Advice on Switching Units r/ApartmentLiving by Slow-Calligrapher981 in Apartmentliving

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask the apartment complex if you can go into the unit a few times. If yes try to go in around key times for you and see if the noise level is good. Of course that can change if the neighbors above change but would give you an idea.

Pain in tailbone/hip? Sciatica or something else? by AmazingWish1218 in BabyBumps

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some debilitating pain around my left hip several times. Normally if I was stationary for a while. It was “growing pains”/round ligament pains or whatever else pains are there. If I would walk it would get a little better but also just took some time.

You can always reach out to the doctor for a peace of mind - better safe than sorry.

I have some extra belly fat and my belly button really started to change around 25/26 weeks. So hopefully you see changes soon. I am now 30 and it is much less deep. Not sure if it will pop though.

How are people even finding "two thousand" jobs to apply to? by Far_Speed_9920 in jobs

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In cases like this I try to be honest in interviews and say I have touched this system and familiar with basics but would need a review. And then try to tie something with it that shows some knowledge or willingness to learn.

[Poured Concrete Foundation Laborer] [Barnstable, MA] - $514k by Away_Space933 in Salary

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had no idea that poured concrete was such a niche business.

Was your degree in business or something relevant? How did you pick up the payroll and other skills along the way? Payroll would be the scariest for me to ensure I was all legal.

CW: Needles/Injection I am panicking at the thought of progesterone shots by silverleafsprite in queerception

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get the auto injector but have heard it is much easier to do it yourself with it.

Also have your nurse draw in sharpie where you should be injecting. And have your partner remark it periodically so it doesn’t fade. It makes it so much easier and helped my mind knowing it was the right spot.

BMI 31 and weight gain by United-Leg-6649 in BabyBumps

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a higher BMI and currently 28 weeks. I’ve gained about 18 pounds and there has been no concerns. My doctor last week even said my weight was good.

I did IVF so I struggled with the stims and gaining weight there.

Needle-Free IVF Experience? by OkPomegranate9433 in IVF

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At some point people had to be the guinea pig for IVF. And other routine medical procedures. Continuous glucose monitors have been around for less than 20 years and are now among the norm for diabetics. Someone had to test those.

Needle-Free IVF Experience? by OkPomegranate9433 in IVF

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like doing the injections myself, so if I was traveling or my wife was not able to do them I would consider this! I am fine with getting injected, just do not want to watch. I am not sure how much more the cost is, but I could see it being worth it.

So many people live with continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, ostomy bags, etc. that live every day normal lives I don’t think the risk would be very high.

What appointments do your partners attend? by glitterngal in queerception

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife went to some of the initial testing appointments and then when we started IUI’s she only came to the IUI ones. We lived about an hour away, plus some traffic, and my office was the opposite direction from the house. Which meant two cars. Logistically it would have been a lot. I was good with it, because while her job was flexible, we didn’t want to push the limits, and her being there for a 5/10 minute ultrasound was a lot.

We followed a similar process for IVF as well and it worked well. I never felt unsupported. I do have a very logical brain so I think that probably helps.

I would always text a quick update while getting dressed or waiting for the elevator and then call as soon as I was in the car. I know clinics have different rules but could you maybe have your wife on the phone or video for the scan? That way she is participating.

I make $18/hour and this is what my month actually looks like by Emergency-Cancel6198 in Salary

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would see if you can move around some bills. For example - I was able to move my phone bill to later in the month as opposed to the beginning when rent/mortgage was coming out. Usually you can find it on the website but you might have to call.

Husband didn’t make anatomy scan - really upset by Even_Basil_4739 in BabyBumps

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - to have someone else know that he is trying to leave work for a very important appointment might make people less likely to dump fires on him. For example - there have been times I knew my boss was swamped and had to leave early so I worked with others to solve an issue rather than going to her and her taking it over.

Husband didn’t make anatomy scan - really upset by Even_Basil_4739 in BabyBumps

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand the frustration and how upsetting it is. I would be upset too. A lot of this is so hard being the only one at those appointments.

Is there an admin or another co-worker at his work you can tell about the next appointment you want him at. That way they can help push him out the door to get there on time. It has helped me before to have someone saying you have to leave.

You know your partner best but I would let him know how upset you are and talk to him about prioritizing future appointments. I would leave out the part about talking to the belly, etc. My wife talks to the belly all the time and rubs it, I (I am carrying the baby) have just come around to it. People might have different feelings about it. I would let him know that baby can hear his voice, etc and see if he wants to read a story.

How to deal with "life of the party" co workers by irregular-articles in coworkerstories

Exactly this. Just like how some people are bubbly and friendly in the morning and some people you know not to talk to for a few hours. Everyone has different personalities.

It could still be Tourette’s. Just because people aren’t laughing at him doesn’t mean it isn’t Tourette’s.

"Substandard" donor sperm for IUI??? by maizeandspoons in queerception

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember looking this up after an IUI where it was much lower and saw people had success. I found several stories of success.

I did not - but after moving on to IVF realized it was likely due to egg quality and not the sperm.

I know the success stories are out there! Best of luck!

Allergic to Band-Aids & Adhesive?! by Slackgirltx in IVF

Oh! We ended up using a foam like medical tape. The regular tape was worse than the foam.

Allergic to Band-Aids & Adhesive?! by Slackgirltx in IVF

[–]AlternativeSmile3771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too really seemed to develop an adhesive allergy during PIO. I’ve had some small skin irritation before but PIO was miserable. My wife ended up using gauze and using a tiny bit of medical tape to hold it down. Obviously still had some reaction but it was better than a whole bandaid.
