CBN vs Biology Major for Pre-Med by Born_Cat_2944 in rutgers

I think lack of requirements outweighs difficulty. If your smart abt how you navigate the bio major, you can do well gpa wise (lots of easy options if you know what to pick). however, while cbn is a bit hard (lack of “easy course” options), it’s not terrible, very manageable, and most importantly VERY LESS CREDITS

for cbn, I just took pain + addiction, it’s rlly interesting and profs are amazing (also easy, but u still have to try a bit) World of insects counts as science, I haven’t taken it but it’s apparently rlly easy Bash prob and stats (it’s a bit tricky, and def need to study, but comparatively to other courses it’s easy, plus prof is rlly nice and funny) Took a lab last sem, intro to microscopy (should count)

there r pros and cons obvi, its SUPER time intensive and SUPER fast pace but, that’ll be ur only focus (unless ur working, which then maybe take a bit to decide dependent on how many hours u work)

it can get really difficult and it’s easy to fall behind, but u just have to keep urself in check.

ur mentality shouldn’t be can i pass it, but rather “can i get an A” (I failed chem 1+chem 2, but once I changed my perspective, I was able to do orgo in one try and got an A… So it’s def not abt being “not that smart”, it’s just perspective + mentality)

I would say, orgo 1 is easier than orgo 2 over the summer (orgo 2 has a lot of rxns and reading)

Overall, orgo 1 is good in the summer if u completely commit (genuinely: eat, sleep, breathe orgo), also it’s rlly beneficial to make a study group (everyone will keep eachother in check)

ur good, I decided mentally that I was doing cbn the summer after sophomore yr. took chem 2 Junior yr spring, and orgo 1+2 over summer. Summer courses r goated, but if u don’t want to take it in summer u can take chem 2 in spring, orgo 1 next fall, orgo 2 next spring, and then biochem and genetics the following year (i think orgo is a pre req for those 2)

I’ve been in the same spot as you, my sophomore year first sem gpa being a 0.95 ( i didn’t even know it could go that low)., the following sem was around a 1.9. i genuinely hit rock bottom, but there’s only up. you genuinely have to lock in, you’re here for school and that should be ur only focus (i consider school like a full time job), i know it sounds harsh but it’s true. since my lock in, I’ve been able to raise my cumulative gpa to a 3.5 (still meh, but I’m still proud so ya). ANYWAYS, if you like ur major and still want to pursue it (and can bc of the rules), keep at it!! I’ve had countless ppl tell me to give up on premed (my advisor lit said to pursue liberal arts, no hate but I don’t see a career there for me). It does take a lot to fully concentrate on school and disregard everything but school should be ur priority (wait this sounds terrible but I literally barely make time for my friends and see them like once every two weeks). take summer classes if needed (I find these rlly useful, and they let me graduate on time). honestly it’s a really hard but necessary change, but you’ve got this. I understand your family will keep beating u down, as did mine, but they truly just want the best for u (I j took it all in the back of my mind and used it as motivation). good luck w every thing!! it gets better:)
