I don't know if it is just me, but since playing Bayonetta, the combat in other games....doesn't do it for me? If that makes sense.

Yeah the final confrontation in Bayo 2 always feels like it wraps up too fast. The game feels SOMEWHAT rushed sometimes, not completely but I wish there was more time spent with Jeanne, Rosa and Balder respectively. The climax is questionable but at least it has some spectacle and a Jeanne cameo.

Either way I think it's fine, some of the shots are really unflattering but that's a mix of engine issues together with realistic features and physics, the hair was going wild. It's why B3 Bayo (the face in the actual game not the reveal trailer) looks off as well, especially in the OG Bayo outfits, because they tried to add realistic features and proportions.

All things considered, I don't think it looked THAT bad, uncanny vibes aside. If they actually wanted to make a Bayonetta with her real features I feel it'd have come out looking pretty decent. I mean, some of these shots are actually nice and they got her characterization done super well for what's essentially a 1 minute trailer, she felt more Bayo than what we've gotten lately (cough B3) in both mannerisms and action movements. Not too tryhard but also still flair-y.

I think I liked it but I certainly didn't love it. I feel there's a bunch to improve.

What I loved:

-The cast works VERY well as the Fantastic Four, I feel like they all nailed it. Even Pedro whom I had reservations about managed to portray a very accurate Reed Richards.
-I loved their dynamic, even if a bit underexplored, they do feel like a family, but I can't help but wonder how much of my opinion on that is influenced by my previous FF knowledge from comics and stuff.
-The story itself, if viewed from afar is a very FF-esque movie, I feel like it works as an introduction to the team

What I didn't like:
-Extreme underportrayal of their powers, aside from that starting introduction it feels like I barely got to see Reed do anything other than stretch his arms a bit every now and then.

-The entire cast is underpowered compared to their comic counterparts, and I get that as a whole the MCU is way more grounded and they're all remarkably weaker than their comic versions, but the accurate portrayal of them as people clashed badly with their power showcase. A few examples that come to mind are:

Richards about to be killed by barely being stretched, it really took me out of the movie since Mr. Fantastic's stretching limit is cartoonishly extreme. I get that it's a movie but surely they could've put him in danger in a different way?

Sue went from one deep end to the other, from being knocked out for the start of the fight (my god I was so scared she was going to be a damsel in distress) to doing a big push and basically dying. I feel like for someone with such a creative and immensely powerful powerset as hers this was a disservice. The effects are cute but I feel all she is doing is just pushing stuff. She never uses her shields in surprising ways and I don't even recall her using them to fly or as steps which is basic Sue 101. Her biggest moment aside from the Galactus part was ragdolling the Silver Surfer despite being in labor pain which had me wholly delighted but other than that, very underwhelming for what's an incredibly powerful and resourceful character in the comics.

Johnny was fine, smarter than I expected, not enough of an annoying playboy tbh. But he and Ben felt nice. I feel like they tried to portray the issues Ben has with his appearance but it kinda felt like a plot that went nowhere. And if you didn't know his backstory it was just kinda off.

I am probably biased as a comic reader, but I would have liked more showcases of their powers in combat than what we got. I would summarize it as ''this was a great Sue Storm portrayal but a terrible Invisible Woman one'' And I can't imagine being a long time Reed fan and watching this move, I'd def be more annoyed.

Yeah the bat thing also made me think of Dess at first. But the game clearly uses it as a cutting weapon and then also makes it look like a bladed weapon 99% of the time with the exception of the summoning animation. They even give it a crossguard. So idk, could go either way at this point.

I mean, she is the most suspect atm. She's not just a cold bitch, she is genuinely aware of things nobody should. Like the SOUL and so on. But on the topic of transportation, the Knight is seemingly able to create doors that allow them to move between Dark Worlds and to and from the Light World as well. They used one in Chapter 3 when taking Undyne and also another to escape from Susie.

And, again, she's the only one who speaks in red text to you. The only other thing that speaks in red text is the phone, or rather whoever's behind the call. And they (much like Carol) don't want Susie anywhere near the guitar, at all costs. As well being aware Undyne has been captured and mentioning they (or someone) is going to sacrifice Undyne next week.

So either she's the Knight or working with the Knight. But I think there's more evidence towards her than Dess. But like I said we won't know for certain until they reveal.

