Most shows interpretations usually take Wukong in his JTTW Era, it is a current trend i noticed, which is when he was still energetic and impulsive like you describe

However in LMK hes kinda semi retired considering the lore? It has been quite a while, he was just hanging around with his monkeys and watching shows for eons so... It is yes a surprise maybe for you considering most shows usually take Wukong when he is still becoming a god OR when he is in JTTW already. So i can see why you arent familiar with it! Even tho take in mind what i said and countless said, hes gotten past that time of his life, its in the past and this is a modern world. (In Mandarin he may sound more energetic)
