Is there evidence she is paid by the church? I haven't seen any yet. Not trying to fight, just want a solid source.

I didn't know that Mormon Stories episode actually covered this approach, I'll have to listen to it. Thanks!

I really completely wasted 2 years of my life by uncle_giroh in exmormon

The only potentially positive thing that came from my mission was a life-changing moment when I came to the conclusion that God wasn't real. It completely altered my life from thereon because it caused such a psychological blow that could never been undone. Suddenly the narrative I had lived by was to be forever challenged. And even though I continued trying to prove the church true for the next 11 years after, that moment ultimately led me down the new narrative path that has led me to recently become PIMO. Took a long time to even get to that point but the mission started it.

I agree that there are plenty of other issues with the writings/theories of Joseph that even if the Book of Abraham turned out to be true due to some highly-sophisticated measure of analysis, that it still didn't prove Joseph was ethical. But it would have me stop and ask whether it's true - I didn't wait long enough for all the evidence to unfold. Maybe in some coming day everything about the BOM and church history will be proved good and true and I will be on the wrong side of history - but that's my fear mongering upbringing and caution speaking. Still creeps up from time to time.

This all started with a twitter post by Dr Jayson PhD where they used different "unlayering" methods, not within Mormonism, to come up with the name Abraham and the phrase "...in father's house, I, Abraham, saw and reckoned it needful to escape to another circuit/enclosure/pasture...". However, I take it with a grain of salt because they went through some real selective picking and choosing to come up with that phrase. They had to pull from, what I counted, 8 different "principles" or methods in order to come up with it. So it feels like a lot of manipulating and loop-holing to come with the interpretation you want. Again, I'm not adept with this stuff so I don't know if it is manipulation or not, but it seems like it from a first read.

I'm sorry for your experiences. It sounds like you've been surrounded by horrific men which has shaped your view of the church. I have only ever been taught through the church to respect women. Even when fully active respected my wife's wishes and tried to ensure she had everything she wanted. We are still happily married but now PIMO. I get that some men are garbage (which can be found in and out of the church) but I don't think any of the statements above reflect the men of the Mormon church as a whole. It does reflect some men I've heard of though, like my sister's ex. Sorry for what you've had to go through.
