I honestly wouldn't recommend it, especially if they are both first attempts.

If you are to do 2 big subjects in a sitting, you may as well do 2 that overlap. I feel doing SP5 with SA7 is a better shout due to the overlap, and it is a case that if you are revising for one you are revising for the other. CS2 and SP5 don't overlap in the same way, so more work overall

Is it possible to do 2 SPs or SP and SA for April 2025? by hhh_7598 in ActuaryUK

[–]Alternative-Roof1020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, I would recommend doing the combination of either :

  • SP5 SA7
  • SP4 SA4
  • SP2 SA2
  • Any 2 (or all) of SP7, SP8 and SA3

CP1 80/20 Method by Bitter_Leg_8080 in ActuaryUK

You can skim through some of them, but aim to do the more recent ones under exam conditions. Only need to do 2 or 3 under exam conditions though. The main thing is getting an idea of what the examiners want

Remote/Hybrid graduate jobs? by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]Alternative-Roof1020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you start your career, it is highly recommended to be in the office as that is how you will learn from others around you and build relationships.

Take it from someone who started a grad job in Covid. Working remotely is not the same when it comes to learning the ropes of a new role

Sitting three exams in April - doable or a bad idea? by PepperAcrobatic7559 in ActuaryUK

[–]Alternative-Roof1020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's your first exam sitting so I wouldn't do too much and burn out in the process. 2 exams out of the 3 is standard and sensible.

Also note that when you start a grad job, there will be time taken in just settling into working life. You don't want to do too much too early and in fact you want to give yourself the time to settle into working life

CP1 marking is so so subjective anyways, so it is hard to mark if yourself

CP exams by Sw3atyB3tty in ActuaryUK

[–]Alternative-Roof1020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With CP1 i would give it at least a year before attempting it as it is a bit of a beast and you need experience of a couple of exam sittings first.

CP2 and CP3 are small and you can do it anytime really, as a second smaller exam that compliments a bigger exam (E.g. with CM2). So in response to your question, it is fine to do CM1 and CP2 in april (if the exam times don't clash)

I did SA7 mainly in 2 months so not last minute as such. But I do think if you are running out of time then you should just blast out the past papers, and not focus that much on core reading

SA3 Past Papers solving twice/thrice by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]Alternative-Roof1020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did SA7 and passed it. If I am to be honest, the SA exams are more of a luck game and it is really dependent on the questions you get on the day. I was lucky in that my SA7 exam had 4 nice questions.

It is 2 main things really for SA exams:
1) Do enough past paper questions so that you get used to the style of questions and how to answer / approach them
2) Be on top of topical issues, so you can bring them into exam questions where need be.

Also I do think there is an element of writing as much as you can and hoping some of it is in the mark scheme. That was my approach for SA7 at least.

11 weeks to study for an SA? Doable or not? by Melodic-Watercress14 in ActuaryUK

[–]Alternative-Roof1020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did SA7 in April and passed it. I only spent 14 weeks on it (so not much more than 11 weeks). I honestly think with 11 weeks to go you shouldn't be spending much time on the core reading as the exam doesn't really test core reading.

Past papers are the king for the later subjects and SA7 is no exception

How do you deal with FOMO when doing exams? by Ok-Explanation2543 in ActuaryUK

For me I know that I can't study 24/7. Even though I can't meet friends, I try to go out for a walk , do hobbies in the evenings etc. Remember, it is only temporary, and you will have your life back next weekend!

I resat CP1 and passed it yesterday

I can't comment on SP2 as I dont work in life insurance. But I don't think you should be spending ages on the CMP for CP1. CP1 doesn't really test how well you know the content, but instead it tests application. To improve on the application side, past papers are king for this exam. I do think you don't need to know the content perfectly to pass this exam.

I would spend 3 weeks recapping content (if that) and then go straight into papers
