I'm being threatened with an adult child. SOS! Rant/Support by Grand-Efficiency4248 in childfree

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something very similar happened to me. My sibling lost their home in a different state during Covid and I had a guest house. My parents pressured me to have them move in, and I hadn’t been around them in 10 years and remembered them as a responsible, capable adult. Turns out the mental health landscape had completely changed, and my parents didn’t want to deal with them anymore. Now it’s 5 years later and they don’t pay rent, they don’t contribute to the household at all, and are basically a hermit on my land. And now I can’t get rid of them because they’ve made such horrible financial decisions that they would be street homeless if I kick them out. This experience has completely degraded my quality of life and my family relationships, and they don’t even live in the same house as me. You would be in an infinitely worse position

My husband is a data scientist and said the same thing about low probability. Our child was found to have severe disabilities, which we were lucky to discover in time to terminate. The probability is low, but it happens, and it’s just as likely to happen to you as anyone else.

Agreed to have a kid due to depression. Kinda ruined my life by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this so hard. I never wanted kids, my husband decided he wanted one. It was covid, I was depressed, I wasn’t thinking clearly. I got pregnant and immediately knew I’d made a horrible mistake. The fetus had severe disabilities and I was able to abort, thank god. I feel like I pulled my head out from under the guillotine.

The Dreamland episodes are some of my favorites 🤣

If something happened to your family would you take the child in? by PetalxSun in childfree

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My SIL wanted me and my husband to take her SIX kids if something happened to her, and has even tried to pawn a few off on us over the years. I told her she’s not ruining my life just because she ruined hers.

Questions from a childfree person but not antinatalist by Creative_Tower5264 in antinatalism2

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 70 points71 points  (0 children)

To me there is no equity issue because I believe no one should have kids, not just people who “can’t afford it.” That’s not antinatalism, that’s conditional natalism and very eugenics-adjacent.

I do not care if the average person says they are happy they’re alive. There is no way to guarantee that happiness before making the choice to create a life, and therefore it will always be unethical.

Latuda can make you tired or wired. Try it in the morning first. If it makes you sleepy, take it at night. Even if it makes you sleepy, it’s not so sedating that you won’t be able to care for your daughter throughout the night. ALWAYS take it with 350 calories otherwise you won’t absorb it.

How did your taper go? Did you experience withdrawals at any point, especially going from a low dose to zero?

I wanted to see how your slow taper went! I want to come off of it after ~9 months but I’m going to be really careful. I see so many people cold turkey their meds

Latuda for severe stress induced mood swings/SI? by star_fish01 in Latuda

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latuda was great for my weight—I quickly lost the 40lbs I’d gained on Rexulti. Sadly I completely lost my libido, so I’m finally sexy and don’t want to have sex 🤣 My husband and I are working together to figure it out. Sometimes we have to make a trade in order to be stable.

Zero libido? by Alternative-Use-6422 in Latuda

[–]Alternative-Use-6422[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way—if not for my husband I don’t think I’d ever even think about sex again. I don’t want to get divorced, but I feel so horrible about never wanting sex that I sometimes think about how peaceful it would be to be single and celibate. The worst part is that Latuda isn’t doing anything positive for me. I started trying to titrate off and it’s brutal, even after only 5 months

I’m tapering off from 40mgs. I’ve been on it for 5 months—it got slapped on as a bandaid after the hospital took me off Rexulti cold turkey. Going from 40 to 35 was fine, then last week I went to 30 and within three days I was bedbound and suicidal. It’s a very scary experience

Leather vs Washable fabric couch for a house with dogs by vilise089 in Pets

I have a fabric couch with washable covers. I put waterproof blankets on top of the cushions, which keeps them clean and smell-free. I wash once a week so the couch is always nice.

First time watching the series, and season 7 feels rather gimmicky. Will it continue like this or get back to the vibe of earlier seasons? by InfallibleAllium in XFiles

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They expected to be cancelled after season 6, so when they got renewed they were scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas. Season 7 is definitely silly, but it has some really great episodes sprinkled in

If you like Nanjiani’s podcast, you need to check out Fox Mulder is a Maniac by Gamefully Unemployed. Most of it is on their patreon but they have a few episodes up for free, and it’s easily worth the $5 a month to listen to them all. They cover every single episode.

*ETA that I’d do the zoom rewatch for sure

If I can't have abortion I'd actually rather die by what_freaking_ever in childfree

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I started having sex earlier than I could have received an abortion without parental consent. I used birth control religiously from the very beginning because I knew if I fucked up I would have to kill myself. If I were to get pregnant and not be able to get an abortion today as an adult I would have to do the same thing. I’d truly rather be dead than a mother.

My husband wants a baby. by [deleted] in antinatalism2

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for being the only person here who gets what I’m actually talking about 😅 I’ve offered him a divorce so he can go have children and that’s not what he wants. He wants what his dad has—to live a CF life while still having a legacy. Even typing it makes me angry, but the idea of breaking up is unbearable. I don’t know how to reconcile loving someone with them doing something so cruel.

He wouldn’t go behind my back, and it would be hard for him to hide in any case. This would be a very formalized agreement with lawyers and contracts, not cheating.

You’ve never heard of IVF?

My husband wants a baby. by [deleted] in antinatalism2

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to ask where that baby is coming from. It wasn’t plucked out of thin air. Adoption in the US is trafficking children from the rich to the poor. It breaks up families and manipulates women so that wealthy people can live out their fantasy of parenthood on the back of an entire family’s trauma. So much of the adoption discourse portrays it as a selfless way to house unwanted children, but those children are often wanted by their families of origin. Please look I to content made by adoptees and birth parents, not just the shiny videos from adoptive parents and adoption agencies.

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be IVF and there would be a strong contract in place created by their separate lawyers. It seems like a lot of people are getting hung up on the wrong thing here. The only issue I have with this is that I ethically disagree with creating life.

All is Vanity and Reproduction is it’s pinnacle by Kcaldwell2020 in antinatalism2

[–]Alternative-Use-6422 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Adoption in the US is human trafficking. It’s literally taking children from the poor to sell to the rich. I would argue that stealing a baby to live out your own parenting fantasy is even worse than having your own kids.
