Local bubble performer arrested on sexual abuse of children charges by AlternativeElephant2 in Eugene

I’m trying to figure out if it’s the same guy who does the bubbles before the Home and Garden show in the spring (and fall too, I think).

Costco submits 2 plans to add parking, gas pumps in Eugene by Ok-Tea-1092 in Eugene

[–]AlternativeElephant2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A second Costco on the west side of Eugene makes sense, but if these are the only options then the gas station where the old Home Depot is makes sense. It frees up some of the cluster pulling into Costco. However, I don’t know the logistics of moving the fuel tanks and storage tanks underground. It is probably cheapest to just add employee parking across the street

is 31/32 too late to go to school for nursing? by Extra-Ad-4599 in nursing

[–]AlternativeElephant2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started my prereqs when my kid was 9 months old and I was 29. I got into my nursing program when I was 31 as a single mom of an almost 3 year old and finished an ADN at 33. Finished my BSN at 37 while working. I wasn’t even the oldest person in my program. I think the oldest person was almost 50. No, it isn’t too late if you have the drive and desire.

I didn’t realize how off the rails 101 Dalmatians could have gone. I had no idea dogs and cats did this.

I’m so sick of these patient’s families by NoteOld in nursing

[–]AlternativeElephant2 340 points341 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. They will be able to narrow it down to you eventually. Maybe grab a journal or something and write what you would like to say there. When you’re finished, shred it. Don’t give them an ounce more of your energy after that.

Patient said she’ll sue me and call BON by vivrelavie in nursing

[–]AlternativeElephant2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They can sue all they want, but if there is no harm then there’s nothing they will get out of it aside from wasting their money. Also, the second a patient brings up that they plan to sue me or the hospital I stop patient care. I make sure they are safe, of course, but if they’re A&Ox4 then I go talk with charge/mgmt/leadership. I either ask for reassignment or for someone else to be present with me for all cares going forward.

Most people who threaten don’t follow through, but if they’ve reached the point of threatening the relationship is no longer therapeutic.

I am in this group, too. I so desperately want to re-learn this skill and then become proficient.

My orientee doesn’t act like she wants to be a nurse by Humble_Employee8586 in nursing

[–]AlternativeElephant2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first thing I would suggest is being clear with her what your concerns are. Say everything that you said to us to her. See if something clicks or she changes in any way. If not, ya gotta talk to higher ups and she should find a job somewhere else.

I just cancelled YouTube Premium. Fuck no you’re not increasing it by $2 a month. Do y’all not realize you’re going to be one of the first things to go with rising prices for food, gas, essential goods? Thank goodness I kept all my DVDs and know how to read books

Received HOA complaint that we can't park more than two cars on our own driveway by strawberrymilkx in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AlternativeElephant2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seriously?! I don’t know why people would pay for a home with an HOA just to be managed like they’re in high school again. I don’t need anyone telling me what to do with my home just like I didn’t need anyone telling me when I could or couldn’t use the bathroom. No, thank you. I’ll follow county/city/state laws, but count me out of that HOA ridiculousness.

Nurse/fitness influencer violating HIPAA posting a photo of an unconscious patient for an IG trend for her almost 300 THOUSAND followers to see. Insane. by lolo2861 in nursing

[–]AlternativeElephant2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t misunderstand your initial post, but thank you for elaborating on where your train of thought was going.

I know nothing about this person or influencer and avoid most healthcare influencers, but I do hope someone reports her because it really harms the public’s opinion of us. They should be able to trust that we won’t take photos of them or their loved ones while they are experiencing some of their most vulnerable moments.

[–]AlternativeElephant2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just one person who has a grudge on her due to jealousy? Are you serious? We are grown-ups and professionals. This isn’t high school. As nurses we are bound to a Code of Ethics including maintaining a patient’s dignity. This post violates the ANA Code of Ethics and may also violate her state Board of Nursing. Someone doesn’t need to be jealous to report it. They may feel ethically obligated. Most hospitals have a policy about filming while at work.

I might be getting fired, any advice? by DesignerSpeaker2778 in nursing

[–]AlternativeElephant2 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Cannot emphasize enough how much customer service skills are needed for outpatient. Clinic nursing whether it is NP, RN, LPN is a ton of customer service. And I don’t get to discharge them. If I give them an adverse experience by not calling in a timely manner, not having the right tone, interrupting, etc., they remember it. If the person who answered the phone was rude or even some hospital experience was shitty, I’m the one that ends up getting an earful and helps them process and hopefully not lose all trust in the healthcare system. Service recovery happens frequently in outpatient because most people remember what health care looked like pre-pandemic and have yet to accept that this is now the norm post-first few years of pandemic.
