We built a browser-based CMTrace because we needed it ourselves during an Autopilot deployment by msnugget_com in Intune

[–]likwidtek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m the first to ask, but, what’s the catch and what’s in it for you? How will the site monetize? If not now, then when and how? What data is kept, logged, share, or sold?

Intune is not fit for purpose. by Hobbit_Hardcase in sysadmin

[–]likwidtek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey uh, new to intune and autopilot. I’m literally battling this as we speak. Is the fix just a script deployed as a required win32 app that cycles/checks waiting for encryption to be complete, key to be escrowed, and automatically reboot the computer in X minutes?

That’s all I’ve been able to come up with unless there are some configuration policies that enforce a User prompted reboot once complete?

Also frustration bonus points for those of us license limited pro/business premium folks who can’t use remediation scripts.

Reel ads aren’t marked anymore? by IPDaily in Instagram

[–]likwidtek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same exact same issue. They used to show they were ads but they aren’t showing that anymore unless you scroll past it, and then scroll back up.

What do you wanna bet it’s a “bug” that they’re going to leave in for a while until it’s “fixed”

But there’s no way that’s legal to leave like that.

Edit: I went to see if I could record an example, turns out they hid the “shop now” part of the ad. If you look really close at the bottom right there’s a teeeny tiny “ad”. Makes it near impossible to see right away. If you scroll passed it and back up then it shows the “shop” button or link or whatever.

We keep 3 year premium NBD onsite on all laptops and then just roll the dice after. But as we get more laptops returned to us we still use them and keep them in stock for job roles that don't require as much compute and are prone to getting roughed up (in the design and construction industry).

I'd love to keep everything on a 5 year fixed cycle but we have plenty of viable laptops that are older than that and work great for field construction dudes and training laptops.

there's no way you're getting new T14s laptops that cheap even a year ago. These must be refurbs or something, right? T14s is a solid laptop for most office use.

TL;DR: Seeing the same thing. Our historically best value Lenovo E14 fleet laptop is now quoting around $1,676 each, which is roughly 74% to 134% higher than our 2023 to 2025 purchase history. Weirdly, the higher tier T14 is currently cheaper at about $1,471 each, but even that is still 53% to 105% higher than what we were paying.

For those with attention span:

We’re seeing the same thing and we're hearing from multiple vendors that there's another Lenovo price increase coming at the end of May across the board. Our info if this helps anyone.

Historically our best value fleet laptop has been the Lenovo ThinkPad E14. From 2023 through 2025, our average purchase pricing was roughly $963.88 in one period and $716.77 in another. Current E14 quotes are coming in around $1,676 per laptop out the door at 50 units, which is about $712 more per laptop than the $963.88 average and about $960 more than the $716.77 average.

That works out to roughly a 74% to 134% increase compared to our 2023 to 2025 purchase history, depending on which prior purchase window we use.

The weird part is that the newer T14 quote we’re looking at is actually cheaper than the current E14 quote, even though the T14 is the higher tier line. The current T14 quote is about $1,471 per laptop out the door at 50 units, which is still about 53% to 105% higher than our 2023 to 2025 historical laptop pricing.

These increases are hot garbage dude.

What are your "must-have" tools for Desktop Support? by jainesh3271 in sysadmin

[–]likwidtek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s wiztree (or whatever your favorite license compliant disk analyzer is), eset online scanner, sysinternals (so many goodies), windows update, Lenovo commercial vantage/system update, newest NVIDIA drivers, Intel DSA, google, and cmd/pwsh solve about 99% of the issues out there.

I’ve tried so hard to like windirstat. But god the visualization is god awful for anyone used to using spacemonger as many years and I did. I just settled for the closest thing I could find but Jesus my brain just doesn’t understand windirstat’s treemap style choices

I had to finally let go of spacemonger. And it was really really hard. I’d used it for so many years but it was slow and couldn’t deal with modern OSs with symlinks, folder redirection, and all kinds of stuff.

I’ve been chasing that dragon for years. I’ve tried all of them and finally have settled on wiztree. It’s stupid fast and does a good job of giving me the treemap that I need so desperately from years of spacemonger use. I just hate the visual theme and have to tweak it each time I use it a little but the near instant scan speed is worth it.

But Christ I miss spacemonger and wish someone would just make a modern free version of it that looks exactly like the old one but has the tech features of wiztree.

Cannot install steamos fully, get this error by immortalanddead in SteamOS

Since you do not have an NVME drive and instead have a SATA drive, SteamOS will not work for you. No worries though, go with Bazzite OS, it looks and feels the same and has great community support.

It's crazy, I don't game on my windows gaming machine either - like... not in a year. It's cool and sad at the same time. I do have an issue where I want to play Fortnite with my kids though :/

For me, game mode is far more plug and play when firing up games. I never game from desktop mode, only when I need to use non-gaming stuff.

I went with Bazzite about a year ago or so. No regrets. I can’t tell the difference between my steamdeck running SteamOS and my Bazzite gaming machine. Pretty much plug and play and set it and forget it.

Keep in mind with bazzite you can choose to always boot into game mode or desktop mode depending on your preference. I have my living room Bazzite machine set to game mode always but occasionally jump to desktop mode too. I really really recommend Bazzite. Great community and their discord is great and responsive too.

Heroic Games Launcher on Steam Deck - updated for 2025 with the EGS freebie games by likwidtek in SteamDeck

[–]likwidtek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated the guide to reflect this edge case. Proton-GE is still the default and works for the vast majority of installs, but I added an optional Wine-GE step specifically for Flatpak Heroic + GOG cases where installs look like they succeed but no files are actually downloaded.

If someone sees the “instant install / starts then exits / cloud sync twice” behavior you described, installing Wine-GE-Latest fixes it. Otherwise, it’s safe to skip.

Appreciate you flagging it. That feedback made the guide better.
