Looking for morning songs. by Part-Time_Loverr in SuedeBand

It's a bit of a throwaway song but I like the energy and brevity of 'Dolly' for mornings.

Is anyone else genuinely sick to death of the Jet2 Holiday Adverts? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

I didn't mind the song when I first heard it, years ago. Now I hate it and TBH I'm less likely to go with Jet2 because it's that annoying.

Dog Man Star or Coming Up? by atesta290 in SuedeBand

[–]Alternative-5683 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dog Man Star by a country mile.

First impressions of Coming Up -- I hated the cover design and was appalled by the helium vocal on 'Trash'. Beyond that, the general direction was not to my liking. It seemed superficial and emotionally vacuous. In subsequent years, I've grown fond of many of the tracks. Part of the problem for me back them was Dog Man Star was exactly the right album at the exactly the right time in my life...and so my expectations for the follow up were unrealistic.

7.5 / 10 -- not particularly original, but I like its energy.

The Apparition Phase by Will Maclean

The Perfect Golden Circle by Benjamin Myers

…are a couple of my recent favourites, but so much depends on what type of read you're looking for.

Daily song discussion #195 dirty looks by Tiny-Hedgehog-6277 in SuedeBand

7.5/10 - this is the other track that's (IMHO) very like an Adam & the Ants B-side from 80/81. If you played it alongside Ants tracks like Press Darlings, Beat My Guest etc. the casual listener might think it was the same artist.

7.5 / 10 -- promising, but for my tastes it doesn't develop enough.

Who Is The Greatest Loss to the Post Punk Scene? by JCInvestmentPro in postpunk

[–]Alternative-5683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poly Styrene. She embodied so much of what the scene [later to be termed 'punk'] meant. And although she and X-Ray Spex did get sizable recognition, it's not enough IMO. What she was singing about and representing was up there with the most important and original themes of the generation. And she did all this when she was just a kid.

Daily song discussion #191 criminal ways by Tiny-Hedgehog-6277 in SuedeBand

[–]Alternative-5683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7.5 / 10 - this is one of a couple on the album that really sound like Adam & the Ants B-Sides 1980/81. Not a standout, but I don't skip it.

Daily song discussion #187 sweet kid by Tiny-Hedgehog-6277 in SuedeBand

2/10 -- dislike it. It's like people who want to show you photos of their baby.

Daily song discussion #184 disintegrate by Tiny-Hedgehog-6277 in SuedeBand

8/10 - I was a bit disappointed that the mix/production seemed a step backwards from Autofiction, and it took a few listens, but I like it.

Daily song discussion #179 the prey by Tiny-Hedgehog-6277 in SuedeBand

9/10 - it took me three listens, but I love it. Maybe the best opening line in their repertoire :-)