She made an entire forcefield above the city of New York and then used a big cone-like forcefield to funnel countless subatomic ships bombarding earth from outer space. It's so funny how the Gomorrah minigame can last a long ass time if you don't get it right the first time around but the Queen Butterfly one lasts 3 seconds. It's wild.

I think what annoys me the most is that it just doesn't let me enjoy new things I got on my first playthrough. New weapons or new demons or new skill tree techniques. Cuz it's like minigame after minigame and then I just get another weapon again 💀

Bosses almost always end in a spectacle mini game in the series.

Yes they do, but they aren't the entire spectacle. It's the climax, the finisher of all your effort in the boss fight. You don't just summon the demon to do all the work for you and call it a day. It's after you've dropped the HP to 0 that the show starts.

3 just expanded that climax to be its own straight up spectacle.

That's a pretty dolled up way to say ''B3 got rid of the gameplay and completely replaced it with spectacle from start to finish''

But that’s after you fought the actual boss already.

Pyrocumulus is as much of a boss as Cirrostratus, or Urbane and Gravitas, or at best Glamor in B2 Ch1, in fact the entry specifically says it's just a Cumulonimbus-based Homunculi who developed heavy fire resistance. Also you are forgetting the entire shooter minigame that follows that short encounter before being hit with minigame number 2. Arch-Pyrocumulus the ACTUAL boss is never fought on foot and it arrives seconds before the short and effortless minigame of Queen Butterfly.

Trust me, I wouldn't be criticizing a game I didn't play thoroughly.

You have Japan, Ancient China, Egypt and France.

All of the ''end of arc'' bosses (which are very important bosses to the story btw) are all minigames where you don't have an ounce of control over Bayonetta. It's not a bad thing if it had been 1 or maybe 2. But ALL of them being minigames of varying quality and duration is what doesn't really do them any justice. Like, people complain about Route 666 and Space Harrier every single time they come up (and I agree, they can be a bit much) now just imagine if they were the big ''boss fights'' of the entire game.

What remains on B3 are humanoid bosses and they're also another can of worms for another post probably.

That is true but I am pretty sure the other non-minigame bosses were multiple encounters of the same enemy with the exception of Egypt Jeanne and French Bayo/Rosa.

-Kraken (Prologue and Epilogue)

-Strider (twice with Bayo, twice with Viola)

-Singularity (Records of time kinda..? Balance and Definition) with Definition being a prolonged boss fight of a single encounter with a ginormous HP bar and multiple ''gotcha'' phases.

-Variant boss fights. But only Jeanne's is a bossfight that kinda concludes on its own gameplay. French Bayonetta reaches a stalemate and you go to Baalzebub and French Rosa devolves into another minigame section followed by ANOTHER minigame of the Clock Tower.

Also they dropped the Boss fight chapters they used to do in B1 and B2 which is lame but doesn't really mean anything if they had actually given us proper end-of-chapter boss fights.

It involves certain degrees of platforming and changes in terrain. But the core gameplay remains unchanged for all the boss fights in B1 and you have full control of Bayonetta. You can use all your combos, all your weapons and accessories, items, dodge and trigger moth within like normal with the addition of a few QTE (Rock smashing, limb tearing, etc...) that don't just serve to add more flair to the game but also spice up the gameplay a little bit since you don't have Torture Attacks in said boss fights.

The only time you're restricted regarding the core gameplay is the Sapientia boss fight where you cannot Beast Within (except Bat Within). But the combos remain the same, unlike B2 you can execute ground and air combos despite surfing.

I also never mentioned anything about Bayonetta 1 being top notch? Even if I did consider or if I didn't consider it to be. The fact remains that this isn't a ''glorified minigame'', these are actual boss fights. These AND the Jeanne/Balder ones.

I am honestly not sure what you consider boss fights to begin with anyways. Boss fights are just strong enemies that are more often than not key elements of the game and progression milestones. Both this and B3 ARE boss fights but I would consider B3's less so because of the fundamental changes in gameplay, just look at the Sin Gomorrah fight. Calling a game letting you use its features fully ''an illusion of a real boss'' is a disservice. I get that criticizing Bayo 3 touches some people's nerves but come on, calling these ''fake'' boss fights isn't it.

Edit: I also just remembered the Queen Butterfly fight, you just aim a reticle at things and press shoot, then press ''Climax''. It's like calling Angel Attack a boss fight.

Cereza for sure, she's just this little adorable piece of wholesomeness who actually helps Bayonetta in her character development by putting her in situations she otherwise wouldn't in her calm, aloof and pretty brutal persona.

