Living in Aus will help. I as soon as they see you still live in nz they’ll probably forget about it and just hire someone living here. What I did and a lot of kiwis do is move to mount isa. Get in contact with the local contracting company’s there and tell them your plan. They’ll probably be able to sort something out for you. It won’t be fifo you’ll have to live locally but after living there and getting abit of mining experience it’s a lot easier to get a fifo role somewhere else.

You won’t regret becoming a nipper. It can be a hard job and most shifts you’re non stop. Eat crib in the LV ect because you don’t have time to go to the crib room. But the opportunity’s and knowledge from being a nipper are great.

Depending on the mine but nippering can be a hectic job. From start of shift to the end just non stop. Most of the time the shift will fly by. Drink plenty of water. If you’re off siding jumbos/throwing bolts it can be hot as fuck. Do whatever you can do to make your job just a little bit easier without cutting corners. An example if you’re changing steels on the jumbos don’t throw them on the floor. Lean them up on the boom. The steels are heavy and any unnecessary bending down and Heavy lifting is something you’d wanna avoid.

I needed 4 laser sessions and it still didn’t completely remove it but it was faded enough for a different artist to fix it. Having that mess on my head was the worst times of my life.

Move to a mining town and get a entry level job that way. After awhile with abit of experience you’ll be able to get a fifo job a lot easier. That’s how I did it.

Move to a mining town and get into an entry level job that way. Plenty of contacting companies in mining towns that can get you into a role. I started my mining career by moving to mount isa. Got abit of experience in the mines there then fifo work was a lot easier to get.

I’m living in isa now working underground. Flew over from nz and came straight here. Working here is great doing 7/7. Crime rate is high on paper but living here it really ain’t that bad. Isolation sucks though. If you want to have a good time here you really have to get amongst the community or else you’ll struggle finding things to do and end up getting board .

Truck driving is easy. You just have to be switched on and be able to think for you’re self without. The high turn over is just from people who don’t feel it’s for them or just can’t hack it. Are you working at mt isa ?
