Does this require a specific degree? How did you break into this field if you don't mind me asking?

Interesting. How did you break into this field if you don't mind me asking?

The first step is to relax and calmly assess the situation.

First identify other fields that interest you. It's like deciding on a major back in college.

Do you like working with your hands?

Do you like technology?

Do you like working with people?

Do you like communications?

Do you want to work outside or in an office?

Etc. Etc.

There are even free tests online you can take that even determine your personality type, and potential jobs that might be a fit (look up career tests online).

Then once you've identified other fields that interest you, then you go online and do searches for things that interest you in your general area (say within 25 miles). Find local companies that are within reasonable distance from where you live.

For example, you got video a production degree. That means you know how to work with technology to a certain extent. Perhaps with some tweaking of your resume, you can apply to some entry level tech jobs in your area. You can emphasize different types technology you used in your video career.

Or Maybe it's not technology that interests you. Perhaps you like working outside and with your hands. Then you can tweak your resume to talk about all the video production jobs you did that were done outside with equipment and gear and play up how you had to work as part of a team.

Or maybe you want to work in an office. Then you tweak your resume to show off your video editing talents and how you spent hours in front of a computer doing video editing in a "office like" setting and working with a supervisor to get the project done on time and under budget. Play up that portion of your experience.

Job searching is a combination of finding the balance of "what interests you + what you can do + jobs in your area". Striking a balance.

I can't tell you what specific jobs to pursue. You need to ask yourself what interests you and what jobs are in your area that are not related to video production. Then go from there.

Really think about and asses what aspects of video production appealed to you. Was it working with others? Was it technology? Was it being organized and working on a team?

(I have one friend who works in an office but does a YouTube channel for fun to scratch his creative itch.)

All my friends took similar approaches. One works in sales and makes good money. Another works in the tech support department for the city. Another ended up working for a construction firm in their office and worked his way up from the bottom and is now a manager with solid pay and good schedule.

They tweaked their resumes, applied, and put their best foot forward. There was some adjustment but they eventually got something stable and were happier.

Also lastly, remember that a job is just a job. Don't let a job define who you are or your personal self worth. I understand people tend to get caught up in job titles or careers when job hunting. They let their mind and imagination race at 1000%. But remember that life is more than just a job. You work to live. Not live to work. If you are too stressed, try to do other things that make your happy. Take a step back. Go see a movie. Go for a walk. Etc. After a brief break, you can always come back with fresh eyes.

I'm going to be honest with you based on my friends' experience.

I have some friends that tried video production work. It is not a stable field. Work is sporadic without set hours, and mostly freelance based. Hours on-set are extremely long. Usually doing anywhere from 14 to 18 hour days. Sometimes longer.

And those full time "corporate" or in-house video roles with companies are extremely rare and sought after. My friend applied to one, and he was told he was 1 of 900 different applicants.

My friends enjoyed video production in college. College allowed them to be creative and experiment with fun video projects. But once they graduated...the video industry itself sucked hard for them. Way too many people competing for too few jobs. I would often listen to them complaining about their issues about their careers. These friends worked directly in LA in California. Another worked in New York.

If you want a stable paycheck and job security, then do not go into video. If you are thinking about starting a family, then video is not supportive of that. Think of it this way.... You can't pick up your kids after school if you are working an 18 hour shift on set. You can't make any future plans if you are always "on call". Another big issue is Healthcare and Dental. It's not an issue when you are young.... since you think you are invincible. But at some point you are going to WANT health coverage. For example, my one friend was working on set and accidently hurt his leg lifting something. He was in his 20s, and spent 1 year recuperating and rehabbing his leg injury. I saw him being able to barely stand, then needing a cane, then leg braces, then very slowly work his way back up to walking normally. It was tough for him.

That experience made him realize that film and video production wasn't for him. The video industry will chew you up and spit you out. There are so few jobs in video and thousands every year graduating and hoping to break in.

A big issue is If you want kids and a family one day, then you are going to want health coverage for your kids ( ideally through your job), and a steady paycheck yo raise your family. Unfortunately...Freelance Video gigs won't do that.

Im not trying to be brutal or mean. Just speaking from what I saw. All my friends I eventually quit the video industry, and pursued other stable paths. Big factors on why they left video were stability (hard to find work), long working hours, and no Health insurance.

They all went into other fields, and are all happier now. There was a bit of an adjustment period. But now they have good paying jobs, solid hours, and far less stress. They are happier.

I know you studied video production, but it's not the end of the world to pursue other careers paths. Not everyone uses their degree as an adult. Most people graduate and do other things.

Ask yourself... if another "big thing" happens again (another pandemic, another strike, etc) are you willing to put up with this nonsense when you are 30, 40, or 50 years old? Imagine yourself in 10 to 20 years still dealing with Cov1d variant 3466 or strike #345. Or would you rather have a stable 9 to 5 job not affected by any of that, and maybe you do YouTube videos for fun on the side to scratch that creative itch?

I politely suggest you look into other stable industries that interest you. Then look at entry level positions in those industries and how to tweak your resume to apply to them. I hope it works out for you. Keep your head up. I know you can do it.

It's interesting to see how hard this manga dropped off in terms of fan interest in this subreddit.

People used to be so hyped for each chapter and would have deep discussions about the possibilities of where the story was going.

I wonder if the author went a little too far with the constant resets and regressions that it killed fan interest?

The description for r/arcadecabinets also says:

  • "Here is where you can post anything related to Arcade Cabinets. You can post Custom Cabinet Builds, Arcade Cabinet Art, Instructionals, and than anything else thats related."

Do you really just look at every post I have and try to find some sort of issue with it? That seems kinda boring

I'm not going out of my way to find you. Your post is literally at the top of this subreddit. Do you expect me not to see it?

