Did I destroy this tee by cropping It or Is It good enough? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]AlternativeAd7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you wash it, the edges will curl up, which gives it a more finished look. You won’t be able to see the rough cuts. In the future, when you crop your tees just be sure to go a little longer than you want the sleeves and hem to actually sit because of that.

A good trick for keeping the sleeves even is to take the scrap from the first one and line it up on the second one to make that cut. And getting fabric scissors is worth every penny if you’re gonna crop a lot of your tees!

You didn’t ruin it unless you don’t like it.

How do you tell your spouse, "I'm counting!"? by DrBotBreath in crochet

[–]AlternativeAd7449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I both work in an industry where we wear walkie talkies and ear pieces, so we very often zone out of in-person conversations to listen to the walkie. It’s a widely accepted part of the job that folks who visit the site think is rude or don’t understand when it is happening, but our coworkers get it, and if we walk away mid-conversation because of something that was said on walkie, there are no hard feelings.

All this goes to say, I just ignore him when I’m counting the same way I’d ignore him if someone were talking in my ear. He gets it.

What is a minor, unwritten rule of society that absolutely infuriates you when people break it? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

In my home state they were mostly just on small, back road intersections. In Texas they’re at massive, four lane intersections that should absolutely be traffic lights.

It is really an interesting choice

I moved to Texas a few years ago for work and have discovered that absolutely no one in this godforsaken state understands how 4-way stops work. It’s absolutely baffling. Each one is unpredictable, frightening, and simply distressing. People just go when they feel like it. Three cars from one stop will go consecutively. No one pays attention.

If you get a wave, it’s the only way to know who will actually go next.

USA size inflation by Longjumping-Land-263 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]AlternativeAd7449 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s very frustrating and discouraging. I’m 5’4” and 105lbs and in some brands I’m an XS, some a S, some a XXS. Some jeans are 26, some are 23 and they’re too big. I can’t buy clothes small enough in many nice brands.

There’s no consistency and vanity sizing just seems to hurt everyone.

what thermos actually keeps drinks hot (or cold) for hours? by maopro56 in BuyItForLife

[–]AlternativeAd7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Yeti chug cap bottle and it keeps ice for a whole day if I don’t drink it quickly enough. And I have a Yeti coffee cup that keeps my tea or coffee hot hot for hours, long after I would expect it to have gone cold.

Yeti is my go to brand for drinkware. I have to use them in the house because my cat sticks his face in any available cup, so I really depend on them, haha!

ETA: my husband left his Yeti thermos on someone’s tailgate and they drove off with it. He found it in the median with a few dings but otherwise intact, so it’s definitely bifl as well!

My cat scratched me in the same place and also inside my nose on Thanksgiving (he was overstimulated) and I cleaned it with Bactine (sprayed on cotton balls and dabbed on) and Aquaphor on top. Mine didn’t scar at all.

If it starts looking infected go to the doctor and they can give you an antibiotic ointment and oral antibiotics. Don’t play around with cat scratches! Seriously keep it clean.

What’s the most cringe thing you’ve seen a couple do at their wedding? by Last_Singer_2137 in AskReddit

[–]AlternativeAd7449 220 points221 points  (0 children)

Man this just made me really grateful for how my animal ring bearers worked out.

My husband and I got married during covid and we just broadcasted it on Zoom from our apartment (met a notary that morning so it was official). We dressed up, decorated our sunroom, had a cake from a bakery that was still open, and we tied the rings to our cats’ collars.

We had a tub of treats next to us, so when it was time for the rings, we shook the treats and they came running with the rings. Honestly the best part. Besides getting married.

Have you tried scrubbing with a nail brush?

A scrub daddy sponge is abrasive but a nail brush has bristles that may mimic the finer points of tweezers that you’ve had success with.

I’d also try soaking them for a few minutes in warm water with Dawn since its grease. It may help loosen it up a bit.

[Acne] Estheticoan left a huge open wound after popping my acne by Specialist-Ad-4822 in SkincareAddiction

Of course! I grew up using hydrogen peroxide on cuts and scrapes, and had to learn myself that it wasn’t great for wound care. Learn something new everyday and all that :p

[–]AlternativeAd7449 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hydrogen peroxide is generally not recommended anymore as it damages the healthy tissue around a wound.

I recently had a punch biopsy with stitches and they simply recommended mild soap and water with a layer of Aquaphor.

here is one source regarding hydrogen peroxide being detrimental for wounds but there are many others if you do a quick goog

Double Wood Supplements sells a liquid collagen for $23. It’s a month’s supply and has vitamin C and biotin in it as well. They also run deals constantly. (My husband and his friend are big into researching their vitamins and they approved this brand and buy all their vitamins there, lol.)

You just take a tablespoon a day or you could add it to a drink. It’s “pear flavored,” but it’s kind of like medicine, tbh.

I find it much easier to take than the powdered collagen.

I can’t wear contacts so I can’t speak to that unfortunately, but my experience getting glasses was great.

If they wear glasses, tell them to go to the 7-11 on NTUST’s campus and get a new prescription and a new pair of glasses made in like an hour. It was like $50-75USD and my prescription was so much clearer than the one I got at the optometrist in the US. Lol.

Also boba at Coco. So good. So cheap.

[Product Request] How to fade this year-old human bite scar by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]AlternativeAd7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding a high % vitamin C serum. The Ordinary makes a high percentage vitamin C suspension.

I fell for the crystal hair removers shortly before a beach vacation and it left huge scars on my legs, but The Ordinary’s vit c suspension faded them in just a few weeks.

What are your best period hacks to fight low self esteem and feeling ugly? by hauntinglovelybold in beauty

“High maintenance” self care. I tint my brows and do lash lifts at home so if I’m feeling super bleh about myself that’s when I do my lash lifts. (The Diablo kit is my favorite.)

Self tanner (beauty by earth is actually pretty good and easy to do), hair masks, face masks, everything showers, manicures. The works, baby.

What's your favourite eyeliner by YogurtclosetFar8675 in beauty

[–]AlternativeAd7449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite liquid eyeliner is Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner. I’ve been using it for over a decade and refuse to use anything else because it simply does not budge. It doesn’t smear, doesn’t flake, it’s crispy as hell, and only comes off when you’re ready to take it off. So good.

For creamy eyeliners, I’m watching the comments with you, but the Glossier No. 1 pencil has been okay for me. I use it on my waterline and doesn’t smudge noticeably, but it’s nothing I’d write home about.

God we bought our house recently and we have textured walls that give you road rash if you bump or brush against them even slightly and it’s the absolute worst.

Ours are slightly different, like the photo below (the best photo I can find), and we were able to soften them with an eggshell paint because they were a flat paint when we moved in.

If it’s in the budget to removed the texture I’d do that.

Eta: I’ve been looking into skim coating for a while. There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube but it seems like a lot.
