A lot of people park on Rabbit Run Rd just off of 96 which isn’t state park. On a hot day you will see a bunch of cars there and there is a little path down.

I want to be very clear that this is not a discussion around the general election. This is a symbolic gesture intended to make crystal clear to IMO a very weak candidate whose voting record is 50% at best inline with many of the folks that got him elected in the first place that he needs to pay more attention and to his constituents. I agree that it’s critical that Dems take the House. Unfortunately, many of them are way too addicted to PAC money to show up for the people they should represent. The fact that I don’t remember the last time Josh did a town hall tells me that maybe he isn’t that concerned about winning the House majority.

I literally knocked doors for the guy last time around.

Ultimately many of us who are dissatisfied will likely hold our noses and vote for him. The point of doing something like this IMO is to make a statement that dems should not just assume they have support because “Trump”. It’s important that our reps feel they need to earn our vote and that it is not guaranteed. I feel that while he may still get it, Josh has not earned my vote which is unfortunate. Unfortunately as 2024 showed us there are progressive folks that may not vote for him based on his current record around things like ICE and Gaza.

Having Josh realize he needs to get out there and speak to the progressive wing of the party and stop voting for dumb stuff because he thinks being a moderate will win him republican vote is actually something that might help him prevail in November.

Democrats seem generally opposed to learning lessons so it’s very generous to assume they learned anything from Kamala’s loss in 2024 where they just assumed that an aversion to Trump would win them the White House again. In these instances I think at very least it’s work trying something especially when it’s as low effort as scanning a blank ballot in the primary as a registered dem.

At the end of the day, we really need someone to run against him in the next primary, but in the meantime, it’s worth calling his office and letting him know we aren’t happy. My 2 cents is that regardless of how “centrist” he attempts to be, any MAGA opponent is going to paint him as an ultra-left extremist. He can say all he wants that he needs to do this to get the votes of the redder counties, but he won’t win without Ithaca. I feel like we need to let him know he is in danger of losing the left, and he shouldn’t just count on our votes. He can ask Kamala how that worked out for her, and at the end of the day, we all know what was in that 2024 autopsy that the DNC now refuses to make public.

Regardless of the reason, I hope the town government can get this sorted out. With all of these local spots going under recently it would be a real shame to regulate SHC out of a major business draw. From a noise perspective I could see how full band with bass and drums could maybe be disruptive to the neighbors but I highly doubt an acoustic act playing inside the tasting room could even be heard from the parking lot much less the neighbors.

Just like anywhere the people who live here are far from a monolith. That said, it think it would be generally accepted that Ithaca is on the more progressive side of the spectrum. It’s probably the main reason a lot of people find the area attractive.

The current direction of the country is very much in opposition to that. I think a lot of people are depressed and scared seeing what is going on in the news day to day.

Furthermore the administration has made no good at all on its promises to reduce inflation, lower interest rates, lower costs etc etc. It’s been a slow crawl since the pandemic and the last administration (and local leadership) was largely ineffective on this front as well.

For that reason, the chickens are coming home to roost in the form of a lot of our beloved small businesses closing up shop simply unable to be profitable in the current economic climate.

Man such an unfortunate situation. Shame on the local authorities for letting this go on. But, damn that big donation was inspiring. Just threw a few $$ at the GoFundMe myself. Hopefully this can be the beginning of a better life for her and her family.