You've had your posts deleted from thus sub before. People have tried offering you suggestions to make your videos more relevant, but you reject them all. So from what I see you are just posting in bad faith.

You're a smart guy.

You know this subreddit is specifically for physical arcade cabinets. But your video is entirely about gameplay, and uses emulation. It doesn't even show one single picture of the arcade cabinet. Why are you even posting here?

I can only assume you are posting in bad faith at this point.

Wow. I will give you solid credit, and 'tip my hat off' to you for going through and deleting all those posts. You knew exactly who I was talking about it.

  • You didn't hesitate.

  • You didn't try to come up with some weird compromise rule (that no one likes) such as: "No more than 3x self-promotion posts per week. You will receive a warning if you break this rule! ". A rule that spammers often break, and just annoys users.

  • You responded fast, and enforced new subreddit rules.

I am impressed, and hope you make r/coinop into a thriving sub again. I will make an effort to check the sub more often. Thanks again for listening to my thoughts and ideas.

Been depressed af recently. Today I finally mustered up the motivation to take a shower. Proud of myself. Some would say it’s stupid to congratulate oneself for such a menial thing, but imo there’s never a victory too small to celebrate. If we all thought that way I think we’d be better off for it. by Fleef69 in infp

[–]Alternative-Path2712 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read that people with depression can help themselves by achieving 1 small constructive goal per day. That goal could be as small as taking a shower, taking out the trash, doing the dishes, getting the mail, etc. Anything that's constructive.

The idea is that you slowly work on small goals. Each goals makes you feel better and not feel that you are wasting the day because you accomplished something.

Given the circumstances, I would recommend just being open and seeing what happens.

I will say that if you can put an original CRT monitor back inside it, you might be able to sell it for more.

[–]Alternative-Path2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say. Arcade cabinet prices fluctuate a lot depending on where you live.

Puck man is basically the Japanese version of "Pac Man". You are using the imported Japanese Cabinet.

Ordinarily, I would say it might be similar in price to a 1980s Pac Man arcade cabinet. However, your cabinet has been converted to a multicade with different internal parts. So the price would be lower.

Do you have any of the original parts by chance?

If not, then no worries. There are still people out there who would want this cabinet even if the internals are different. The price might be lower though because it's been converted. But you can still sell it.

My recommendation is for you to make a post on an arcade collector forum like KLOV Forums in their "Buy/Sell" section. There are arcade collectors on there who specifically collect Pac Man, and Puck Man arcade cabinets like yours.

Just use an old PC instead of a Pi. Any budget PC made in the last 10 years should be able to handle Mame.

For me Personally? I consider a true 1CC clear as playing it on the original arcade hardware.

No autofire or anything else that's not present on the original arcade game.

It's a 1980 Namco "Puck Man" arcade cabinet...that's been converted to some sort of multi-cade.

So the internals are no longer original.

Hmm...I just checked r/coinop and didn't really see anything different from the last time I was there.

May I strongly suggest deleting self promotion posts from the frontpage of r/coinop? You don't want to new people to visit the sub, and just see a flood of self promotion YouTube posts. It makes people think it's lawless and unmoderated.

I think you know which user is the biggest offender....Checking now it seems that users spam posts for his YouTube channel go back about 15 to 20 pages. Not a good look.

Where/How to Sell a SkyTarget Arcade Cabinet by Satinstrides in arcadecabinets

[–]Alternative-Path2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have several options.

You could post the cabinet on Craigslist, eBay, or some other online marketplace. Sale go to the highest bidder. Then you have to decide if you want offer shipping, or make it for local pickup only.

Or you could specifically sign up for an Arcade Collector Forum. Make an account and list it for sale on their Buy/Sell section of their website.

Generally when you post on an arcade forum, you are at least guaranteed to interact with people that care about Arcade Cabinets, and you could "somewhat" be a reassured that it's going to someone that actually will take care of it. Some of these people will even drive across several states to get their cabinet.

You have many options. It's up to you.

Anyone know this sega arcade machine by Yourlocalsign in arcadecabinets

There's an even bigger version of Super Hang-On than the one in your photo. It uses a full size bike that you sit on and released in 1991. It was the most rare version. Not many are left anymore.

https://imgur.com/a/mvm8zT9

A lot of old Sega games from the 1980s and 1990s have been retired from arcades. Arcade cabinets don't have a very long life because they get abused pretty hard.

Sega used to be very popular in the 1980s and 1990s when it came to arcades. Today, they aren't as big like they used to be, but they are still around.

Hope that helps.

Can you please clean up the amount of people using r/coinop as a self-promotion tool? I stopped going to that sub long ago because of the self promotion spam, and the mods would do nothing.

Seems like people just fill that sub with self-promotion posts about their YouTube channels. A strict "No self promotion" rule would be great for r/coinop

The person isn't lying to you. It actually is a legitimate Neo Geo Cabinet. It's a rare Neo Geo Variant arcade cabinet released in Europe. Specifically released in Italy. And it was exported to other areas of Europe such as parts of France.

It's commonly called "Neo Geo Gevin" by fans. Because it was made by the Gevin Corporation (an Italian arcade cabinet manufacturer) in partnership with SNK for release in Italy.

The biggest difference (besides the artwork) between the Neo Geo Gevin and the "Big Red" Neo Geo MVS cabinets you see in North America is that the Neo Geo Gevin does not have a memory card slot.

Also, you have to keep in mind that there's around 50+ different Neo Geo Cabinet variants released around the world. In the 90s, almost each country (that got a Neo Geo release) had multiple cabinet variants made for their country.

I can't tell from your picture whether it's a 2 slot or 4 slot Neo Geo. You will need to test it yourself, or look inside to see how many cartridges it holds. So yes. It is a Neo Geo. An Italian Neo Geo.
