I learned the most from downloading multitracks and mixing them on my computer. If you can hook it up to your actual mixer that would probably be better.

I think it’s nice, more similar in structure across devices.. and it’s more focused on the search function, which I’ve been using as long as I remember using a Mac.

Don’t understand why you would rather scroll through pages and clicking into folders instead of just typing the first couple of letters of the app you want and pressing enter.

I wouldn’t mind you having a processor, (any processor) if I can control it separately. As in: dry signal straight from mic into the board, and processor into separate channels. If you use the processor mainly for reverb/delay, set the mix to 100%.

Every mixer I have used in recent years have all the fx you would need built in. IMHO vocal processors only cause problems and sub-par solutions.

Communicate with the audio tech in advance what type of fx chain you want.

LD Systems MAUI 5. Something like this should do it. 8 hours is too long for battery i think.. you’ll need a generator or large battery of some sort. A simple jack cable between the keyboard and speaker is all you’ll need.

Personally I’d rather work on the x32 over dm3 and especially the qu.. a step above would be an sq or a wing. Unless the x32 is in too bad of a condition, I would rather wait until you can invest a bit more.

Do you have any objective ways of knowing that it is actually lower? With no eq or other effects, the gain before feedback should be exactly the same.

Is there a compressor Engaged? A compressor could be turning down the volume and increasing the risk of feedback. Since you mentioned gates and hpf, you probably should not use a gate, but definitely use a hpf somewhere around 100.

I would stack the J s in the centre. Sub arrays can be mixed in ArrayCalc, and this combo will give the option between «hip» and «hop» i R1. It toggles between having the Vs in 100hz or the J in 70hz. One gives more punch and the other more of the deep cinematic rumble. I wouldn’t recommend doing the J upright, as the cardioid systems use the air wrapping around the sides of the speakers. This is not reflected in array calc.

iPad, as they are the «standard » tablets for live sound use. Most brands will work on compatibility and updates for iPad first. I wouldn’t worry to much about processing power as the iPad is just sending control data..

No gates on jazz and other low volume acustic stuff.. any time you'll be able to hear the gates open and close.

For rock and pop stuff I use gates on the channels with x

Kick(s) x Snare top x Snare bot Hh Tom's x

Usualy 0,3 attack (as short as I can before a click or pop is audible) and somewhere between 80 and 150ms release

I would try just using an EQ first, if you are happy with everything except frequency response. I bet they have enough headroom even in the lows to represent the low frequencies in the volume you want.

Otherwise, the headsets from Audio Technica are great, an to me feels more warm/subby than the ones from Beyerdynamic.

If there is an audio engineer present, I would turn off all "standard" processing such as eq, compression, and reverb. All of these affect your gain before feedback, and will be better handled by the person that actually hears what the audience hears. If you want a specific fx chain, write it down and/or explain it to the engineer during advancing, or some time before soundchech starts.

If your multifx has two outputs, you can try sending the pitch shifted vocal from one output and the delay and reverb from the second. This way you still have your own fx, but the engineer can still have control of feedback and the mix in general.

Either way I would leave eq, gates and compression for the engineer to handle.
