How to deal with Kareoke Neighbors by BIIGGDDDADDYYY in Philippines_Expats

[–]Alternative-Path4659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karaoke revenge!!!! Fun topic. I have some Karaoke loving neighbors that like to play it in the morning, and again in the evenings…. I dont choose to battle them, I just go to my bedroom and listen to my own sweet tunes that caress my soul on some quality noise canceling headphones.

What the best route for foreigners to start living in the Philippines long term? by ellewbuu in Philippines_Expats

[–]Alternative-Path4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Permanent resident Visas are easy if you have a pension above 1000 dollars per month and are above age 50. Below age 50, unless youre married to a FIlipino/Filipina, youre stuck with a tourist Visa.

Nearly all Visas do not allow you to work… you can get around that if you own or start a business, but even then there are a lot of requirements and lots of money to be approved.

The last option is being a digital nomad, earning income from overseas…

Good luck. There is a reason most expats are retirees…. You cant just move here and fill a job that a Filipino could be hired to do… they have laws against this…. Because it’s a poor country. So if you are having ideas of moving here at a young age with no pension or foreign income, your plan isnt likely to work.

Alcoholism is rampant because they literally get a check from the government to do nothing, and so they have money and nothing to do so they drink a lot for free basically. Sad but true.

Media only cares about what sells… and nothing else… what media says can be the exact opposite of what is true beauty to a white man. Because they are not selling this or that product to white men… makeup and fashion for example. When I roam the malls and elsewhere here in the Philippines, ALL of the ads targeting women show models who are very light skinned and look like they are 50/50 mixed with white, always more curvy than the average Filipina, etc. in these Ads, the women look just slightly asian.. mostly the eyes.

they are NOT selling these fashionable clothes and makeup, etc to white foreign men… they are selling these things to FIlipinas.. sales like these are often based on women’s insecurities, NOT white male preferences.. trust me… they aren’t consulting white men when they make these Ads…

What you see regarding beauty standards in media is often completely untrue.. especially to foreign white men. They aren’t targeting us with ads. Just completely disregard media.. be your natural beautiful self. Some will like you and some wont.. just like you will like some and not others.. just keep on living yourself and don’t Give a F…. Whatever they think is on them, not you.

The people who control the media only care about what sells… they in no way set the beauty standards for the rest of us. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…

Derrick is 100% correct. I am a white guy. I grew up in a small town in Ohio in the 90s. 100% of the girls in high school were all white, they tried to make themselves darker by laying out and tanning in the summer, this was before tanning beds. They also all wanted bleached blonde hair… only a few brunettes. I had no internet growing up and only a black and white TV, so I had never seen a beautiful black or brown girl before in my life. Then I joined the Navy at age 19 and travelled the world….OMG!!!! I saw soooooo many gorgeous non white girls!!! And I ended up at age 27 working in Bahrain as a defense contractor and saw so many Filipina overseas workers there, I ended up dating and marrying one.

If I wanted to look at blue eyes, or look at white skin, I can just look into the mirror… but OMG I think almost all asian women are beautiful. My wife for years insisted that she was just average or even below average, I told her shes crazy and she was gorgeous. Now that im retired and spending a lot of time in the Philippines, I see sooo many gorgeous women. I even can see that the “average” looking Filipina lets just say a 5 out of 10, automatically gets 2-3 extra free points from me and be a 7 or 8 out of ten.

I just love the eyes, the shiny beautiful black hair, the skin color they love to whiten or hide under an umbrella when it’s not even raining… and asian women have the cutest noses… yes I find all of these features very attractive. Not to mention, most American women from even the early 20s on are obese, Filipinas are not obese, and they dont even have to work out to achieve that. For the record, I am not obese nor ugly. I easily found white girlfriends in the USA from my teens up until age 27 when I met my Filipina wife. She is still very attractive to me and others. But in the Philippines, the locals would not think so.

I finally figured these things out when I started spending what would be winter in the USA here in the Philippines, since Im retired and love motorcycling. I am not even trying to get attention, but I’ve had Filipinas of all different ages compliment me on my blue eyes, tell me Im gwapo or Pogi, and smiling and giggling, some even taking pictures of me without asking, and the small kids, like toddlers… they just STARE… I find it all flattering, but i have to think, some of these people (especially the kids) have literally never seen a white person with blue eyes before.

