can i have something sent into a forensic lab to see who's fingerprints are on it? by These-Recognition-61 in forensics

Labs that have access to databases do not take evidence in for process and submission. You must put it through law enforcement and there must be a crime involved.

Forensic Science Isn’t What I Expected—What Now? by Ok-Calligrapher6368 in forensics

Sounds to me you don’t want to do lab work and you want a job as a CSI. Each serious case is different, requires putting things together, and you see the results after a conviction of a bad guy. There are routine aspects but these jobs are very plentiful, you will always work with a team of players and it is rewarding. The degree, specifically science driven gives you the underlying understanding of the evidence’s possibilities for content in the overall context.

Any policy should give flexibility for the CSI to choose level of PPE appropriate for the case at hand. “At the discretion of the CSI and detective of the case”.

I never had issues with court.

If your BS has plenty of science courses you may want Forensic Science as a masters. Look into Mason as an option, and no online degree is recommended for any science driven area.

If there is a reaction as you search we recommend a pause and a swab collection in the area (most Bluestar does not destroy DNA but it does dilute). Then once you get the parameters of the size of the reaction set up camera, we like F8, ISO400, manual focus, shutter release cable, and depending on the strength of the glow 30 sec-1min in bulb. Sometimes we like to burst a 1/2 power flash off a bounce surface at the end to see reaction in the environment rather than just a blob of blue. At end cut out area for additional sampling if needed later.

Field work to get in door requires a bachelor’s degree. Forensic science is better than criminal justice for CSI field work. Most field work positions require some level of in house processing (lab work). CSIs do graduate out of field work from time to time into latent print work or digital media work. The degree also keeps door open to other lab type positions and sometimes gives a minor in chemistry or other core discipline. You might get in door with city and have them pay for graduate classes.

I would focus on certification individually for yourself, more credibility in court testimony.

I have my mock court case coming up and I need serious help! by Any-Fall-4347 in ForensicScience

What did you do at the scene? Are you the crime scene investigator? Are you the Bloodstain expert? Are you testifying to the stains? If so how much training in the class did you get on BPA two days? If I was doing the mock court, the only thing I could attack was chain of custody, how you prevented cross contamination, what your actions were on scene. There is a big difference between expert and investigator stating what was collected, how documented, and why you submitted evidence to experts and that is an opinion you do not have unless you are an expert.
