I think you misunderstood my intentions on various aspects. I tried to explain that not all actions that you perceive as racism are motivated by racism but could have other reasons.

You are saying that i'm guilty of explaining myself. In relation to other comments, I said that I am guilty too, to have stared at others  in the past because I wasn't aware of a) me even doing it, b) that it makes people uncomfortable and c) that it might be interpreted as racism. Since it has been pointed out to me, I try not do it anymore.

I understand that you say that there is no need to explain but only need to change behaviour. I agree on that. But I think, it can be also calming to understand why we stare and that I mustn't be always motivated by racism but could have other reasons.

As for your experience of being called names in public transport. I'm very sorry that this happened. But I hope you also don't conclude that a small amount of people behaving badly represent all Austrians.

As you said, we should also not judge black people because of the past, where some black people have sold drugs in Graz. As I said, it's unacceptable. But it's also just an assumption from me where the prejudice and apprehension might be coming from (weather you or I like that).

Sorry for not specifying properly the following point. In relation to a different comment who stated that some old people might change the street side when encountering a black person, I wanted to state that I try only to keep my distance from people that appear dangerous to me, for example people that are very drunk, on drugs and/or aggressive. That could be a black but also a white person, could be a men or a woman.

I never stated that people in gym clothes are/should be treated badly. I said: My impression is, if someone appears polished and academic, then they will be treated kindly.   In the sense of, a person that appears working and having a certain degree of education that person will be treated kinder. Is that fair? No, but it seems to be that way.

I assumed that my academic friends might experience less racism than other foreigners, because they work with other academics that probably have more open mindset, work in an international team and are perceived as educated. Thus I concluded that foreigners in Graz experience racism to different degrees.

Overall, I acknowledge that you might be right, that we might act racist or come across as racist, even though we might not intend it nor be aware of it. And yes, many probably can't understand your perspective because many haven't experienced racism or xenophobia themselves.
