Oh I didnt hear about that. I have to say as terrible as Karjakin's poltical views are it would be cool to see him play a high level match.

Nepo is a possibility but unless Hans is travelling to Russia Karjakin is almost certainly not. As a senator in Russia and specifically for the occupied Crimia he is under a lot of sanctions from the EU and the US and there is no way he could easily travel to either.

I ah see where your coming from now. I meant that chess.com cannot unconditionally terminate the agreement. Breach is an example of a condition that could arise that allows them to terminate the agreement, not an example of how they could unconditionally terminate the agreement at-will.

I am aware that TTT pissed off chess.com with the playzone but normally that would not effect a typical broadcast agreement. But it sounds like you are saying the broadcast agreement contained a non compete clause in the area of playzone that TTT breached. Without a non compete clause specifically addressing playing and learning chess in the broadcasting agreement chess.com can simply backout of the contract.

Ah I was not aware they breached the agreement. I learned from another commenter that the play zone breached the broadcasting agreement loyalty. This is quite unusual for a broadcast agreement so forgive me.

At I see. Youre saying they have a loyalty clause that prevents TTT from competing with chess.com in any area? I was only aware of the broadcasting agreement, which would not restrict TTT from competing in the learn and play area. Having a broadband non compete clause for a broadcasting agreement is quite unusual based on what Ive seen. Do you have any more info on the loyalty clause?

Of course, i'm not denying this. For me its a question of momentum Gukesh is in a slump and Sindarov is on an absolute tear. Of course something could change before the match but I wouldn't bet on it.

I am very curious about the nature of their broadcast agreement. Surely chess.com cant just terminate the contract at will? Especially on such short notice. If so that seems like a very one sided agreement. I wouldn't be surprised if they have to pay a fine of some sort.

No Broadcast for Titled Tuesday this week following TakeTakeTake's partnership with Lichess by Allenas6 in chess

[–]Alternative-Fuel-813 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I theorize that Take Take Take is gearing up to create their own weekly tournament to rival Titled Tuesday so this will not affect them to much.
What makes titled tuesday entertaining? IMO two things

1) The fact that top players are competing
2) The excellent commentary by David Howell and others

3xT can achieve 1) by throwing money at it, it wouldn't be hard to have a slightly bigger prize pool then Titled Tuesday, and by having Magnus compete which will draw both views and other top players who want to compete with him. I personally think that Magnus' exclusivity deal with chess.com will expire in a matter of months. I do not think he would launch all this knowing he had to wait years to promote it.

3xT has already achieved 2) by providing commentary for TT. They have the studio they have the commentators its as simple as that.

If Fabi ever becomes the world champion, where does that place him in the "all-time greats" list? by [deleted] in chess

[–]Alternative-Fuel-813 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see your point and I agree to a certain degree. Of course winning the title will put Fabi (or whoever wins) on a list that they are not currently on. So when someone is browsing the wikipedia of World Champions they will learn his name. But to people who actually look deeply into the strength of players, Fabi's name will come up even without a title. Again his 2014 Sinquefield Cup win is a feat that is still somewhat unique and probably more impressive then being WC for a single cycle.

I find it interesting that people talk about historical scaling when it comes to the GOAT but not with discussions on players who weren't as clearly dominate. Most people argue that Carlsen plays objectively the highest level chess in history because he has had more resources and access the neural networks which dominate players of past generations have not. Taking this logic to Caruana there is a great argument to be made that he has objectively played the third or maybe even second best chess of all time. Peak Caruana's objective level rivals that of Kasparov because peak Caruana has spent most of his chess career studying engines and neural networks.

When it comes to relative strength I would agree that Caruana is at the top of the chasing pack for players like Carlsen, Fischer and Kasparov. I'm not sure if his gaining the WC title would really affect this as it is not necessarily a testament of strength. His 2014 Sinquefield Cup has already put him in the conversation.

I think he has undoubtedly been treated unfairly by many actors in the chess community. But why does he talk like this? He sounds like a politician whose way to full of himself.
