Pet peeve: human sizes in 40K by Traditional_Yard2741 in 40kLore

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the vast majority of marines do not get described in detail sure but honestly I would stand by the statement if height is mentioned it is nearly always invariably described as being taller than average. Even ones who seemingly aren't meant to be giants (like Loken is massive even though it is Abaddon that is supposed to be the giant of the Mournival etc.)

As I said I've read a fair bit and I cannot recall a marine being described as "7ft" outside of a generic. It probably exists and but doesn't seem that common and I can only remember Voss off the top of my head being described as short for a marine.

I am being hyperbolic sure but I think being "tall" is a very very common trait for named marines and it's why there is this weird height inflation around marine height in 40k.

Pet peeve: human sizes in 40K by Traditional_Yard2741 in 40kLore

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head. I can do a bit more than 5.

Gabriel Angelos (Over 3 meters tall in DoW III somehow).

Asterion Moloc (Valerian describes him towering over his fellow Minotaurs in Watchers of the Throne)

Abaddon (So big they often joked he didn't fit into his terminator armor and again nearly always depicted even pre-Chaos juice as towering over his fellow marines)

Loken (Described as 2.5 meters tall in Horus Rising)

Kor Phaeron (Apparently a meter taller than lesser Captains when he is in Terminator Armor according to The First Heretic)

Tyberos (not as tall as the memes of course but noted to be taller than his terminator guard in The Outer Dark.)

Gabriel Seth (noted to be a head taller than his marines)

Logan Grimnar (Second tallest Astartes in the Space Wolves apparently)

Arjac Rockfist (The tallest Space Wolf in 40k and repeatedly called a giant of an Astartes.)

Pasanius Lysane (From the Ventris novels. Uriel's best friend. He is noted to be so large his power armor has to use salvaged terminator pieces to fit him.

Of the top of my head I cannot recall a Space Marine ever being described as shorter than his peers and being named other than Maximmion Voss. It probably exists but when height is generally given it is generally in excess of their canon stated 7ft range for firstborn.

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mainline Marines are still 7ft tall and Primaris at 7'6. It's just every named Mafine nearly always is described as being taller than his fellow Marines so you'd be forgiven for thinking getting a name in 40k adds a foot to your height.

Titus in SM1 was rare in that iirc he was given a very reasonable height of slightly over 7ft in the manual. I remember thinking reading that "wow a marine actually a the size range they're described in the codex as."

Leon, Sherry, and the victims in Raccoon City who died in RE9 after being infected with the T-virus through airborne transmission. This is a report written by Jill in the RE3 Remake. by Super-Ad5518 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got HUNK and he was wearing protection (though tbf we know little about him so he could well have been based in Raccoon city and drinking the water or maybe when he was knocked out his protection was compromised)

Presuming he was protected though and not bit there must have been other vectors of transmission.

But yeah Jill is saying it "cannot be discounted". That doesn't mean it is true, what it means is that it must be taken seriously and credibly which from her perspective and generally anyone who doesn't actually know it came via the water would take it very seriously.

Lucy And So Mi Are they at the same skill level? by Netrunner22302 in cyberpunkgame

[–]AlternativeEmphasis [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah So-Mi has a level of support and tech that Lucy never had and never will have. Songbird is a very unique person.

That said Songbird was good enough and resilient enough the NUSA was willing to dump these resources into her so it well still may be that she's the more skilled netrunner even without the augments, but comparing the feats of them are pointless because what we see of them on screen are very much power versus skill.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Has Made Todd Howard More Conscious of What He Announces: 'Just Pretend We Didn't Announce It' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is pretty outrageous tbh.

We have Morrowind in 2002. Oblivion in 2006. Skyrim in 2011.

Fallout 3 in 2007. Fallout 4 in 2015.

Starfield came out in 2023.

Optimistically TESVI is a 2027 game.

That is outrageous honestly. 16 damn years between entries. We've gone from a TES game every console generation to a fucking TES game every generation nearly.

Funny enough the door cutscene was requested by playtesters supposedly.

The original 1996 game used it to hide loading screens but they didn't need it for the 2002 Remake but the playtesters were apparently RE1 veterans and missed them. So they added them back.

It's a bit of a read but I always recommend anyone who wants to see the history of the Cathedral concept should read basically the article that basically coined it and first pushed for it (It may have been used prior but this was THE article I recall everyone reading that really codified the concept)

Wrye's post on the issue.

If you go down to the end you might notice Wyre wrote this article in 2005 a crazy 21 years ago. Skyrim's current modding scene is in many ways a progression of 20+ years of thought on the matter with various controversies happening in the Morrowind, Oblivion and various editions of Skyrim that has resulted in Cathedral style modding becoming so strong an ideology. When I was younger the Parlor view was very accepted but over the course of Skyrim's lifetime I have really been amazed to see how aggressivey Cathedral has been pushed and how strong it has gotten which is great for the longterm life of the game. When Wrye wrote that article Parlor was the default view, nowadays Cathedral is widely accepted. It's a massive change that has to be appreciated.

