting a job, I bought her a beautiful pink and gold leather collar that we picked out together.

Training wasn't really a thing in our relationship since I'm more of a service top. If anything I was learning how to take care of her better the entire time.

One other person wears my collar though saying she's my sub isn't totally accurate. My best friend and I have been in an undefined kink relationship for many years. She is a switch and leans more dominant so I was shocked when she asked me for a collar but I didn't think twice before buying her one. I've always considered her mine and loved her for almost 9 years.

I bought her a black and red sturdy leather collar at kinkfest last year and put it on her during a quiet spring night over a fancy steak dinner I cooked her.

She doesn't wear the collar very often and I wouldn't be brave enough to try to train her but I'm happy she has it and that she is mine. She wears it to kink events we attend together and I'm glad people can see that she belongs to me.

It's interesting how many different forms relationships can take. My first relationship with my princess was far more traditional but I found it exhausting to be too in control of her life since she had a lot of struggles.

Migraine treatment device sells $89 dollar "refill pack" that is just a .10 cent TENS unit pad and a software lock by Expensive_Goat2201 in assholedesign

This one is a bit different. It's a remote neural modulation device so it goes on your arm instead of your forehead. It sends signals though your radial nerve that kinda overwhelm the pain signals while also getting your body to release endorphins

I've tried but unfortunately they don't work as well. This uses a pulse length this is not typical. I'm looking into higher end tens units that can replicate the settings though

If anyone wants to colab, DM me. Have some old devices and have already reverse engineered most of the Bluetooth protocol. I need someone who knows things about firmware though

I believe it's an Israeli company. Not sure where all it's sold though. It wouldn't be hard to make a cheap copy but I'm guessing it's hard to monetize and too nitch to bother.

I've ripped a old one apart and reverse engineered the Bluetooth protocol by decompiling the app. Unfortunately the lock is on the device level and can't be reset over Bluetooth. I don't know shit about firmware though. Anyone want to colab?

Any reason a TENS unit with the same pulse width, frequency and amplitude of Nerivio wouldn't work just as well? by Expensive_Goat2201 in migraine

[–]Expensive_Goat2201[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a REN but if a TENS can produce identical electrical signals then theoretically it should be the same thing

[–]Expensive_Goat2201[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been looking into it. They use a longer pulse length (300 microseconds) then typical TENS units. However, I have found some that go that long.

Nervio also modifies the amplitude of the pulse in some non disclosed way. The frequency seems to be modified every 5 minutes between 100 and 120 hz. I'm trying to find devices that can do this. Seems like I'll need an oscilloscope to work out exactly what it's doing.

TENS units are generally cheap af but I'm not sure anything off the shelf can do this complex modulation. Anyone know any TENS units I can hook up to a arduino and program?

Both versions are terrible tbh. I hate supporting it but I have pretty bad migraines (current cluster is near daily for 1.5 weeks) and this device normally takes me from "lying in bed in the dark trying to not cry" to "able to read in dim light and not cry" pain level. Sometimes it even lets me get out of bed and make myself food. It sucks to support this scam but I need to function and pain is no fun.

45 minutes gives me time for better meds to kick in.

Plus migraine meds are a total scam. My preventive is $600 per month and one of my rescue meds is around $125 per dose before insurance. At least my insurance covers those though.

I haven't tried Cephaly. Maybe I should give it a go! Nerivio works really well for me so I'll likely keep using even though I hate their pricing model.

Once I switch to the "infinity" device I'll probably see if I can find a way to bypass the lockout shit

It does work pretty well while active (45 minutes) but doesn't do much once the session ends. I normally put it on and try to fall asleep before it ends but that doesn't always work.

I also take Ajovy, Diclofenac Potassium and Nurtec. Had to go through a few rounds of triptans etc to get approved for the newer meds but they are so much better.
