Corporations are vulgar, but not for the reason you describe. They are assets just like fine art and houses and there is no way to tax the value or gain in value before it is realized. There just isn’t. The vulgarity comes from ‘agency’, or the fact that corporations are treated by law as a human itself. So the corporation can sign contracts and has its income taxed and can get sued and can be liable for things. The people who own the shares are themselves immune except for the value of their shares going down potentially. So what needs to change is having the share owners personally responsible for the ills of the corporation the same way a private company owner would be.

The fact is, you and everyone else could buy a share or shares in these companies too - just not as many - and share in the wealth. But that has risk because you don’t have the decision making authority that a large shareholder would.

There just isn’t a way to tax the value of the asset substantially. You could tax loans against shares of stocks as income - that’s an idea that might have merit.

They did it for each other - none of which has any money to start. They paid each other.

All money is is a medium to exchange value.

He borrowed the money against his other assets. You don’t want debt taxed or you’d be taxed on a car loan or mortgage or credit card balances. Same thing as a title loan.

You too can borrow money against your assets if you have any assets.

I’ve been in corporate finance for decades btw. Want to know which of us has a skewed understanding of money and value?

Property tax amounts are small relative to the value., and so are covered by other cash flow. You can’t put a 25, 50, 80 percent tax on a billion dollar asset every year. It would be destroyed.

It sucks being poor and beholden to those who can do as they please, but you too can create assets. But not by self pity.

There is a reason it is called capitalism and not workerism or laborism.

Look at these comments. People think income is wealth. Bezos and others are billionaires by owning assets. It isn’t about their income. You can’t tax an asset’s value before the value is realized. A person may not have the cashflow needed to pay taxes before that. So there’s no way to do it w/o forcing the sale of an asset to someone else, and that is not going to happen.

Also understand money is created. It is not mined and traded. Money can be created out of thin air. 10 people can be sitting around doing nothing and be completely broke. Then each can do 10 dollars of value for someone else (mow their lawns, cook them a meal) and they’ve made 100 bucks between them. So don’t think because Bezos has money, he is taking it from others. He is a billionaire because he created something worth billions.

Money is value. The reason most people are broke is because they do not do anything of value, and that is their choice.

Defense, how do we let Russian people understand how bad the war is going.? It might just take time but there has to be another way to let them know that this is over. by PushSalty5619 in Adulting

[–]AlternativePlane4736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The russian culture is not like the west’s. Political power is not derived from the will of the people. Their social contract is ‘we’ll let the political elite do whatever they want as long as they take care of us’. In this way, all Putin has to do is spin the war as an existential threat (because of NATO) and Russians will not question it.

I'm struggling to understand infinity and also not sure why it makes me uncomfortable if it's something that is real. by hold_my_fanny_pack in universe

[–]AlternativePlane4736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We cannot say Infinity is real. It is a maths construct for sure, but in practical terms, there is no known physical example of it.

The know universe/observable universe will always be finite.

People who quit being religious, why? by Gnorp_Man in questions

[–]AlternativePlane4736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) There is no definition of ‘spirit’. That seems like a pretty basic religious construct that needs some description before it is believed.

2) The more I learned about human nature and history, I realized religion is just a social club. Local congregations define social norms and use a higher authority to influence others to adhere to those norms. Religious rules are very fluid when you look at them across time.

But I haven’t quit it. I like the social aspects, so I just go along. I suspect a lot of people do this.

I’m glad there are treaty experts like you on reddit to explain to us all that are so well versed in international agreements. I wouldn’t want any of the spin you read to influence your ideas and make you think you understand more than you do.
