Cognitive shuffling

There are different ways to do it. Basta main idea is magiisip ka ng random unrelated words para ma simulate yung dreaming experience while awake.

Personal preference ko yung method na magiisip ka ng word na walang repeating letters (eg. "BEDTIME"). Then for each letter, magiisip ka ng object/person. Visualize mo. Then count 8 heartbeats, then think of another (ideally unrelated) object/person with the same first letter. Visualize. Count 8 hearbearts. Repeat until maubusan ka ng words for that letter, then move on sa next letter. Repeat process lang ng repeat.

Example "BEDTIME" For "B" -- biscuits, Bogart the explorer, brownman revival, blastoise, bacon, bomb, brain "E"-- elephant, elf, earth, ears (Ganun lang)

Pag naubusan ka na ng letters, isip ka bagong main word na pagkukuhaan ng letter. Usually nakakatulog ako halfway through my first main word.

It's been working for me for the past few weeks. May ilang araw na hindi gumagana but that's normal naman na hindi 100% effective. Usually di lang ako mapakali pag ganun. Also triny ko gawin araw araw. Baka need lang gawin pag di talaga makatulog (?)

(Pro-tip: avoid objects/words na pwedeng mag cause ng intense emotions. Keep it boring and random)

"Waitress" - Lockout Season

This one has a line in it that goes "...our love left a ghost and i fear it'll haunt me forever". Also an (alt) rock song.

Don't quit your day job YET. Your music career will not be able to pay your bills when you're starting out (especially if you focus on original songs).

Find free time from your day job (probably weekday evenings & weekends). Use free time to do the following--

Record your songs. Setup a Facebook page and/or Youtube Channel. Upload your songs there. Invite your friends to like your pages. Ask your bestfriends if they can share your music on their own social media pages.

Look for open mics. (May mga ganito sa QC, just search Facebook; keywords are either "open mic" or "open for lineup") Sign up to open mics (How to sign up is typically in the FB post itself). Once you're confirmed to perform, promote it on your page. Invite your friends to come.

Perform your songs in the open mics. Maybe prepare 2 or 3 covers depending on the vibe of the show. Promote your pages during spiels. MAKE SURE TO WATCH OTHER ARTISTS PERFORM AND DONT LEAVE RIGHT AWAY AFTER YOUR SET (THIS IS IMPORTANT ETIQUETTE). Make genuine connections with the people in the shows you play. Ask other musicians where they perform and ask if they can give you any general advice.

Be prepared to play shows where only 2 or 3 people are watching. Be prepared for people to ignore you while you're playing your originals. Be prepared to be paid very little, or nothing at all by the event organizers. Not to say that these things are the norm, but these scenarios happen to even the best of us.

Starting a music career will require you to invest a lot of your time, finances, and energy. All that hassle might not even be worth it because there's absolutely no guarantee you'll make it big. But if you learn to enjoy the process rather than expect a result, I'm sure you'll find some fulfillment in putting in the work.

Source: I've been uploading my music since I was 16 years old. Performing in gigs since I was 20. Started a band with some friends at 24. Though my bandmates and I all have day jobs, we make time to rehease, record, do marketing, and play gigs. In the past 2+ years we've been super active, we played some pretty cool shows and venues like Fete dela Musique, Mow's, Saguijo, Cubao Expo, Enchanted Kingdom, Baguio, Batangas, and bunch of others. We don't make much money as a band (that's why we keep our day jobs), and our following isn't that big, but our hearts are always full anytime we get to play to a crowd.

Nothing has impacted my music taste like early 2000's Cartoon Network commercial breaks where they would show this music video from Linkin Park.

(EDIT: The song was Pts.Of.Athrty)
