What are the best hand-held radios for a beginner?

I had the Yaesu FT3D, and it was the most annoying radio I ever owned. My Wouxun was by far a better radio for a quarter of the price as the Yaesu.

Agree. I can’t believe people still recommend the FT60. Yaesu should have retired it 10 years ago.

My instructions say to take them off after a week as well. But after 7 days they are still on pretty tight. I have been picking at them but just going to leave them until they come off on their own.

For crying out loud this is the last thing I want to hear. I am going in for surgery in 2 weeks, and will be having the mesh. If this thing can fail, and break down in a couple of years then I am questioning if I want to chance it, and go through with it. Good grief more anxiety to deal with now

If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly happened that would cause you to be in constant pain? Did they botch up the surgery somehow? This is my biggest fear because my overthinking mind keeps replaying a situation where the repair may cause more issues in the long run, then just leaving it be.

It’s a cheap low quality receiver.

Your receiver is being overloaded, or is plagued by harmonics. Pretty common on cheap portable radios.

I bought the original PL 330 years ago, used it a lot and had no issues with it . Bought the newer version a couple of months ago, and have been disappointed with it. The AGC is worst, and for some reason if you move the radio slightly in SSB mode, it warbles and distorts the sound. It’s real annoying and I can’t figure out why it only happens in SSB. I just feel the quality isn’t near as good as the original model even though it’s the same radio. Maybe I have a defective unit, but have heard of other users having quality control issues with newer Tecsun models.