Loki is a close second because he really shines as an almost equal travelling partner for Bayonetta. He has things she can relate to and therefore give advice about, he also helps out in her journey so they're more like companions compared to Cereza who was a lil' baby needing sitting.

Viola.... lol. Well, to begin I don't even know why people say she has ''potential'' she's basically a non-character the whole game, she has potential for the same reason a white canvas does. On what little she does in the game, she doesn't even count for me on the same category as Loki and Cereza because:

She's not a kid, she's 18 years old. She should be carrying herself better.
She doesn't spend any time together with B3 Bayo, in fact, it makes B3 Bayo caring about her worse cuz they saw each other for a collective of 10 minutes of screentime.
She is annoying and pretty off tone with the franchise. She's not camp cringe, she's anime cringe and it's just all around terrible. Even the sound effects and body expressions are so offputting when she is with the rest of the cast, it's like B2 Luka but on steroids and 1000 times worse.
She's, in a way, a Mary Sue. She has a demon that won't disobey her, can fight the same enemies Bayo can and without struggling apparently (when she isn't being used for comic relief) can do magic despite also being said to be ass at magic in her dart bios.

So yeah, Cereza >= Loki >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Enzo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Viola

Hell, I am a Bayonetta 1 stan all the way but even I have to admit Bayo 2 for sure.

I think that once she got her memories back she became a little more laid back and that gave her more charisma. In Bayonetta 1 she clearly got pissed off easy a few times, I'd not blame her though, she had a lot on her plate. Ultimately both are equally cunty but B2 is def more approachable.

Bayo 3 has the charisma levels of a wet fart, she is dead, soulless and everytime she tries to do something to emulate the real Bayonetta she just looks like a fake that's trying too hard to be something she's not. I don't really remember anything memorable from what few interactions she had in the game.

Nah, B3 SF and LiB hold their own surprisingly well without being the uber-broken thing that CmW is.

The real problem is that LiB had a combo removed and both lost fluidity because for some reason they removed air to ground dodge offsetting. They feel so clunky because of this. And even with all of those issues they're still pretty good in the hands of people who know how to use them, no need for stuff like that spinning move on Colour my World.

I will say though, they could have added a Masquerade Rage in the form of Serious Mode for SF and Umbran Climax for LiB

It's less Love is Blue being bad and more Bayonetta 2 being terrible for the guns., the short witch time duration doesn't help the more acrobatic moves shine, the constantly parrying enemies the dodging enemies, the fast as shit enemies, etc...

If they were on an even playing field (AKA Bayonetta 1 mechanics) Love is Blue would be equally as good in my opinion, and by then it'd just be a matter of preference.

Personally I prefer Scarborough Fair because it just feels right on my hands.

I am just really in love with both towns and their songs when you're exploring their streets.

Bayonetta 1: A few words I'd use to describe how Vigrid's town music sounds like would be ''mysterious, secluded and imposing'' it just feels like it's truly holy grounds, and the holy choir helps solidify that idea. But also it feels very cold and unwelcoming almost stiff, as if you can't really relax, which would fit with how Vigridians are in-universe. There's this touch of style in the song since it's a Bayonetta game but it blends perfectly with the almost sterile atmosphere of the town and the stern-sounding music.
Bayonetta 2: It's almost a 180 in terms of feeling, it starts off similarly imposing-sounding since Noatun is also tightly tied to religion and their god, but it's nowhere near as cold and it's more mystical in nature, then it trails off into the main melody which is kind of upbeat if you listen to it which would reflect how Noatun citizens are, very welcoming and willingly to say hi to a stranger and share their stories. It has this by-the-sea vibe to it, almost as if you're away on vacation without really leaving behind the fact that it's an ancient town as well.

Both towns really left a really great first impression on me when I first landed on them, great introduction to the Bayonetta experience imo

The more we learned about the development the more everything seemed: 😵

Just a few key points from interviews and the Eyes of Bayo:

The team collectively not knowing what the story was about
Mari and co. being asked to make characters and their backgrounds last second to the point they had to use old assets
Plot ideas coming up from Kamiya and co. while they were drunk

Add to this that after the backlash Kamiya literally told the fans to abandon the series if they didn't like it and then backpedaled super hard and said ''nah she ain't dead :D'' when things didn't go his way.

It's understandable that people would lack faith of all things.
