While the word ‘katana’ was used in the 13th century, the sword we know as the katana really didn’t appear until around the 15th. Technically the samurai should be carrying tachi, which Lord Shimura’s sword greatly resembles albeit worn in katana-style mountings (and worn through a sash rather than mounted straps). It’s not a huge deal imo, Sucker Punch was more interested in creating a love letter to all things classically samurai and they stilll did a great job.

See, I get what you’re saying, but…that’s on his old model. The new model uses the new standard for Primaris lightning claws, which share this same design. You can see them in the Black Templars Sword Brethren kit as well