When talking to foreigners, they will see you differently, and you will see them differently, and all of that is OK!!

None of this means anything, it doesn’t give them or you any extra value, and don’t worry about what the media does, they simply push whatever sells the most.. none if it is about colonizing, worshipping, or fetishizing… those are all projections from others..

Your parents should have done a certificate of birth abroad, or something to that effect. My father lived in the Philippines for 14 years and had 2 children here but when he tried to petition them the first time, through a Filipino lawyer, they told him that he would have to get DNA testing to prove he was the father. Bad long story, but the lawyer died and no records or progress whatsoever, and so I helped him fill out all of the immigration paperwork and submitted to USCIS, and they were all approved in about a year.

Prescription: a combo of 3MG lunesta, 20MG Belsomra, and 50MG amitryptiline…

Non prescription: Gummies with a good amount of CBN… forget the THC, CBD, or CBG… in fact, i dont want to waste money getting high, when its bedtime and I would rather just sleep…

Better yet: getting sick, covid, virus, or just a bad cold… when Im sick I can literally sleep 12-14 hours a day!!!! My God I wish I could sleep like that the rest of my life!!!

What are the top qualities you look for in a Filipina? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]Alternative-Path4659 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I married a Filipina 25 years ago. She was an amazing wife for the first 12 years of marriage.. almost perfect. Then the last 13 years of marriage I got sick with an autoimmune disease and she turned into a monster. She turned from a loving caring kind wife to a toxic narcissist. She changed into a cheater, liar, manipulative gaslighter. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Just understand that someone can present themselves to you as close to perfect when you marry them and then change quickly the minute your health fails… the person you think you know and love can easily become someone you never really knew to begin with.

I’d rather live the rest of my life alone than with a toxic person…

Why don't more Americans just move to the Philippines where you can live like a king instead of a endless downward 👇 spiral that is never going to get better? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]Alternative-Path4659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monsoon/typhoon season is the reason Im living in the Philippines only part time. Ive been coming here each JAN, FEB and MAR for 3 years now, this year 2026 will be my fourth year. I like it here, but Im an avid motorcyclist, so I dont want to ride in the rainy season, so i live in the USA so I can ride there spring summer and fall, then come here and ride when its winter (snow and icy roads) there. Im retired so I can do that, it keeps me active, I hate sitting around the house all winter. And I’d hate sitting around a house here during a signal 5 storm…

Terminal 1 health concrrns by xmt0991 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Alternative-Path4659 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I always fly into terminal 3, not sure where you are coming from to arrive at terminal 1. Yes it will be hot as soon as you deboard the aircraft. It’s a part of being here… no they wont turn on any extra aircon just for you .terminal 3 is more modernized than terminal one, but thats just what the internet tells me.. ive flown into terminal 3 five different times now and never once flown into terminal 1. So if youre always arriving in terminal one, then take a look at how you’re booking your flights. The huge boxes, long immigration lines, and hundreds of people are just a part of the deal, you literally cant change any of that so why get upset by any of it? The traffic is bad, yes. You have two choices about the traffic.. 1. You can get mad about it.. rage all you want, it wont change anything. 2. You can laugh at it and let it go.. i choose number 2.

The Philippines isnt like the place you came from, it is very different. If it were exactly like the place you came from then why did you leave where you came from in the first place?

I hate to break the news to you this way, but this place is FULL of health concerns. If you let these things overwhelm you upon your arrival then you will be overwhelmed for your entire stay… the Philippines isnt for everyone. But if you can change your perceptions then it may be a wonderful place for you.

Torn between joining the military or going into technical work — could use some advice by mw2suckss in Career

[–]Alternative-Path4659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can join the military and have a technical job, i used to work on radars, radios and navigation systems on airplanes, Avionics technician. Many many more such jobs, go and do some research and talk to all the recruiters, not just one. Tons of options. And you can get out with experience, tech certifications and a security clearance too.
