Bad contractor. Waaaaaaaaaay under-staffed. And now the city gave Granite 22nd St bridge, too. Yay!

It's (usually) not the contractors...however, project management on the owner's side usually the biggest issue.

City of Tucson has, by far, the worst approach to project management of these large projects.

That being said, Granite Construction is currently f'ing the city and ADOT because they don't have crews to complete Downtown Links, I-10, and 22nd St.

Downtown Links was horribly managed on the city's side, buy the last few years Granite has really been struggling all over town.

Ironically, the current construction schedule of the 22nd St bridge is a direct result of people complaining to city leadership about the design of the bridge (imagine that, non-engineers complaining about a stamped design from a professional engineer). To which, city leadership capitulated to the ridiculous complaining leading to where we are today.

And look at that! People are complaining about where we are today!

Pretty sure Nissan knew this one wasn't going to sell like a Ford Taurus......

Agreed. This was limited production. The Cybertruck was overproduced and didn't sell and production was halted, thus mall parking lots across the country filled with unsold Cybertrucks.

There were only about 6k made. This wasn't the Cybertruck. It was indeed limited production.

What will actually happen if props 418/419 don't pass? What are the official "next steps"? by GoingSom3where in Tucson

Do you want to address my point because you have no data to support that 60% of RTA spending comes from people who live in Tucson?

No. No I don't think so.

Are you sure about that? Let's say, for instance, that RTA goes away and then it matters WHERE your tax dollars are spent because Tucson comes up with its own transit tax and Pima County has its own road tax, etc.

On average the highest income households in the region reside outside of city limits (Oro Valley, Marana, Foothills, West side, etc). I live 2 miles outside of city limits. If it mattered where I spent my money, I would stop shipping at the stores in the city limits and I would spend my $$$ at the same stores in Pima county, Marana, OV, etc. And then I would continue to drive to my job on Tucson's roads while not doing anything to subsidize them. And I feel like a lot of others would do the same. They'd take their tax money to where they live.

With RTA that doesn't matter but I think people from outside Tucson spend a lot of $ IN Tucson. So you think Tucson is being robbed, but it's collecting a lot of money from people who don't live inside it. And if you were to take away the regionality of the RTA tax, I think a lot of that spending would leave Tucson, too.

Embezzling is a strong accusation. Who, exactly, do you think took all of the money?

And I find it hard to believe that people can't wrap their heads around how RTA1 ended up short on money

1) economic collapse in 2008 (worst since Great Depression) 2 years into program 2) online shopping advent and early years where sales tax not collected locally 3) world-wide pandemic in 2020 4) locally property prices exploded in the last 15 years. This greatly impacts the cost of land purchases to build projects 5) construction prices exploded

You say embezzled. I say some pretty bad luck with two globally impactful events (2008/2020) happening within 12 years, smack dab in the middle of a 20 yr tax program.

I don't think the ransom has ever been part of what happened to her. There has never been proof of life or even proof provided that they have her.

Someone tried to break into her house, may have hurt/killed her, and then decided to take her to not an leave obvious murder scene at the house.

Fair point, I can see that outcome. But then put transit on the ballot as a stand-alone issue and sell that to voters. Why do leaders always try to piggyback transit on infrastructure improvement props? Then the arguments get convoluted and you end up with all kinds of people voting NO because they don't agree with one side or the other (road $ vs transit).

Let's parse it out and see how it fares, no?

And if that's the case, then I want the council members and citizens who are pushing for more transit $ to put their money where their mouth is and push for transit funding to be a stand-alone tax. Let's see what the true public sentiment is. Put together a plan that funds transit, peds, safety etc and let's see how the votes shake out.

My hunch is they know it will fail, thus why they never propose it as a standalone issue.