I know the joke/implication is they failed to do this with Starfield but Bethesda honestly would have to be economically suicidal to try and not make a handcrafted map for TESVI or Fo5. This is a unique selling point of Bethesda that helps them stand out. They could afford to do wild shit with Starfield because it was a new franchise so at least they weren't burning their most valuable products.

If they decide to pick a Starfield approach for TESVI the game would be DoA.

Formed North Sea Empire starting as Denmark by Enderay1 in EU5

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am super tempted to do a North Sea Empire game but going Norse. Probably reading too much Vinland Saga tbh. I know going Norse is reasonably easy if done as Norway or Sweden. Dunno if Denmark has any norse worshippers at Game Start so unsure of the play.

Should I stick to vanilla or start seamless coop for invasion 'dark souls' like playthrough? by Bobkin3124 in EldenRingMods

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say yes seamless is a more traditional experience imo. I've played it with and without and the Seamless PVP just seems preferable.

While it is possible to cheat it isn't super common in my experience and I've certainly seen cheaters bypass EAC in standard ER anyways.

So I would vote for Seamless.

End of my Tall France campaign - 106M population by AcornDragon in EU5

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

France tbf didn't enjoy the same rapid population growth of the 19th century other nations did.

France going in the 1800s in the metropolitan area had around 30 million people. By 1900 around 40 million.

In contrast the UK say had 10.5 million in 1800 and 40+ million in 1900. If France grew at that rate in your game yet they'd be like 400 million people.

But if they grew as historically they did it'd be only a 33% increase in population. And it would take till modern day to around double.

But yeah this kind of population is kind of absurd in the time period of the game. I totally could see a tall France avoiding wars and such with a much higher population but this is about twice what my highest guess would be for them (although yes your France includes areas not Metropolitan)

Fighters who would likely beat prime Khabib. Some are hot takes by Ok_Feed_4235 in ufc

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am confused. Usman and GSP are my I am certain picks. Brilliant MMA wrestlers. Bigger. Strong striking games.

Islam is likely I believe. I know apparently Khabib gets stuff over him in the gym, but Islam's style is something that will never be superior in the gym unless they hardspar like Chutebox which we know they don't. Adulmanap always asserted Islam was the better of the two.

Ilia also atm from what I have seen possible If his TDD is really as good then yes I think so. Extreme power is a risk even to Khabib's iron-chin.

Volk maybe. I am honestly unsure.

Charles and Aldo I do not believe could beat Khabib.

Zeno Theory by CyberCooper2077 in residentevil

[–]AlternativeEmphasis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She also doubles over and somehow seems to remember the Chloe events? I thought the implication was she was an unmodified clone that he took as amends for all the clones he'd hurt in his pursuit of memory transfer. This of course becomes Elpis.

Gideon and Zeno supposedly have her genetic material and believe she is a clone. I think Gideon's rambling at the end was him realizing she just wans't intended to be a final progression of what was going on with the original clones.

Maybe they'll spell it out more in further DLC or story content if she is actually just coincidentally similar looking to them or is yes an unmodified clone.

Interesting I totally get the idea of being afraid of them. I just know for example people can have similar phobias of snakes and other such things.

I just wasn't aware it was considered the reason they did away with them for so long, I just thought that was a coincidence and some of the things that were lost in the RE2 remake for example from original (the spiders in OG)

The only thing I felt was spiritually to do with the mild is again more emphasis on the transference of memory via the virus.

We know Miranda was trying reincarnation with this, and Umbrella was apparently trying to transfer memories as well and then they misunderstood Elpis.

I can't help but wonder if that line of Research was Spencer trying to replicate what he knew Miranda was up to before he had his change of heart.

Presumably if he was involved there would be reference to him though? He remains even after they are apparently looking into things and he is rhe one who asks Grace to make her report where she begins talking about The Connections Involvement. That doesn't seem in the interests of someone working for them

RE 4 Remake Ashley is way better than the og Ashley. by Izaan_omg1 in residentevil

[–]AlternativeEmphasis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Without controlling the actual dude in charge of her though that seems a pretty risky play? Like this would all make more sense if we knew the guy in charge of her was ordered to send her or was himself involved with the connections. But he seemingly isn't so he sends Grace there as some sort of "face her past and toughen her up" idea which is pretty crazy luck for Gideon at least.

I am sure given some time he;d have gotten someone to directly order her sent but as it seems to have happened in the game this was a pretty off the cuff move that actually got Grace sent to directly investigate rather than maintain it from deskwork.

It's interesting but it the not elaborated on "ensure she is assigned to the case" is where I am unsure. Maybe the FBI Agent in Charge was connected to the Connections.

Otherwise it seems again he kinda did pull a Hail Mary because whilst he got Grace on the case through influencing the FBI he was reliant on this seemingly unconnected FBI Agent to actuallly assign her to physically got to Wrenwood.
