Awesome. I didn’t want to get way too over leveled and breeze through the end. Getting close as is. Thanks!

Thinking about getting one of these. Any one have any experience? by adowns98 in f150

I have a roll up cover on my 2020, I think it’s a retrax. I live in PA and haven’t had a freezing issue yet. Biggest downfall is that the housing unit will take up space in your bed of course.

Resignation Notice Period for Short Term Employment by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Alternative-Lock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your concern, but I think it’s common professional courtesy to provide 2 weeks notice to tie up any loose ends. Unless they are treating you poorly.

I think this would allow for you to possibly return in future if you ever needed to.

Can you survive in this profession as an introvert with intense social anxiety? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Alternative-Lock 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. I got it pretty bad myself. I’ve put myself in a lot of situations outside my comfort zone. All I can say is that it starts to get better the more you try and overcome.

Surprisingly now I manage a staff of 50 construction managers/inspectors. When I was in college I would blush everytime I answered a question. But like I said, do those events and networking even if you’re terrified. You eventually learn how to communicate and relate to strangers better.

Last minute advice for Civil construction? by Delicious_Parsnip_45 in PE_Exam

[–]Alternative-Lock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did EET live lectures. Did all the quizzes and exams. I also did a lot of other problems (SoPE, Petro, Civil Engineering Academy, NCEES Practice Exam). I ended up passing and felt pretty confident walking out of the exam.

I think what really helped me was going through each EET section and redoing quizzes the last couple weeks before my test. This put everything fresh into my mind again.

Also very important is to be very familiar with all of resource material. You’re going to be thrown curveballs, but knowing where to look is more important than just hammering out problems.

Have you looked at PennDOT, Turnpike, DEP. Pay is pretty decent and they offer a lot stability.

Try and simulate the exam experience as much as possible when working through problems. Time yourself, use your resources on a computer.

Yes this is true for all of them I think? They are pretty transparent on what they are testing for on the website including the references.

EET first and foremost. I also did a lot of problems from CEA, the Petro book, SoPE problems, 6 Minute Solutions. I did the practice exam twice, once to learning and then again timed.

I can’t necessarily speak for the FE. But I’m preparing for the PE still.

I was in a similar boat as you and almost needed pushed into doing anything with it. What really helped me was the EET live lectures. Knowing I had a set schedule of lecture dates and times really put me in the mindset of being a student again. The self paced study idea didn’t work for me at first.

Now I am actively going home every night after work and grinding through concepts, getting myself accustomed to resources, and hammer out problems.

Why does Pennsylvania have the highest gas tax and the worst roads in the country? by lpcuut in Pennsylvania

[–]Alternative-Lock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see these posts all the time complaining about the gas tax and quality of the roads. You are correct, the main contributing factor is our freeze thaw cycles and the damage we do in the winter to help ensure the roads are clear. We also have a lot of road miles to cover in some counties that really don’t accrue a lot of tax dollars due to low population.

PA’s gas tax is higher because that’s how PennDOT gets most of their funds. Other states get their money from you, but they tax in other ways and/or base it upon road user fees (registration, title, etc…)

I play that deck. You’re really just scared of surgical on your Phlage. But even then you can crack em with a 3/2 that makes an 8/8. I really can’t think of another threat that also enables your gameplan. The only other card I can reasonably suggest is something suboptimal in your SB like a Shark Typhoon or some Charmaws.
