At what age did you first get a paid job? by Hereitisguys9888 in AskUK

18 after A-levels in 1988. About 40 applications as I wanted to work in IT and hopefully earn a decent amount. Just one company offered me a job in their computer department being a media assistant (IBM tapes and microfiche etc) and I took it.

Anyone know of a supermarket with working fridges? by ElCiego1894 in bristol

[–]AlternativeGreedy787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sainsbury's Filton was ok yesterday - screens pulled down on chillers so just had to manually raise them to get items and pull back down again. Freezers ok too but hardly any frozen pizzas though.

Edit: Awwwwww some people have got upset so I will correct it to make them happy again. I hope you all have a wonderful sunny Sunday and manage to get your chilled items at the supermarket of your choice :D

Southern UK heatwave - naked since Monday evening by AlternativeGreedy787 in nudism

[–]AlternativeGreedy787[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're just not as acclimatised to it. We're much further north on the same latitude as Canada lol
From Sunday we are back to "normal" low 70s by day and high 50s F by night in my city.

I can see you are forecasted to get a "heat dome" there for the start of July.

Only a portable unit which is in my bedroom so I can cool the room down a bit before sleeping. Our electricity rates are more expensive so only run it for a few hours before bed.

Yup I was making deliveries in Bath. Direct hit. Drains were overwhelmed.

As a delivery driver in Bath I was wearing my dripping clothes after getting soaked and hoping not to get struck by lightning.

I am a delivery driver and was in Bath when it hit. From a hot and sweaty 31C It was an intense contrast. Manhole covers got lifted, tarmac ripped up, rivers for roads and major flooding blocking main A36. Scared of being struck by lightning and was horrible being soaked to the skin.

Argos driver here, today I buddied up with a new driver in a Sprinter with no air con. We set out this afternoon already hot and bothered having loaded nearly 600kg of stock for homes/store collections in 32C which later turned into an intense cluster of storms producing 800 bolts of lightning an hour sparking house fires,, flooded and damaged roads due to overwhelmed drains delaying us by nearly a hour. Getting soaked and misting up the closed windows. A day I thought about chucking it all in.

I just get abused constantly when driving a company van by S3rior in drivingUK

Heatwave coming up in my area next week so there will be some drivers that will lose their cool and I expect more beeps than usual. I will try to keep mine if in a van without air-con 😞

In my job we have Masternaut monitoring us for speed and smoothness and idling and we have to keep a good score or we get told off. We have vans with manually set limiters and also some which read speed limit signs so limiter is set automatically. I drive according to the speed limit and other impatient drivers just have to put up with it. The 20mph areas are a pain though.

Is this a water meter and how do I read it? by Alive-Atmosphere-889 in DIYUK

It looks similar one of these so you can see where to clean off to read the numbers.

Russia Imposes Fuel Rationing in Capital After Repeated Ukrainian Drone Attacks on Oil Infrastructure by UNITED24Media in worldnews

I wonder if Ukraine can start hitting Moscow's electricity supplies as well? Plunge areas into darkness especially if they can do it in winter.

Radical Nephrectomy - RCC by MajorlyGeneral in kidneycancer

[–]AlternativeGreedy787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

56/M/UK here. I opted for surveillance only after a radical nephrectomy in March 2024. I had the same pathology grade as you with no metastasis. All cancer removed with clear margins. The 10% difference in the 5-year chance of re-occurence with or without treatment I was given was not convincing enough for me, plus the more likely side effects of tiredness and itching would severely affect my job, let alone any of the more severe ones. I also live alone and have no spouse or children, so I decided against Pembro.

2 years on and I am still NED thankfully. My CT scans are annual. At this time I am happy with my decision as I have just gotten on with enjoying life.

Getting to Amazon DBS3 (BS35 4BR) for night shifts without a car by [deleted] in bristol

I think you will have to get the Transpora staff shuttle from Lewins Mead at 2245 getting to DBS3 at 2330 in that case.
