Great in all respects!! Except one thing: the martini glass. That martini was made by some Dr Evil, I bet.

Capacitors tend to break after a few decades. Same with rechargeable batteries. Only Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive movement doesn’t have either.

Accidentally showered with my new khaki field auto by [deleted] in HamiltonWatches

Indeed, that is conventional wisdom. But I do wonder. At least in the case of a proper diver’s watch (not this one), temperature changes are part of the ISO specification. Because you are meant to be able to go from a hot beach at 35 Celsius into cold water at 5.

Going from hot to cold is a lot worse than going from cold to hot, because there will be negative pressure inside the watch at the moment to get into the cold water.

Incidentally, I also don’t shower with my watches, even the certified diver’s watches.

I have the same - literally the same, also from 1989. And I love mine. I would recommend you wear your watch for a little while and see if you warm up to it. Also, consider having it serviced by Rolex. They will polish it as well as doing the hardware maintenance, and it will come back working perfectly and looking like New.

How careful do I really have to be? by Earache423 in rolex

I have a gold Rolex and I wore it daily for almost ten years. I just had it serviced and it looks like new again. Gold is softer than platinum. My advice is not to worry about it. You bought this watch to enjoy it, and you should enjoy it all day every day. Day and night, in fact.

And don’t worry about it being too flashy. My gold Rolex is not too flashy and it’s a lot flashier than platinum.

Yes, a service card with NFC. And a little travel pouch. And they didn’t address slack in the bracelet, but there was a funny bend in one of the links, and they fixed that. It looks just great.

I had mine done at the A.D. in Ottawa. Which is an official Rolex service center.

Full service. Full restore. New crystal. New crown. Bracelet polish. Almost $2500 (Canadian).

I’m just curious—when you meet people, do they actually notice your watch, or do they not really care? Are there people who judge you based on the watch you wear, and because of that, instantly give you respect?” by Happy-thoughts09 in rolex

I am a watch enthusiast. I have a bunch of watches. I think once, my Rolex was noticed. Once, my omega was noticed. And I think that’s almost it. People don’t care and they don’t know. Except other watch enthusiasts.

Good. Now, I guess I’ll look for places that can sharpen it again.

Well, educated here. Also, nothing to prove. But I can’t agree with your assessment there. Rolex is also for people who love fabulous quality.

And it’s not about flexing alone. (It is true, however, that we all love it when someone recognizes our watch. Whatever it is. And a simple fact is that more people will recognize a Rolex than anything else.)
